Bigots of all stripes never actually just want to stop at "protecting children" or "separate but equal." If you're not a straight white cis dude, plenty of folks out there are gunning for your outright extermination. It's up to the people who know better to unite and mount a defense, even if you're not the one in the crosshairs that day, because there's always tomorrow that they will target you.
thing is, even if the science backs up the idea that everyone who says they are trans was born that way and can't help the dysphoria they feel, medically transitioning in various ways IS a decision
and if studies demonstrate that a person's quality of life/mental state goes down post-transition, or if there is reason to call into question studies on the subject, then there might be reason to call into question the whole process
it's not transphobic to want trans people to lead the best most fulfilling life possible, and advocate for decisions that could aid in this
If "being trans" is done because of gender dysphoria, which we're told is horrific neverending suffering that cannot be cured then there should be no trans people in a hypothetical utopia where Lucio has overthrown white supremacy, capitalism and colonialism and thus all suffering disappears.
If being trans is simply a choice that some people want then in all worlds there's no need for gatekeeping but also we should not claim that experimental cosmetic procedures are essential medical treatments. Just let people get what they want like any other procedures.
They confuse people accepting the first claim and wanting to find a way to end the claimed suffering as a desire for violent "extermination" of trans people. They also confuse people accepting either claim but questioning how relevant the proposed "treatments" (or experimental procedures) are also as a desire for violent "extermination" of trans people. If you go on Twitter it's very easy to find trans people (like the "famous" Jim Sterling or Stacy Cay) saying that anyone who objects to paying for trans peoples "treatments" on any grounds is actual literal genocide, and then the replies are filled with others agreeing saying they want to die now, others crying about how their life could be violently ended at any moment and they're scared, and others encouraging their "sisters" to arm up and start shooting. This kind of rhetoric is all over public online trans communities along with a whole host of other manipulative methods that target vulnerable people.
I object on the grounds that I want anyone with mental illness, like myself or anyone else, to be treated so they can escape it. Not be affirmed and encouraged into an endless cycle of forever medicalization with a constant failure state. That would be properly understood as a failure for any other mental illness but in this case it's all handwaved for instead things like encouraging suicide baiting, cult like demands to cut off support systems if they aren't constantly affirming of everything, and pushing illogic and pseudoscience that fails on its own grounds. This very concern of wanting what's best for people is dismissed as nothing but hatred and genocidal fetish simply because it is concerned about what's best for people rather than simply having everyone constantly and permanently affirming whatever someone thinks or is told they should want all by people who have no interest in ever finding a reason to even question the premise that this never ending affirmation is best practice.
