so i took a work-at-home day today to help my wife potty train my 2.75 yr. old daughter. she knows when she hasta pee/poop, and she knows where the toilet is and what it is for, but she cannot seem to draw the practical connection between the two. she says "i need to go potty!"", laughs, and pisses on the rug. it's like having a 1/2000th scale G in my house. any former or current fathers have any advice for this anti-miraculous period in my child's formative years? this sucks!

I never had problems with potty training, at least according to my parents. I'm guessing she'll fall more in line with the Ruzbah type. Quiet, brooding, and austistic $:-\$

The only way is to loss hope and in a dark hour of desperation spend thousands on children's bathroom products to try and "make it more fun"; like Kan-doo.

Once you realize the true battle is not you against the natural actions of your daughter, but rather you against marked up consumer goods and mental breakdown, you will bring new resolve to the battle; but its a war you can't win.

Well, for the record, she's a baby so I'm pretty sure that if you give her a few more years she'll turn out to be pretty drinky-ish.

Well, for the record, she's a baby so I'm pretty sure that if you give her a few more years she'll turn out to be pretty drinky-ish.

Man if she gains anything like Drinky's way with words the internet is going to be in a lot of pain come her teen years.

I can confirm she is not like Ruzbeh. She does not have that misshapen head thing that Downs kids usually have.

I fear for all boys; it should be law that drinky keep her away from books until at least grade 9 - just to let the rest of her age group catch up.

Good luck drinky try the bribe if she wants something bad enough she'll learn. I was bribed at the age of 2 with transformers. And please god teach her front to back not back to front. Girls gotta that hoo hoo hole and when they are that young you gotta becareful especially potty training. Get cottonelle wipes too for fresh clean feeling.

Hey Drinky, this is a serious question. Aside from toilet training, do you and your wife have any concerns about her development? Like speech, motor skills, social skills, self-help, etc? If you do, see if your local school district offers Child Find screenings. She may qualify for free preschool. It is a special education service however. Gotta get the word out about Child Find any way I can.

currently, she seems fine, and she's pretty much normal on everything but potty training. her reasoning and language skills are good, although she seems to repeat things more than her cousin of the same age and enjoys contradicting me and my wife a lot. what goes into a preschool evaluation, and what age is this performed at?

Students can enter program at three years of age, but she sounds just fine from all your stories about her.

The evaluations are tailored to the individual student, unlike school age evals which are comprised of cognitive, academic, and behavioral testing, along with class observations, health and developmental history, etc. With ECE evals, it can be comprised of speech, OT, PT, cognitive, preacademics, adaptive behavior, etc.

We can serve preschoolers with individually designed goals in speech, fine and/or gross motor, cognitive, social, and self-help. Potty training is about the only thing we don't work on.
