Since this thread has turned into a "Bitch about GAF" thread, I'd like to add in my complaints:

- Political threads are no longer worth visiting.  There are pretty much two camps: the insane for Obama crew and the anti-American crew.  I support Obama and I hardly think the US is perfect but every political thread inevitably gets hijacked by these two camps.  I know how those threads will turn out before I even click on the thread itself.

- Religion threads are no longer worth visiting.  The atheists at GAF (I am atheist myself) have whipped up their frenzy to fever pitch and blindly attack anything and everything that might be considered religious.  Putting radical Christians in their place is fun, yes, but the collective hair trigger tempers of the GAF collective is baffling.  Maybe a priest was molesting them while they were typing up angry rants.

- Does saying "wow..." as a response mean anything?  It is like the short bus of rebuttals.

- Every major release is now considered "Game of the Forever."  Until the next month's release.

- Far too much Denis Dyack worship.

- Sony shills and fanboys have clogged up most threads.  They are annoying as fuck but I still prefer them over the Nintendo shills and fanboys.  Still, most console wars related threads are filled with extreme pro Sony views where many people believe X360 sales are going to grind to a total halt any time now.

I agree with most of your points, although I find the intense and irrational Denis hatred more annoying that the few worshippers.  I also find Sony fanboys a worse experience than the Nintendo ones.  The annoying Nintendo fanboys are usually kind of "doe-eyed" annoying whereas the Sony fanboys are usually "vicious" annoying.  It's a more negative experience with the Sony ones, the Nintendo ones are more a roll-your-eyes experience.

And my god, the fanboys that come into some of the multi-console games and compare them to their exclusive games even if the comparison is distinguished mentally-challenged (eg DiRT/Forza 2, GRID/GT5 and Assassin's Creed/Uncharted).  They shit me off more than anyone because I see multiconsole games as a great opportunity for Sony and Xbox gamers to come together once in a while and discuss something they both love.

Well, I don't recall seeing many good alternatives, but the original design really felt critically dull, and far too vague yet at the same time oddly controlled. I know m0dus is a fairly talented guy, but that theme was just too sterile. It sort of reminded me of my own designs in the mid-90s. And I can't say it felt very "NeoGAF" anyway. Maybe it reflected the inflated group-ego of NeoGAFers, and their own perception of the place, but an honest representation? Good grief no. I also don't get why Evilore felt the need to repeat that it's not a democracy. I mean, why couldn't it be, at least in regards to design? It could become hard to reach a consensus, but I don't see why it couldn't at least be tested.

It was in some thread where some gaming journalist (lol) said that GAF was like the Tatooine cantina.  I said something along the lines of saying I was Han Solo, and referenced thow whole "Hans shot first" thing.  But apparently sporsk beat me to the punch and thus, a tag was born.

It was really distinguished mentally-challenged though, considering I agreed with the gaming journalist on that one.

True.  Low-contrast "techie" designs with 45-degree angles and random 3d gibberish backgrounds are completely played-out (where's the super-tiny unintelligible text whose only purpose is to block-out space?).  Nowadays it's all about big rounded rectangles, drop shadows, simple colors, enormous icons, and iphone interface ripoffs.

Actually, the design is still evolving.  The last versions I saw I actually liked.  It looks like the late 90s TECHNO SILVER LOOK has been downplayed.

Hmm. Well, that's good to hear. From reading the thread for a few pages, I got the feeling that Evilore wasn't too keen on listening to the general opinion. Then again, the whole thread got flooded with horribly amateurish concepts from, presumably, first year art students and happy hobbyists posing as professionals.
