As I have moved here from Melbourne I will relay my thoughts on Sydney.
-People here are
fit. There always people jogging, cycling and at the gym. It also makes this place rather superficial and you overly self conscious.
-People here are socially distinguished mentally-challenged. They have little concept of customer rapport. That being said North Sydney has the nicest people. People from Coogee are generally bastards.
- It's not a city about 'people', it's a city about 'activities, restaurants and sight seeing'.
- You will be able to pick up if you are decently attractive.
- You will find education standards here woeful.
- Depending on your scene. Newtown is dirty uni students. Glebe is nicer, richer uni students or people who have migrated from Newtown- hipsterish. Bondi is Bondi. North Sydney is nice and suburban but boring.
- If you want to be seen- Ivy, The Establishment and others (these places have standards). General pubbing Surry Hills, Paddington (would include Oxford St though a bit more clubbing). Red light- Kings Cross. Coming from Melbourne most places don't have any class to them just whatever gets the most people in them so that means cheap drinks or food, pokies (slot machines), sports and a slick interior.
- Bondi has topless sunbathing for you puritan Americans.
