Since I really can't post this anywhere else without starting some shit with people, here goes:
Jerry Falwell represents why people hate Christianity so much in this day and age, and everything that has gone wrong with the religion.
He was anti semitic, he used funds that were given to him for use in faith-based organizations and funneled it to political organizations, has blamed a major terrorist attack against the United States on its own citizens when the culprit was clearly terrorists, and has tried to call things homosexual to the point that it almost seemed paranoid in a sense. Every word he said "in the name of God" was served to distance people who could have been potential believers (such as homosexuals, Jewish people, etc) and basically turned them in the wrong direction. Many people now see the acts of hate committed by Jerry Falwell as an accurate description of someone following the teachings of Jesus Christ.
I believe in God, and I believe that Jesus was someone who brought love to the world. Jerry Falwell distorted Jesus's message and turned it into hatespeech, driving people away from Jesus's teachings and defying one of the two commandments Jesus held most dear to His own heart: "Love thy neighbor as thyself." He also acted in complete opposite to another verse in the Bible: "Judge not, lest ye be judged." He crapped on the Bible he claimed to preach, and he helped to created today's Christianity: an organization that shows hatred towards anyone that doesn't believe rather than show compassion and understanding, which is what Jesus would have done.
Jesus would have hung out with the same people that, if given the opportunity, Falwell would have helped nail to their own crosses.
Falwell may or may not be in heaven, but either way, I would say that God's not too fucking happy with him right now.
