BEAUFORT, S.C. -- Officials say an alligator bit off part of a golfer's arm as he leaned over to pick up his ball at a private South Carolina course.

The man, who is in his 70s, was retrieving his ball from a pond when the 10-foot alligator bit him at Ocean Creek Golf Course in Beaufort County. The gator pulled the golfer into the pond and ripped off his arm in the struggle. His golf partners were able to free him.

Wildlife workers killed the alligator and retrieved the arm in the hopes it might be reattached.

The man has not been identified. He was being treated at the Medical University of South Carolina, but officials there would not release any information about him.

A call to the golf course was not immediately returned.

To think, his mother wouldn't let him play football.

The OP reminds me of those annoying guys who hang out at gamestop and bug you while you're looking at games by trying to have a big conversation about gaming.

or am I the only one who gets accosted at these places?  :-\

there's this kid (er, he looked like late teens) who used to run up when I (or anyone else) would bring games in to trade and ask you why you're trading in this and that, then go on about review scores and sales and shit.  it was like neogaf personified.

My cat kinda does it every now and then, too.  Sometimes when you come in the door, she'll walk into the room, stop, and do this stretching thing that looks like she's waving "hi," then turn around and go back to eating/sleeping/whatever.

Very interesting seeing Europeans and Nintendo fans/junior members defend racist imagery of black people on GAF.
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=377161

Regardless of intent, that's racist imagery end of story. And if a country wants to parade that around as cultural tradition in 2009, it's their right. I'm just glad I live in a country where that is not tolerated.

Well, PD, just because something is racist in the US doesn't mean it's racist everywhere. You may think that making fun of black people is not a nice thing, but in some places it's tradition! And it's very racist of you to oppose their traditions.

And that's exactly their cultural relativism bullshit argument. They swarm any thread concerning racism in the US, but get so angry when the tables are turned on them. I'm so tired of this on GAF.

Just watch the threads on racism. A point of view always emerges to defend racist imagery of blacks and Muslims/Arabs on GAF, like clockwork

Slavery was a pretty awesome American tradition for nearly two and a half centuries, yet we had to get rid of because of bleeding-heart liberals whining about "racism" and "insensitivity". smh

Yeah, but it is also perfectly natural behavior tied to the herding heritage and flock instinct of the animal, so it's hard to determine if that is a sign of being overprotective, or a benign sign of protection. We had the nicest rottie around who seemed to harbor no aggression whatsoever, but he would become markedly more protective when there were people around that appeared to be strangers to us. He never attacked or even marked at anyone, but it was definitely a matter of protection. As it should have been.
