This has been going in my mind as of lately.

An acquaintance usually sends me anime memes, and in many of them pictures of female characters appear with the subtitle: Waifus of the season.

Like, I don't know. Referring to a female character as waifu only seems, besides creepy, undermining them. That their only qualities are being cute and pleasing for men to enjoy. I have also noticed this term is usually referred to female characters that are obedient and do whatever the male character wants. This crossed my mind again when reading commentaries about the recent Spy x Family episode; many comments were saying that Yor (one of the female main characters) is waifu material. Everytime I read something like that, it makes me cringe.

I don't know. Am I crazy and overthinking this? At least we can agree that the term itself is cringe. Especially when adults use it unironically.

To me it really matters what the sphere of influence is - and if you are already a public figure or not. If you are a public figure posting something under a pseudonym (say, Mike Pence posting “I hate the Jews” under the screen name LibCucks69) then by all means unmask that account and hold them accountable.

If the person is already a “nobody” (and by that I mean someone whose personal information isn’t in the public purview) - for instance, I don’t know who the fuck Dream actually is, so it doesn’t make sense for me to want to “unmask” Dream. Just hold “Dream” accountable by not giving them viewership.  If Dream, who’s name I will make up, is John Smith, and John Smith is the front facing figure of a company or something, then sure, connect the dots.

EDIT: I’ll add a caveat. While I dislike the whole “internet detective” thing since it is not reliable 100% of the time, if, say, someone did shit and someone found out they were an elementary school teacher, then yeah…maybe don’t plaster it everywhere (I suppose it would depend on the offense) but certainly alert the school.

Then you have Matt come in and derail the shit out of that thread. After agreeing that we shouldn’t get the thread locked again via derail, he proceeds to derail immediately after in his little tiff with athesyn. B-Dubs then comes in soon after with a thread lock, when a threadban or a staff post would have sufficed.

All this type of behaviour does is ostracise Muslims. You can get away with saying so much shit about us, and when the tables are turned we are not treated equally, whether it’s on Facebook or Resetera.
