It's hard to shake off a bad reputation; many people won't acknowledge that American automakers have substantially improved the quality of their products.

And celebrating the downfall of these companies doesn't make sense. Some of the reasons offered to explain this celebration are silly.

Yeah, they killed off the electric car, a vehicle that lacks power, range, and an attractive price. A vehicle not powered by sunshine and lollipops, but coal fired power plants. With low oil prices throughout the nineties, there was no reason to try to develop these cars.

I participated in that thread.  I just thought that they had no long term strategy.  When international car manufacturers were moving to high efficiency vehicles, a lot of the American firms kept making gas guzzlers.  While I'm glad automakers are realizing this now, they should have done it a lot sooner.

Chevy Cobalt and Malibu get best mileage in their classes, so does the Tahoe on that end of the spectrum. Saturn had their entire lineup overhauled in the last year and a half with not a single SUV. Their new large crossovers get best mileage in class and for 2009 get direct injection for 20 more horsepower AND even better fuel economy.

Ford is rolling out EcoBoost motors across their entire lineup next year

Both companies have a number of hybrids and even more on the way. GM has hydrogen fuel cell vehicles on the roads and the most advanced existing full electric for 2010 model year.

That's not even my problem with the thread.  Ignorance and bias is my problem.  People are celebrating downfalls of companies because it suits their little circle jerk and they act like it's some great thing.  Then they sit there and throw out tons of unqualified information and dodge legitimate questions.  I can also probably understand why anyone with an actually balanced view stays out of that shit.  That'd be a dogpile from hell

My point was that people bought these vehicle not caring that they only got 15 mpg since gas was less than half of what it is today. Now instead of a full tank costing $30-$40, they are now stuck with paying $80-$100 only half way through paying off the loan for these vehicles.

Not to defend the GAFaction, but the update does contain some overdue features, as well as a few nice bonus features. And with GAF doing the whole avatar movement shit for anything, I think this fits right in. The forum has become a sort of haven for wacked out LOL group behavior.

I don't really know what the hell a cracked little git is, but all I really know about crushed was that he really wanted to post on gaf, then he  eventually was accepted and some people liked his shtick and some didn't, then there was bad blood between him and the mods or something, and he was banned.  Now he is here and he seems to dislike gaf despite reading it often.  He seems like a cool guy posting here, I don't see the big problem people had with him.
