I guarantee you it won’t even be half as active. You’ve gotta be pretty dense to not see that. A large part of the appeal was that it was a public thread. You’re both incompetent and have effectively kneecapped the most active thread in all of Bire.

Most people here hate that thread and want it gone.  I'm OK with keeping it.  You also might want to read Rumbler's first post where he says he's just trying this out to see what happens.  Maybe we end up moving it back.  Or maybe we don't.  Or maybe we make it so it's in its own subforum that isn't hidden.  IT'S CRAZY!  :o

Right, so if none of this came from discord, why was it the discord members started posting again a couple days before banhammer gate?

Why did Shosta straight away go gloating in the poli thread?

What the fuck? Like cool, you want to ban people it's your forum and your rules, but it's very off that magically at the same time discord members start piping up again.

I have no issues with discord members, but they've been AWOL for the best part of a year, then suddenly return to shit on people? Very cool guys. So mature.

Also I have respect for Bork, I dm'd him about the shit thread being cancelled and said it should at least have a place here as they don't want multiple threads about "Some dumb Reee poster" and it at least got moved.

What I don't understand is why Rumbler made such sweeping decisions to just flat out ban posters, when you've got HIMU posting all sorts of shit and gets slaps on the wrist.

It would be nice if those that want the shitbin thread gone could explain why they want that, and what it was about a single thread that they didn't have to enter that fucked them up so much.

I don't know if 'arrogance' is the right word, but I've never felt that I have the right to tell others to stop talking about things, just because I personally don't want them to talk about things, or want them to talk about things in a certain way prescribed by myself.

I do get that some things said in there were a bit sketchy if you wanted to pretend that everyone's perfect, but egregiously offensive statements seemed to get clipped by others in the thread naturally.

Kidding aside, people from the Discord are looking at this forum all the time.  One or two are under different user names, some have their statuses online set to hidden, and others come on when you're not, Ghoul- most of us don't live where you are.

I think it's that a lot of people find it overwhelmingly negative, dislike "gossiping" about people on another forum, or just think it's flat-out stupid.  But there is no mistaking that the thread's existence has driven people away from this board.

That would imply that I sleep, I don't know what that is :D. Again I don't have issues with discord people, I do however have issues with Shosta being a little bitch and gloating over a ban.

Anyway, I'm bored of this chat now. I'll fuck off back to the shit thread.

Here's my problem though: it's one thread on a message board. I'm not buying the negativity / stupidity because you simply don't need to click on that thread. If you're consuming that content, it's entirely on you.

Maybe the thread has driven people away from the board. I'd suggest that those people would've probably flapped their way out of the door if they read opinions they didn't like in threads they did approve of. If I were being a dick, I'd say 'fuck 'em'. If I were being charitable, I'd say that not everything is meant for everyone, so having to 'leave' a board is perfectly natural and not something that requires the board to change, when a user has already made the relevant change themselves.

The other thing I would say is that people on the 'very' left of the spectrum don't seem to appreciate that some people can still be resoundingly left whilst happily slaughtering sacred cows. There's an assumption that if you point to a subset of a demographic acting like cunts, you must be taking shots at the entire demographic. The old 'agree with me or you're alt-right' nonsense. That logic is wrong, simplistic, and should not be encouraged.

Ultimately, this isn't my community. These aren't my rules to uphold or my values to dictate. You cats do what you feel is best and let the chips fall where they may. I just hope that the 'winners' of this whole affair are considerably more valuable and gracious than that cat that ran straight into US politics to shitpost. Funnily enough, it's posters like that which have always made me feel unwelcome when I left the shitbin.

It’s kind of like when we had a few kiwi farmers shitting up the shit thread, people threatened to leave if they weren’t removed.  They were removed (rightfully so as they were just generally racist and homophobic), and the people threatening to leave did so anyway.  Those people who left because of the shitbin most likely aren’t coming back.  They moved on and found new places to chill.  Removing the shitbin isn’t going to magically transform this place into a utopia where everyone gets along and only posts fantastic content that the whole forum agrees with.

it's also possible that removing the thread would drive people away from the board too, but I know the resounding response would be "good, we don't like those people anyway"

I'll just say as someone who just comes here to shit on Ree, I am disappoint.

I was under the impression that this community as a whole was one that didn't get caught in its feelings about any particular person or thing, and that moderation reflected that, which was the appeal for me. Only today I come here to find Reset behavior.

I asked to put the thread back. I still dont fully understand the reasoning but if part of it was "people think its poo poo and dont want to post" then those people were never going to magically come back or suddenly think differently.

I am also going to lower / reverse the bans given. Slightly

If people want to come back and be dumbasses, then they get dealt with like dumbasses, like the people before them did

I do - there's a screenshot from the discord where it clearly states what they wanted to achieve. They wanted to disappear a group of posters on the bore. The way they wanted to do this was by removing the 'most problematic' people and then the others they don't like, they hoped to see just disappear through attrition after they killed the other forums thread. It's literally written in the screenshot in black and white, like a bad bond villain explaining his master plan.

P.S.  SmokeyDave is a treasure.  I don’t think I’ve ever read a post of his that I didn’t either agree with or get a laugh out of. Just do everything he says.

Post the evidence Kurt you coward!

It's not mine to post. Anyone with access to that Discord can scroll back up and see what was said no doubt. (it's not like it was some massive secret - it was all talked about quite openly in a semi-public discord server).

Turns out everyone saying “Discord is killing forums” was right, just not in the intended manner of that statement.  REE, GAF, OA, and now The Bire. So much drama, splintering, “leaving”, and schoolgirl gossip behind the scenes, largely by grown men in their 30s and 40s.

Benji-kun save us :existential

How is OA btw?
