I'll be overly fair on this, I think saying "I've made AI art" implies some level of actual time investment

 

playing with dall-e mini is one thing, that's a novelty and doesn't produce usable results

everything else is paid like midjourney or takes a little knowledge and a modern video card, and even then it's not just typing one thing once and sitting back with a smug face


it can take dozens or hundreds of tries to get exactly what you're looking for, involving changing the prompt, the order of words, redoing the same prompt with a new seed, going to reddit or discord to look up tips on how to get the output you want, etc

it's like saying "yeah I'm a level designer" and all you've done is play Little Big Planet, it's possible to toss around some random objects and call it a day, or spend dozens of hours crafting a specific vision

So gamergate is so horrible, vicious and pervasive that it survived until 2022 where it wanted to kill the speaker of the house but it also would have crumbled if only the ESA had not waited 2 months to say that harassment is bad. Makes total sense

Actually, HaughtyFrank's post got me to read the article, wherein I found this among the list of horribles caused by Gamergate:

We've seen Nintendo fire a woman at the behest of harassers who believed she had been responsible for localization decisions like eliminating the option for players to alter a character's breast size.

We've seen Riot fire two employees because they were not sufficiently polite in responding to people angry that Riot would dare hold a PAX West panel just for women and non-binary people. (ArenaNet did a very similar thing.)

Is it any wonder that the industry's response to abuse and misogyny in its communities would be lacking when this is how it treats abuse and misogyny within its own ranks?

The Riot and ArenaNet examples are people who attacked and insulted members of those games communities directly, which seems to imply he thinks companies should not fire employees who insult customers? (The ArenaNet example was an employee who was known for doing this before and her attacks that got her were fired were motivated by someone politely disagreeing with her on dialogue design in RPGs.)

The Nintendo example is, of course, Alison Rapp. (Someone whose actions since have I think earned her the chance to come back public if she wanted to.)

What the hell are you even talking about? You can still hope for something and be disappointed it doesn’t happen even if the likelihood of it happening was low to begin with. Like it’s very highly expected at this point that the GOP will take the House in the upcoming US midterm elections and I 100% expect it to happen, but I’m still going to be disappointed when it happens because I hoped it wouldnt and am disappointed in the general event of it happening.
