My dad had sent me this extremely salty popcorn and I'd been eating the hell out of this bag of m&m's, but none of it seemed to really be effecting me negatively in any way. So anyway, Joker comes on screen for the second time with the "Why so serious" and I'm like :O. Its not that the Joker scares me in any way shape or form or anything in the movie so far had been over my limit. I've watched far worse in theaters from Hostile, to Saw 3, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and etc and much much worse films on my actual set at home. But I was beginning to feel quite faint. Its a feeling I've never really experienced. My heart started to just quicken maddeningly within my chest. All jokes aside, the Joker almost certainly wasn't helping things with his maniacal performance.

I excused myself to go to the bathroom and just wiped my face off with some water and took some sips of water as well and was trying to calm myself down. I managed to do so just a bit so I went back in for perhaps another 10 minutes before an epic scene in the film starts up again. This time I'm feeling noticably shaken and I'm probably not helping myself by worrying myself in my head. I find myself to be in complete control of mind, body, and emotions so this was very new to me. Stupidly I say nothing to my parents or brother and walk back to the bathroom and get water and a drink again. This time its not slowing down and my heart is fucking roaring to the point where I actually felt physical pain and was feeling like i could actually black out.

At this point I think I'm dying of a heartattack due to the ridiculous amount of beating my hearts doing, the chest paint and my lack of controlled breathing. I go to the nearest usher instead of rushing into the theater and I'm like...

"Hey man...shit..I think I'm having a heart attack can you PLEASE call 911"

Dudes puts on a shit eating grin...

"Your joking right?"

"I'm not even fucking joking MAN"

He tells me to go to the manager and she comes up and dials an ambulance. By then I feel like death was surely there gaf. Its probably the closest I've felt myself come to death. Strangely I was accepting of it, the only fear I had was that of the people I'd left behind and how they'd be hurt. It was a fucking depressing and sad experience to feel like there is no doubt in your mind your about to die...and painfully.

I walk slowly into the theater with the manager and wave my parents over to me without really disturbing the film (not that I would give a shit if I did), and they come over and of course go through the usual amazingly depressing explosion of fear and tears.

At this point the ambulance is there, and I'm just sitting down and doing the best I can to control my breathing and to stay calm. My fingers , feet, and head feel numb/tingly at this point. The paramedics arrive and I'm sitting at a little seat inside the theater. Amazingly enough it wasn't all that much of a ruckus due to the size of the main lobby. So they ask me a series of questions while hooking me up to all types of shit, and tell me that my blood pressure and heart rate are skyrocketing. They tell me to stay calm and I'm doing my best to do so. Not really speaking and just focusing as best as I can to calm down.

Eventually they say that everything looks good and that I was having a panic attack. They say I can either go home or go to the ER and I decide for my dad to drive me to the ER rather than to pay their ridiculous Ambulance rate later should I survive the ordeal. How they could suggest I go home is beyond me, considering I still felt like I was basically dying.

So I get to the ER, show my insurance, this and that and whatever and they lay me down on a bed and fit oxygen in my nose (although I didn't need it) and give me a pill to swallow
(which was difficult being it was hard to move my upper jaw). I realize the story is getting long at this point so I'll finish up. I lay there for 3 hours and end up getting an EKG and a heart X-Ray. Both come out showing I have NO heart issues and this was just a panic attack...

I get a prescription for the great medicine they gave me and I'm on my way home feeling tired and a bit out of wack but pretty much good to go.

I'm heading to my family doctor either today or tomorrow to discuss the event and see what I can do to prevent any in the future. Has anyone here at gaf ever had such a "panic attack"? It was very humbling, and even though I wasn't going to die from it, being that I thought I did I think its changed me for the better and I realize some of the mistakes I've been making in my life lately.

The saddest part is I didnt even get halfway through the Dark Knight. They refunded our money though. I think I'll have to wait a week or so to see it though. Less people and a better understanding of how to defend against this type of thing again or getting medicine for it.

If you're reading this, you probably asked where my tag came from, or what I think of it, or what the story is, or something along those lines. <_< I knew people would ask even in public threads and I didn't want to derail, so I just wanted to create a separate post that I could link to instead. Maybe a bit of a strange thing to do, but I always enjoy breaking semi-new ground in the territory of bizarre quirk.

So, let's go!

Where the tag came from:

The "hentai sim" part: (AKA the part that you probably asked about)

I said I wanted translations for visual novels and dating sims (having named Tokimeki Memorial specifically), which I guess automatically register as hentai in the minds of--uh, whoever created the tag. (I don't know who it was.) And in fairness, the assuumption would probably be correct in a large majority of cases since I'm sure many people who want such games do indeed want the hentai ones.

However, I'm actually not one of them. No, I rather think visual novels should go clean or not exist, and I want to play Tokimeki (never have yet since it's never been in English and I can't read it) for entirely chaste reasons. I mildly liked the anime once it got past episode 14 or so and magically turned somewhat decent (whereas it had been mediocrity defined before that point), and the game looks like some kind of heavy number-crunching experience. I can play almost endlessly with numbers and leveling up stats, even if it's nothing more than boosting school-related stats by studying and participating in athletics and other school-related activities, so yeah. I think it's basically like a high school strategy game or something--I really have no clue, honestly, which is exactly why I want to see at least a couple of them get translated so that I can find out whether I'll like or hate it. The "got lost" part:

I'm not entirely sure on this one, but in the same post as the above, I had a list of a few dozen hangups I have with current-gen gaming. So, if I had to guess, I'd say that since I listed out every little detail I can't stand about current-gen and the direction of the industry (whereas most people would only list four or five major things), it seems like I hate gaming and thus didn't mean to come to a gaming forum? I don't know, something like that. A brief conversation with some mods the night of the tag inclines me to think that way.

What I think of the tag:

Well, you know, it's actually kind of interesting and I can't decide whether I love it or hate it or am indifferent. (Note that this breed of indecision is very regular for me since I'm fairly philosophical and attempt to consider every angle of everything, ever, which is also furthered along by my rather introspective nature.)

Argument against the tag

On one hand, it's a patently-absurd lie, which creates--at very least--a low-level moral dilemma in that each post I make now potentially contributes to advancing a misconception among other posters. Well, technically two misconceptions, with the other one being that pornography of any form is socially or morally acceptable (rather than something which demeans the purpose of human existence by emphasizing entirely pleasure-based and temporally-fleeting actions over constructive and intellectual considerations)--but pragmatically, that may be irrelevant since I think most people around here already believe that. In any case, promoting a non-truth (that is, that I want anything to do with hentai) seems counter-conducive to the role of communication and so I largely don't want anything to do with it.

Argument in defense of the tag

On the other hand, it's--still a patently-absurd lie, and so anyone in the know about me may get a kick out of its full-scale, high-level irony. I mean, I'm the innocent of the innocent here. Do I need to go over evidence that this is true? Well, sure. I enjoy making lists, and not everybody is familiar with my posts. (In fact, I think nearly all people familiar with my posts are either Smash Bros. fans who followed the Dojo thread or retro fans who follow the Virtual Console thread.)

1) I was traumatized by Titanic--and not just because it was a horrible movie, before anyone goes there, but because of a certain scene. Too much for me.

2) I successfully avoided knowing what certain "things" looked like until I was 22 and a college health class ruined it for me. I realize this sounds impossible in the age of the Internet and that it may also be impossible to believe for some of you who evaluate all people at a glance by the one unwavering criterion of whether you'd "hit it" or not. D: Even so, it's practically like I had some kind of built-in detector warning me that a spam popup image would be bad--I was always somehow able to keep my peripheral vision away long enough to close the popups. Nor did I ever actually want to see these certain things--I'm just fine with appreciating faces, thank you--so that helped too.

3) One of my breakups was in large part because the girl made too many physical advances on me. I don't want that nonsense. I want to talk.

4) I'm a severe prude; even cleavage is nothing I ever, ever want to see. Busty female character designs should stop existing in gaming, too.

5) On another forum I was once PMed by a very conservative older Christian lady--let me repeat those four words, not to make fun of them (because I don't make fun of anybody, really) but so they sink in: conservative, older, Christian, lady--who was concerned that I had gone too far past "modesty" and into the realm of considering the human body a rather dirty thing. She was right about this, mind you, but that's beside my main point, which is that it's yet another piece of evidence in a mounting case.

6) I only want to see things that make me squee from their adorableness, not moan or scream or whatever noises people make when engaged in that kind of thing.

For all of these reasons and many more (including a particular high school story that I was going to post but thought better of since, you know, this is NeoGAF), the tag is ironic in the highest, and irony is admittedly somewhat amusing. Besides, as I said at the beginning of this whole mess, I like breaking semi-new ground in the territory of bizarre quirk--and having a rather befuddling and unbefitting lag is somewhat in keeping with that grain, even though in reality you could probably sum up my mottos on life as "If it's not cute, give it the boot" or "If it isn't most chaste, drop it post-haste" or "Pure is the cure!" or something along those lines, whimsical and likely rhyming.

Brief response to potential counterarguments

[By the way, two things...

-Assuming that I'm still using my avatar of Ayu spinning in circles when you read this, and you're staring at the avatar and the "lol, your avatar identifies a contradiction with your post" gig comes to your mind and you're thinking that I like non-pure things, well, then I'm pretty sure you haven't watched Kanon 2006. I'm fully aware of what Kanon was when first created, but I only care about what it became, which is the cutest cutesy that ever cuted up cute. And by "cute" I don't mean "teh sexay," which is nothing I'd be interested in, but adorable and saccharine and touching.

I blasted through its twenty-four episodes in a single weekend (and this was immediately after the fourteen episodes of Kanon 2002 in that same weekend, I might mention, but that's a separate issue) and, besides breaking into tears three separate times during episode 10 and three more separate times during episode 24, for eight days afterward I was literally unable to think in a romantic fashion or lustful fashion or whatever one might want to call it. No, Kanon is so flipping adorable that it entirely obviates sexuality, and I think anyone who watched it would have an increased natural production level of what I call the Purity Pheromone*. Exactly what I want!

(Incidentally, Ayu's spinning can also work to hilarious effect with the tag because, well, she looks lost and that fits perfectly.)

*I don't know if such a thing exists.

-Since--as I've been implying--I do consider every angle of everything, ever, I realize that some people might imagine that I'm only making up all of the above truths in an attempt to get a new tag. And I suppose they're free to do so, since I can only be to any one reader what that reader's perception shapes me as. However, in my defense I would at least suggest that saying all of the above is likely considered more scorn-worthy to most people than going to look at hentai forums. Thus I'm not sure why I would shoot for something that people would mock over something which (among GAF demographics) probably scarcely causes the batting of an eye, unless what I'm saying is in fact true.]

Argument for neutrality

And then there's indifference. I would say that, in spite of whatever appearance I might come off as having with these thought-out, heavily a prioristic (if not overblown?) posts which are rather a far cry from a good chunk of the kneejerk and/or one-liner posters lurking about the Internet, it's fairly easy to hurt my feelings comparatively to others. This is one reason that there are generally only two kinds of threads I post in: those whose full purpose is to rejoice over game announcements rather than play host to a debate, and those in which I've already accumulated dozens of posts and therefore I'm mostly not worried about personal attacks since the people there know me in some sense. I assure you, even after I get a 360 I'm not likely to ship over to the XBLA threads and start up large-scale posts since that might as well be a whole new world to me.

But in any case, a critical comment managing to hurt my feelings would need some element of truth to it (ah, that is to say, something which I would perceive as truth)--and a tag like this doesn't have such an element, but rather is so far off the mark that it's laughable. Not saying so as a figure of speech; I can honestly look at it and kind of laugh and think "Are you serious?", and this is the case even moreso when it seems like the reason that I got it is saying I wanted Tokimeki Memorial, which, again, is an entirely clean number-crunching game that, as far as I can tell to the best of my knowledge, is mostly akin to managing resources in a turn-based strategy RPG or something bizarre like that.

So, yes, it makes me kind of laugh. But then that moral dilemma element comes into play again and mitigates any positive value that may or may not be present: hence, potentially indifference.

What may have been better; or, by proxy a second argument against

With all of the above said, admittedly I'd rather be mocked for something true than something false. Demeaning tags can be awesome, but there's one issue with my current tag: since I don't actually support hentai or want anything to do with it (but precisely the opposite), I obviously won't post as though I did, and consequently I'll be missing out on the potential joy of having GAFers quote my tag back to me. -_- If the tag attacked or satirized something which I indeed believed, then I would be making posts about that belief and opportunists could reply accordingly. Examples of potential tags where this would work:

1) Shill for DLC dress-up games
2) High heels trampled my friends and family (or just a link to this flowchart found near the bottom, I guess? I don't know)
3) get in touch with your feminine side; shave your legs today
4) 3D gaming gives me heartburn
5) Never escaped 1994
6) Colette Defense Force founding member: ironing boards FTW
7) Derails into wild tangents
Loves ports more than new games
9) "Smash Bros.' Judas Iscariot"
or, "Sakurai: Et tu, Jiggy?"
10) Please ignore my walls of text
11) You write 3,000 words and what do you get? Still not a conclusion, just deeper in debt.
12) Self-hating Wii owner
13) Profanity burns my virgin ears

Of course, these are only some examples, but I think they look slightly more fun to me than a tag that'll never be quoted by anyone (except people who were asking out of curiosity, but any tag can yield that much). Perhaps that's only bias speaking, though; I don't know since it's difficult to be objective about that which affects oneself.
