My high level understanding was they were both abusive to each other, but people initially believed Heard when she came forward because of the gender difference.

The 2nd option was insulting, dismissive shit. Polls with such options are not allowed, since they allow people to essentially break the rules anonymously by hiding behind a poll option.

This trial was incredibly public and incredibly emotional for a lot of people for a lot of reasons. For men who have been victims of abuse by women partners, it's a moment where they feel like their trauma was taken seriously and not just laughed off. For women who have been victims of abuse, it's been a moment where they, at times, have had the legitimate worry that bad faith actors have been trying to roll back the hard won victories of the MeToo movement. At the end of the day though, this is about two people who were in a toxic relationship that resulted in abuse. For all the evidence brought forward, while we might guess at the truth, we'll never know for sure what went on behind closed doors.

In that frame of mind, we'll ask anyone posting in this thread to abide by a series of guidelines, which should be simple enough to follow:

1) Anyone being dismissive toward any of the abuse suffered will get banned.

2) Anyone posting GIFs or any random Tweets from Twitter randos will be permanently threadbanned, you will not be allowed back in under any circumstances. If you want to post news, use legitimate sources of information. Don't use your favorite Twitter follow, we don't care how smart you think they are.

3) Anyone going wild and engaging in toxic behavior, as defined by moderation staff, will be threadbanned from discussion in this thread.

There are a lot of different groups with a lot of different concerns as a result of this trial and they all deserve space to be discussed. It does seem like it is getting increasingly difficult to post opinions here if you show any degree of variance from the status quo. I've seen people get destroyed over questions they asked to educate themselves on things. Hell, I was attacked for mentioning I served in the military.

I don't know it's true it's "faster" and at the end of the day "the news" is just a different kind of mediator than Twitter personalities and I'm sure most people will often follow one or the other, not both, in random subject X or Z. Man when I look at this case the Jussie Smollett case where both tried to use social justice movements to benefit their own careers, I see that pretty much everyone turned on Smollett damn near instantaneously including the media that reported on him favorably before the truth started coming out.

And I say this as someone who thinks the jury handed down a totally appropriate ruling. It's all just fun and games for 99% of people and this board is no exception, despite the pretension of sanctimony.
