I dunno, Wii is cheaper and as sad as it sounds, has more games to play. 360 is almost as expensive, but has more games and a better online service, and equal performance.

If they drop the price too fast, people will think it's a panic move and assume the PS3 is la bomba. If they don't drop the price soon enough, 360 and Wii will permanently outpace it and Sony will be screwed.

I would buy a 360 Elite upon release if it weren't for the ridiculous failure rate.

P.S. This is coming from someone who owned a PSX and owns three PS2s. I don't own an XBox and I only bought a Gamecube when I saw a used one on sale a couple of years back. I am not a fanboy of any particular company.

You're forgetting the manufacturing costs. They're losing money making ps3s at 600 dollars, imagine if they make it even lower. Now remember, Sony isn't doing too well financially. I don't think we'll be seeing a price drop until fall 2008.

That's the problem. They shop it around as a goddamn blu ray player rather than a game machine. That was their first mistake. If blu ray wasn't in ps3, the chances of them being in this predicament would have been much lower.

By the time a price drop happens it will be too late. Most big titles either aren't coming to it or going multiplatform because of early bad sales, because of this it makes it very hard if not impossible for it to get going.

And when the price drop does finally happen it will be too late. It is basically unheard of for a system to leap frog ahead after over a year of really bad sales.

Even when PSP was beating DS in America DS always still had the bigger installed based and the PSP outpacing it only lasted from about april through august with an occasional month here and there of better sales.

The only example of a system jumping ahead late in life is SNES in America. But even then Genesis and SNES were always very close. Unlike PS3 and say Wii. And SNES had a commanding lead in Japan the whole time so it always had a healthy supply of third party support to bank on it, the PS3...not so much.

In all it is rather simple to see why PS3 failed. Expensive price at launch = bad early sales. Bad early sales = lack of third party support. Lack of third party support = continued bad sales. It is a cycle impossible to get out off.

Will sony be able to fix their image for PS4? If PS3 continues at this GCN like third place in sales, I doubt it. They will have tarnished their name making people unlikely to "trust" their new system much like N64 to GCN. It would take a Wii like company overhaul and image restructering down to its core like Nintendo did to fix this.

Microsoft is DAMN lucky. Wii being in the lead and PS3 flopping leaves a LARGE "niche"(I realize calling it a large niche is silly) for the more graphic heavy epic western and eastern games. Which have no place to go but 360.

Also PS3's fall lineup is ABSURD. How do they expect to sell systems? MGS 4 looks to be pushed back to 2008. FF XIII had no hope of being released this fall, at least in America. I mean what do they have left? Microsoft will have Mass Effect & Halo 3. Nintendo will have Mario Galaxy & Smash Brothers. What the fuck Sony.

Microsoft is doing A LOT of things right, aside from the faulty hardware, its not just luck. XBL cannot be beat, for example.

As for the PSP, it sells 'well enough' and honestly is LESS of a flop than the PS3. With games AND hardware for handhelds costing less than consoles by a large margin these days there is definately room for two handhelds in the running, even if the PSP sits permenantly at #2. Unfortunately reality suggests they will gut the PSP scene if the PS3 scene gets tough enough.

That I don't know. I'd like to think the PSP will stick around in the handheld market. Ive never understood the idea Nintendo Handheld fans have that the handheld market is only big enough for one really popular one. I think it has to do with NFans being able to say that Nintendo clearly 'won' somewhere. Usually the Nintendo consoles only win 'in spirit' in that Nintendo fans make a lot of excuses to explain playing the same line-up with every new console the first two years.

I easily support both PSP and DS. I spend much more on the console side of things since I have a 360/ps2/ps3 right now.

I agree fully. Don't get me wrong MS has done a lot right and for that it is my main console this generation.

But you have to agree, MS got pretty damn lucky. PS3 falling hard and Wii being the leader left a HUUUUUUGE gaping hole for an audience for the more epic graphic heavy games that 360 is the only viable platform for leading it to have a much better library than Xbox ever hoped for.

MS suffered through the XBox, nothing lucky about that. Microsoft was willing to play a close third if it had to this generation too, but it brought awesome stuff to the plate anyway.

I think what its really coming down to is that Microsoft is showing developers that you can develop games without pulling teeth, and produce results that are just as impressive for lower cost.

I think it's still too early to tell. It's only been about six months, and both the PS3 and the Wii have yet to get out the post-launch "big" games.

PSP isn't going anywhere either. It still sells well enough...too many people on the internets think every console is going to go down in flames at one point or another.

Well, they don't have 3 exclusives. Losing DMC and especially GTA was bad. Last gen everyone called Xbox a Halo adapter. At the same time, most people that I knew got a PS2 when GTA3 got popular or when one of the later GTA games came out.
