Good for Gwen Stefani. As a frequently "culturally appropriated" minority, I find her 90s/early 2000s-style attitude endearing, positive for ethnic relations, and far superior to the mild cultural segregation pushed for in recent years.

Telling white people to respect minorities and foreign cultures is segregation?

No. But I think if a small group that's unrepresentative of the whole can discourage behaviour they don't like in the name of "respect", despite others in that same group thinking it's completely respectful, you'll end up with de facto segregation. I personally noticed a big bump in my ancestral culture being represented up until the cultural appropriation discourse became popular, and then a subsequent chilling. It sucks, makes my life worse, and is hopefully reversing.

I'm a bit confused by this and will need some clarification. If you don't mind me asking, which ethnic minority group do you belong to that's been "appropriated" by affluent white celebrities that you feel had a positive, beneficial impact on your life? And how has it been a benefit specifically to you?

My simple answer is that the more exposure people have to my culture, the more they appreciate it, and the more accepting they are of it (and my understanding is that this has been backed up my research that looks into differences between the attitudes of immigrant-heavy city dwellers vs rural areas). When I was a kid, for example, people would mock my food, my music, and occasionally my clothes. That sort of thing eventually stopped happening for a while. It hasn't started happening again fortunately, but I've noticed a new hesitation to engage with and discuss my culture that I find disheartening and concerning. Are my kids going to have to face the lack of understanding I did? Are they going to be considered alien and inscrutable because of the gap between them and the dominant population?

A 23-year-old individual in Toronto, Canada, has been hard at work "removing" J.K. Rowling's name from used "Harry Potter" books and replacing not just the book covers with his own custom covers — but removing her name from the copyright pages and titles pages as well, according to SWNS reporting.

The individual has completed at least 30 newly "re-bound books" — offering them for sale in their newly bound form.

Artist Laur Flom, who runs a website in Canada, apparently started the project to "help out" any "Harry Potter" fans who find they have ethical issues with the author while reading her bestselling books.

Flom began the work a year ago, saying his motivation was the allegations of transphobia that were made against the British author, according to SWNS.

Flom said that "the purpose of this project is to create a safe space for fans to find comfort in the books and critically engage with J.K Rowling's work."

Each book apparently takes around 12 hours for Flom to re-bind — not including the time it takes for him to package the books and send them off to buyers.

Flom reportedly sells each newly bound book for about $170. For a set of seven, he charges roughly $1,200.

What's weird in that TMZ article is that the allegations that brought this out as a news story isn't being denied, he admitted to it earlier. His lawyer is just adding a blemish that she asked for money to keep quiet and he didn't pay her. This doesn't work to attack credibility because even Andrew didn't deny it when he spoke to Ethan.

So what if she asked for money? Wanted fortune from his fame? Even if this is true, this doesn't change anything. We don't need to get into hypotheticals of extorsion on one hand or coming clean on the other to paint either party in any different sort of light. This has nothing on the fact he was accused of something, and admitted it to a friend who then relayed it out there. The problem there is working on that problem, not muddying the waters.

For one part, you are right that this doesn’t change the fact that he is a creep…

But it made clear that there was monetary intent behind all, and she actually wanted to gain something by going public, something you guys say never happens with victims of abuse (even if there was big ass case of this last year). It muddles the waters because SHE ASKED FOR OTHERS TO SHARE THEIR STORIES, claiming altruistic intentions and she DIDNT BENEFIT from it.

I mean, is confirmed that he has felony charges that he has challenged  since 2020, and he just went to a pre trial hearing. That part is not a rumor.

We just don’t know the actual details of the case to form a real opinion about it. We don’t even know who the victim is. At this point is just hate because they dislike the guy, his show or his fans.

Yeah. Hopefully some of the big corps realize that there is a sizable black VTuber community in the indie space and there are plenty pros to diversifying. I know a handful of JP bros tend to be biased against 'darker skinned' avatars by default but that can change with the right VTuber and the proper push.
