I got this from a pet forum, ive used it, it works.

Take your vacuum cleaner and set it outside your door. Flip it to ON and run the power cord into your room. Now plug the cord into a power-strip set to OFF but plugged into the wall. Whenever the cat starts yowling at the door or scratching on it flip the switch on the power supply. One dose usually keeps my cat away till morning.

The key is that they dont see YOU turn on the vacuum cleaner, which means they will always be afraid of it.

Anyone who owns a cat knows why. Cats dont sleep at NIGHT, they sleep during the DAY when youre toiling at your JOB.

When you get home they wake up and spend the rest of the night just trying to get in your face.

My cat is cool with me at night, 90% of the time. She sleeps right next to me. Sometimes she tries to sleep right next to my face, which is a problem.

What's with cats always trying to sleep on top of you? I slept over at a friend's house (she has 4 or 5 cats) and I woke up the first morning with one of their cats on top of my chest staring me in the eyes and another on my arm. WORST WAKE UP EVER. The next night one tried to sleep on my face $:-\$

so true, we have two cats, one stays upstairs when we sleep and the other one stays downstairs because he's very hyper. The girl will sleep upstairs with us cause she's fat and lazy and aside from trying to get in my face when I get into bed she will usually spend the night sleeping at my feet ~~like a woman should~~.

This vacuum thing sounds like a good idea though, gonna try it, TY MAF baby.

That's a good idea, so they can run around the bed all night? The point is that we need them downstairs or away from us so we can sleep. Once he gets older we'll be able to let him up.

won't matter, he wants to be upstairs with us, we might try locking our other kitty downstairs with him, although this might result in two cats meowing at us.

Sure I scare my cat, but the cats spoiled. It has a huge cat tower and a freakin huge box full of toys it can mess with any time of day. CATS GOTTA GIMME SPACE!

Dogs are not apartment friendly. There are exceptions to the rule but in general its a bad idea.

I'll probably live in an apartment as long as I can, houses cost too much for so little return. Unless you plan on having a family I dont see the point.
