Cinco De Mayo plans?
« on: May 03, 2007, 01:22:52 PM »
Not sure how it is by you guys, but here, a lot of white kids celebrate Cinco De Mayo, usually involves going to a Mexican restaurant/bar and doing a LOT of drinking. Got invited to go with some of my coworkers to a restaurant/bar nearby in Huntington so I think I'm gonna take them up on that offer. It's rare I turn down Mexican food! How about you guys, you doing anything?

From what I've seen it's mainly an excuse for border towns to rock it til the wheels fall off.

I thought Cinco de Mayo was to celebrate the amazing Mexicans we have in our country. Kinda like black history month, but for mexicans, and for one day only.

Yeah, I think its kinda silly for white kids to be all enthusiastic and gung-ho about it... But my best friend is gonna be out of town that day, that girl Theresa I've mentioned a few times has been fluttery again this week, and so I figure what the hell. It's about time my friends at work decide to do something in Suffolk for once near me instead of me driving all the way out there all the time, or having to take the 80 minute train ride into the city, and I figure if I meet someone at the bar, there's a good chance she'll be from the area instead of being from Jersey or something, which usually happens when I'm out in the city.

I didn't even notice Cinco De Mayo was that popular till about last year when I drove past my favorite Mexican restaurant near work and noticed 50 cars lined up down the side of the street near it... when normally the place has maybe 3 or 4 different groups of people in it during lunch time. I think that is cool though because I am friends with the owner and want to see them doing well.

I'm not really interested in anything Mexican related.  Mexico was the worst county that I've ever visited and Mexican food is one of the worst cuisines in the world.

Come down to Tejas.

Is that really what Mexicans call it?

Mexicans like to pretend it's still part of mexico.  Tejas is what texicans call it.

Wait, what??  Granted, Mexican food isn't as yummy as texmex - mainly due to eating lots of really questionable cuts of "meat", but it's good, motherfucker.

My friend Steven is doing his usual thing- yard sale in the morning, devolving into party/concert in his back yard as the day goes on.  Should be a blast as always.

I prefer fine dining which Mexican cuisine is the farthest thing from.  I laugh whenever I see upper scale Mexican restaurants.  When I eat cheap food, I prefer good old burgers and pizza.  I did like chorizo until I found out what they put in it.  I almost threw up when I heard what chorizo is made from.

I don't really hate it.  Just think that almost every other cuisine tastes better.

Try a Spanish dish like Paella instead.  I don't like Spanish food that much either but it's better than American Hispanic food.

Chorizo is fuck amazing.

I agree.  As long as you don't find out what it is.  I bet dog meat tastes amazing too as long as you call it something other than dog meat.

Where are you going tiesto? I'll come crash your party.

Up until now, Chico de Mayo has usually meant getting drunk at someone's house. Now that I can legally drink, and most of my buddies can, maybe a Mexican restaurant isn't a bad idea. A bunch of us went to an awesome one in Babylon a few months back. I drank that time too, even though I wasn't 21 yet. Yep, it's a good restaurant.

Pancho Villa's in Huntington (on NY Ave)... Not sure what time I'm gonna get there, maybe 8ish or so but you are more than welcome to crash...  There's a lot of people on the email list from my work, I'm hoping a decent enough number of them show up.

Chorizo = awesome
