I don't think there's any real evidence that 9/11 was an inside job, but what's so implausible about it?

And Bush *is* taking away our peripheral civil rights and hewing deeply into the system of checks and balances that prevent hegemony by the executive branch. You're turning your rights over to the Administration piecemeal because you're either too lazy, too cowardly, too apathetic, or too sold on a single issue (ZOMG EVIL GAYS!!) to care. What's wrong with commenting on that? The Wachowskis only suggested tertiary similarities; they didn't say LOL BUSH =SUTLER = HITLER.
In relation to the graphic novel, its putting a blatant North American spin on an originally English story. That's why Alan Moore kept his name off of the film.

The show was a LIVE VARIETY SHOW PROGRAM. The only folks who knew what was gonna air that night were Stephen Fry's character and the various show folks who probably sympathized with him, given that they'd had almost a whole YEAR of V primining he populace for rebellion.

I'm not really commenting on the Wachowaski's political aims with the more; I'm more annoyed with the conspiracy theorists who gravitated toward the movie, as if it proves their point.

That still doesn't make much sense...

The government could know exactly what you were doing and saying if they wanted, yet they didn't censor TV shows? What..the?
The TV people were in the government's pocket, so the governement didn't feel the need to force their censorship down anyone's throats. They always figured the TV people would be with them, thus the fuckup when the broadcaster had his anti-government episode aired.

Yeah, and I hate Fight Club kids who misinterpret Fincher's movie as a cry for anarchism. Doesn't mean Fight Club is a bad movie, or that its fundamental message about the need for moderation in one's life and masculinity is any less valid.

The government didn't feel the need to keep tabs on the TV station because they already had it in their minds that the station was "under their control". Thus, they didn't stop them from airing their own material, because after so long they figured all of the material would be pro-government anyway.

all LIVE shows are filmed at least hours in advance. The point IS that there wasn't a real script, and that many of the folks at the TV station sympathised with and supported V.

Yup, exactly. Those kind of people piss me off. Or people who actually think they're like Neo fighting against the Matrix (IE conservatives). *shudder*

Master Shake: The secret I have for reloaded is I start the movie with the scene where Neo sees the Oracle for the first time in the movie.

Removing the rave scene, pot bellied morpheus, and the jesus return to zion makes the movie good.

Well, that definitely would make the movie better, but it still leaves that dumbass car chase scene.

What didnt you like about reloaded specifically, shake?

Aside from the rave, pot bellied morpheus, and the jesus neo return to zion prior to him seeing the oracle and meeting the many smiths the movie was a lot of fun.

There was that 'because I love you too damn much' line but that was no worse than trinity bringing him back with a kiss in the original.

What was wrong with the car chase scene specifically? It was one of the most technically impressive sequences of its time. The sword vs SUV was neat, the two semis crashing was cool, the agent vs ghost guys vs trinity/morpheus and the bike stuffwas cool.

What didn't I like about Reloaded?

1) The idea that there needed to be a Matrix sequel

2) The Architect scene. The guy literally has a dictionary sprawled out on his lap, that was CGed out of the film.

3) The rave scene. Yawn.

4) The keymaker rescue scene: a dramatic death for a character that's been in the movie for three minutes? Yawn.

5) The Neo Vs. Smiths fight kind of dragged after the first few minutes, but at least it was somewhat entertaining.

Etc.

The car chase scene symbolizes everything that was wrong with the two sequels imo. The first movie was paced very well. There weren't many over produced, over blown sequences. In Reloaded, everything is overblown. It's like they sat down and said "lets make this Matrix...TO THE EXTREME!" So the movie starts out with a motorcycle somehow starting a huge ass explosion.

Fight scenes are far too drawn out and over blown in the movie. I don't want to watch a 20 minute car chase. I don't want to see Neo beat up 100 clones for 5 minutes, then get his ass kicked for 5 minutes, and then have him fly away as if he's fucking Superman.

All style and no substance, like a Mac.

Im used to defending reloaded so im not taking this personally or anything.

1. This was conceived as a trilogy before the first Matrix came out, the idea that a sequel was to come was valid. subjective and a little off base.

2. Yet V using all the V words was ok? I liked the V scene, but I also liked the Architect scene since it added clear contrast between neo the human and a machine. It also spoke of the way the architect thought compared to say, the orcacle.

3. Yeah, rave scene was uncomfortable.

4. Which character? Key maker doesnt die till the end? His death was needed to underline the idea that he was created for that task alone, which suggested early on that the entire effort neo was undertaking was another level of control.

5. Neo vs Smith fight scenes rocked. Neo vs Seraph was somewhat lame and amounted to a dance.

As for the all style no substance comment, I think Reloaded has the most plot development and character development of the three movies.

1) I know it was supposed to be a trilogy, but after seeing Reloaded I just didn't agree with the idea.

2) V using all of the V words is supposed to come off as a little extreme and forced sophistication, which actually worked to underline his character. In contrast, the Reloaded scene only made me really, really hate the Architect and want to put a slug in my skull.

3) LOL

4) Key maker was given a far more dramatic death than he deserved, and just it seem as if the film was going for one of those "smurai cuts a dude in half after rescheething his sword" moments. Yawn.

5) That fight, as PD said, was all style and no substance.

And another thing, the Neo using his powers in the "real" world/cliffhanger ending seemed like it was being played just for shock value. Double yawn.

2.) Well you arent supposed to like the Architect, I wouldnt be surpised if his language was meant to feel oppressive and restrictive in contrast the oracle being all laid back and free. I think there are reasons, but your reasons for not liking it, while appearing to be the desired result, are entirely subjective.

4.) The key makers death was given that level of importance for a reason. Through the whole movie it is suggested that all programs in the matrix are given a purpose. The death of the key maker underlines the idea that he was GIVEN a purpose by the machine world to provide a key to the source? That just screams another level of control. Its a theme that is woven through the entire movie.

6.) neo using his powers at the end was there to show his connection with the source. Having encountered it and leaving it, something that hadnt been done before, he was a changed BEING.

This shit wasnt written off the cuff to make bucks people, and I am under the impression that many people think it was because it was flashy an cost a lot of money, but if you watch it a few times with an open mind you can see how everything works together. The trilogy was complete essential. I also recommend watching the matrix documentaries in the ultimate collection.

Well im not arguing your opinion, I am arguing the intentions of the film.

Additionally I thought it was great in the third movie how that 'purpose' aspect of a programs lifecycled was views as oppressive to the programs and showed how many tried to escape this oppression by living in a prison created for humanity.

and in case you missed it cause of my edit:

4.) The key makers death was given that level of importance for a reason. Through the whole movie it is suggested that all programs in the matrix are given a purpose. My ass The Matrix (and most successful flicks that get turned into trilogies) was planned as a trilogy from the get-go. That's just the bullshit all filmmakers usually spin to try to make you believe that "no, we ARE NOT simply trying to milk the cash cow, we have REAL ARTISTIC VISION and planned this from the start! That fully explains why our first movie is TOTALLY different in tone and quality than the other two, LOLZ!"

The Matrix trilogy ranks just above the SW prequels in terms of biggest cinematic abortions of the past 25 years.

Quick question:

Remember the part where that guy shows Evey all the illegal political stuff he had in his basement? There's a part where she looks at these black and white pics in the corner, and the camera quickly shoots away. What was that about?

I take it he was gay though, but I didn't see how the pics connected to what he said next.

It's better than Spiderman 1 and 2, but it's not fair to compare them. V is a very deep, complex movie based on a graphic novel. It's not a comic book movie to me.

I don't want to make it sound like I hated it.  It's not a SW prequel or anything like that.  Mild spoilerish stuff follows:

But it did have a tendency to preach, there were stretches that really bored me, and while I got the V/Evee "free from fear" thing, it didn't feel believable or compelling.  Having one character go through a really elaborate process to achieve a psychological breakthrough that he explains out loud just doesn't do it for me.

On the other hand, there was nice action and cinematography and acting and Stephen Fry.

Picking up on what Drinky said about the political side, I think the most interesting change from the original comic was the government conspiracy with the epidemic.  In the comic, Britain turns to fascism after worldwide nuclear war.  In the movie, there's a conspiracy to create a fake terrorist attack to seize power (I forget whether they kept the nuclear war in the film).

I think the implication is that viewers might have been more sympathetic to an authoritarian regime if it were a reaction to a real threat on that level.  The fascist regime isn't bad because it's fascist, but because it's unnecessarily fascist.
