Well to begin with, the OP actually made suggestions (different hair, giving him severe facial scars, etc). You don't have to agree with them but it's a start.
They could have also created an original character render not based on a real person, thereby being free to create any kind of character that isn't a Hollywood white dude.
But, if we have to insist on "it's based on a real person!!!" thing... they could have also picked an actor who isn't a white dude.
But if they just really really REALLY liked Josh Duhamel and really wanted his face in the game... they could have made him a gay man, since those are severely underrepresented as video game protagonists (I cannot think of a single gay male dedicated protagonist in AAA gaming right now, and no, bi options for character creation/choices don't count).
Morrigan going down a checklist, oh my, can you just feel the creative spirits oozing from this?
Wow facial scars. How original. And had they made him gay, then they would whine that a straight guy is playing a gay character. Also, once again, what about him being gay would contribute to the story they told in this game? It’s a game that immediately drops you into a tense situation and doesn’t let up. Would Jacob take the time to flirt with one of the other guy characters he interacts with? Probably not, so how would anyone even know he’s gay?
Please Era, despite being populated by 99% 40+ year old straight white dudes, drop the facade completely and just say you hate white dudes.
This argument is so stupid. Without any context, story, or background, a protagonist is no deeper that a cardboard cutout. It takes the plot, actions, and dialogue to flesh out a character. A black/female/disabled character is no more interesting than a white male UNTIL context is applied, FFS.
"Why can't they have have a gay protagonist?!" Well, douchebag, now you've added your own context where there was nothing before. A white male can BE fucking gay (or fucking gays *shrug*)!
"Why can't they have a neurodivergent?!" Goddammit, large swathes of that lily white NIMBY board are self-diagnosed neurodivergent! How does being white exclude that?
Bitching about the character being black is only a literal palette swap until background/story/context is applied. NepNep and morons like her are adding their own headcanon that if a character is black, they suddenly have all this other context coming with them. Who says? The writers? Because pretty sure THEY are the ones whom determine how deep, creative, or interesting a protagonist will be.
Who knew in NepNep's mind, race warring is akin to console warring, which is what this argument is effectively about.
