It's rare to see a director catering so much to the fans. The costume, the casting, everything seems geared towards making this palatable do the diehard Iron Man fans. I just hope this translates into a great movie and boffo box office. Filmmakers should be rewarded for trying to remain faithful to what makes the characters great.
I agree, but then there is the opposite problem - adhering too stringently to the source material. Look at Harry Potter 1 and 2. They are pretty much exactly the books, and both are terrible films. Then Cuaron made 3, took some liberties with the story, and crafted a great film, one that had the touch of a great filmmaker all over it.
Either way, now that S-M trilogy is over, and Im not as hyped as many for TDK, Iron Man is EASILY my most anticipated comic book movie fix. Downey Jr. is pretty much my favorite actor this decade so far, everything Ive seen him in, Ive loved. He steals the show in everything. Wonder Boys, Kiss Kiss, Bang, Bang, Zodiac, etc. His casting alone, like Bale in BB, gets my ass in the seat.
