Does PD know anything about politics? Really?
« on: April 17, 2007, 01:09:04 PM »
I think we've all read enough of his stuff to have formed an opinion. Cept me cause I ignore most of his stuff out of habit. Cept when he trashes Unforgiven; that gets my back up.

ANYWAY,  I assume his usual trademark polarization with political pictures and avatars are what can be found in his political threads rather than any real original thought. In fact, are his opinions any better than say... the sum of "thought" contained in a CNN Talkback Live episode?

Should he be allowed to even vote?

Phoenix Dark is like some weird amalgamation of typical conservative "moderate" talking heads, like Bill O'Reilly and Dennis Miller (I think he leans more to Miller) and liberal beat-around-the-bush'ers.  He's one of the biggest line straddlers I've ever seen and he really does seem to just regurgitate talking points at verbatim.

yeah, you pretty much nailed it. he's so determined to be "against" which ever group has most recently irked him (usually when they loudly question tenets of his home school dogma) that he forfeits consistency and rationality on the altar of personal affront.

I rarely debate politics because I ALMOST dont give a shit about politics on the national level because what I think does not matter. Bush doesnt like it? He'll slap it down. Whats the point raising my voice at a national level so I can have someone I didn't vote for, who stands for almost nothing I believe in and makes no attempt to understand where people like me come from slap down every idea for bizzaro reasons.

State politics or bust. If Obama doesnt win the democratic nomination im just gonna give up. Hillary's a crazy lady.

there's really no political party for gun-toting, death penalty loving, tax-apathetic, isolationist anti-religious progressives. i'd be a libertarian if it wasn't the party of antisocial psychopaths looking for any excuse to blame society for their alienation and thus their lack of participation.

i used to be fairly socialist, but as i've aged, i've discovered it really doesn't matter to me: i'm smart enough to get by in any system, although i'd prefer a fascist state where i am the god-emperor. the patent american brand of crony capitalism irks, though, because it lies to the lower classes. either suck adam smith's dick or get out of the free market restroom altogether, you quasi-oligarchic swishes!

edit: forgot isolationist.

Ralph is a egotistic tool who enjoys ruining elections he will never earn my vote in my life after fucking up the 2000 election.

Hillary > Rudy, like it or not I ain't voting for a pro-Iraq War candidate so Rudy is out. Obama has my primary vote locked but Hillary is a better choice than any republican barring one of my select few republicans I like (Ahnuld, Sen. John Warner, Sen. Arlen Specter, Sen. Chuck Hagel) some how magically being a nominee. As a political junkie I find the idea of a Rudy administration exciting just because of how entertaining it will be.

That kind of logic is silly right now. They are statistically tied right now and my hunch is America is clueless on what Rudy's Iraq War stance is and to independents the war is a make or break issue still.

Voting for a candidate because you think it is unavoidable that they will win is insane. Reagan crushed Carter and it was unavoidable in the year before the election but I still would have voted Carter.

Honestly, you can make any number of arguments about who cost Gore the 2000 election.  Was it the racial profiling that prevented tens of thousands of valid votes from being cast or counted in Florida?  Or maybe New Mexico?  Personally, I lay the blame with Gore.  He should have run a better campaign and stomped the everliving shit out of Bush.

Exactly. He was pretty damn amazing. If he had been president during a different and less complicated time he would have been regarded as a much better president. But then again it's kinda hard to pin point a good time in the 20th cen. considering much of it was bogged with one type of problem or another (End of Reconstruction, Depression, WWII, Cold War, Vietnam, etc). And I don't think he would have handled any of those issues well lol.

He still gets a high five from me :-*
