Yeah, this happens all the time. I think anyone who looks vaguely socially acceptable will be approached by the game/comic shop gargoyles because they want the attention and acceptance. These guys usually have the social grace of a three-alarm fire. Just give them the look that the guy in your EB avatar is giving. Or the "one-eyebrow raised" look, then turn pointedly away. Or just shout "SECURITY!" at the top of your lungs. Repeatedly.

Things got bad when the DS exploded and started beating the PSP on a weekly basis. Then they got downright awful when the Wii came out and started destroying the Xbox360 and PS3.

I agree. In fact, I blame Nintendo fans.

Nintendo fans acted poorly during the Gamecube era. Remember Megaton? When it became obvious the GC would never overtake the PS2, Nintendo fans tended to shut up and wait for the DS. Sony fans would just laugh and Xbox fans would be fortunate anytime a non Halo effort on Xbox made the charts. When the PSP was outselling it, Nintendo fans went apeshit because now their handheld dominance was now in question, after struggling to beat out a newcomer in the console scene. When DS sales did well, Nintendo fans overreacted and Sony fans began spinning.

I guess the common downfall of sales threads are fanboys of system manfacturers who were at one time market leaders but now are fighting for the scraps yet pretending they are as strong as they ever were. Kind of like how Nintendo fans are slightly less annoying because of the unquestioned DS dominance and Wii hardware dominance. It isn't back to normal because developers are barely making shit for the Wii, so they are angry and confused, hoping all third parties would switch gear to the Wii.

Comedies are actually known as being rather difficult to make well, even if they don't get the respect they deserve for it. Just having a truly funny and well directed comedy is an accomplishment in of itself.

Yes, the academy awards organization wants better ratings and causally, more popular movies nomited. However the large group who actually does vote for the movies are not so like minded and so I fully expect them to just nominate 5 more artsy drama movies than anything popular.

Actually, the change in how the Academy counts the votes will likely have a far greater effect than the number of nominees, I'd say.

Race issues are handled a lot differently in the US than in Europe.

It is why a person at one place gets away with throwing bananas onto a football field but if he tried at another place, he would get the shit kicked out of him for doing it.

Race issues are often put right in your face in the US, which I think is a good thing. Even then, it is heavily subdued because it is too awkward for people to discuss intelligently.
