Not trying to defend fanboys of any kind, but that "wait for game x" mantra didn't make itself up. Sfags hyped exclusives starting with Lair and Heavenly Sword as being system war changers and that trend has continued. There probably is some pre-emptive dehyping

Lair being hyped as anything other than a hopefully good game that would showcase the power of the PS3 is a post-construct. I'm sure there were some that were holding it up as a "savior" (as if that jargon or the act of being a hype controller isn't just as pathetic), but the vast majority of people, including typically hype-happy PS fanboys, were pretty tempered in their excitement, and few expected greatness from Factor 5 outside of the game being a technical wonder. It being complete shit surprised most, but it had nowhere near as far to fall as some other hyped exclusives. A hopeful attitude isn't a bad thing.
