How is it any different from turning criminals into heroes?
If the movie is good I don't see the issue. The problem with these movies as of late though is that unlike Gladiator they often aren't.
I mean, you probably wouldn't make a movie with Jeffrey Dahmer as the hero and protagonist fighting for gay rights.
There's nothing wrong with premise of the movie, of course. I enjoy a good female-led action flick as much as the next guy, but I'm sure they could have found a better inspiration. Or just make everything up and drop the "based on true events" angle.
I dunno, it's pretty fun when they make movies like The Wolf of Wall Street and Scarface that are meant to show: "Don't be like this" and everyone is like: "SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND MARICON!!" or "Wow, I should invest in stonks"
It would not surprise me in the least if the Wolf of Wall Street is responsible for some of the crypto bro culture. Much as the first Top Gun movie was a navy pilot recruiting tool.
This is also why I don't very much believe in the cultural significance of say Black Panther. Because I haven't really seen any group adapt or reference it in such a way.
Following the movie there haven't been any 'Black Panthers' keeping their neighbourhoods safe or minorities applying for law enforcement jobs or something like that.
