War in Iraq: This is going to be along Summer.

BAGHDAD - Another U.S. soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq, the military said Thursday, pushing the four-year death toll for American forces to 3,501, according to an Associated Press tally.

The count includes 23 deaths in the first six days of June, an average of about four per day.

The soldier was killed Wednesday when a roadside bomb exploded during combat operations in a southwestern section of Baghdad, a military statement said. It added that two other soldiers were wounded in the attack and evacuated to a coalition medical facility.

Nothin worse than fighting people who plan on dying anyway.

I'm actually more worried about things like this; long term I mean:

Quote
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19094012/

BEIRUT, Lebanon — One Palestinian refugee camp here in northern Lebanon is today a smoldering, sniper-infested, booby-trapped battlefield where a few hundred al-Qaida inspired fighters have been making an Alamo-like last stand against the Lebanese army.

Another refugee camp in the south seems to be heading in the same direction, and there are more, many more, al-Qaida-inspired time bombs like these slowly ticking away in Lebanon and throughout the Middle East.

The jihad-inspired militants fighting Lebanese troops today in what’s left of the shelled, scorched and bullet-strafed Nahr al-Barid camp are from a small cell called Fatah al-Islam, “Islamic victory,” but the name isn’t important. There are other groups here too, Jund al-Sham, “Soldiers of the Levant,” Esbat al-Ansar, “League of Partisans,” and Al-Qaeda fi Bilad al-Sham, “al-Qaida in the Levant.”

The idea of a Jihad in FULL GEAR isn't a pleasant one.

Say if Allied forces were to leave, wouldn't there be blow back anyway? I'd imagine it would be much worse than if the US were to stay and control the democratic proceedings as it were however long it took.

I don't support a withdrawl from Iraq until certain benchmarks are met. I think it would be morally unjust to leave a country in utter shambles after destroying it for unjust, unsound, and un-Constitutional reasons. Therefore I would like to see the country's infastructure repaired better than it was before we entered. We may not be able to police a civil war, but we can at least make sure the country's cities have electricity and running water. I would like to see the continued repairment of buildings and schools also.

I think this can be accomplished within the deadlines of all the proposed withdrawl points, such as March 2008. Yet until these benchmarks are met, I will refuse to endorse any withdrawl plans.

I don't know if you've checked up on these extremely valuable benchmarks that you're talking about but the infrastructure is better than before.  there's more power plants and water cleaning plants.

how do you repair the infrastructure when a) local warlords and mosques will feud over ownership; b) it'll get blown to high fuck anyway; and c) the leadership will get blown to high fuck as well?

also, what's a "blowback"? the country will collapse into chaos and it is in fact all our fault, but really, whatcha gonna do? either way, we're fucked, now let's accept the answer that involves less dead americans and more global humiliation.

okay, best thing that can happen is an apology.  are there people squatting in some god damn building, yeah.  you don't need to be in the country to pay for rebuilding it.

The point being that it could be very well worse for US civillians compared to US soldiers in the end.
Anyway the US is going to be stuck no matter what.

Peace is the number one thing in Iraq, silly PD. What's the use of electricity and running water if you're likely to get blown up going about daily business?
Atleast with Saddam if you stayed in line you were pretty much safe.

Of Republican manufactured white powder pestilence
Marines Corps. flat (?) vest, with the guns and ammo
Spittin' bars like a demon stuck inside a piano
Turn a Sambo into a soldier with just one line
Now here's the truth about the system that'll fuck up your mind
They gave Al Queda 6 billion dollars in 1989 to 1992
And now the last chapters of Revelations are coming true

It's going to be disgusting to see the republicans/right wing pundits turn on the war if a dem gets in office. We'll see the Vietnam excuse of "oh the war was mismanaged, that's why we lost" and they'll blame the dems. Ugh

Republicans bashed the vietnam war when it was Johnson's war and Nixon campaigned on to pull out of Vietnam. Suddenly republicans were the ones defending the war.

That's what I hate about politics. There is SO much hypocricy and double talk. It's pathetic seeing people defend their base just because they're on the same "team". If someone fucks up they deserve to be called out, no matter the party.

At the Christian school I played basketball at there was this older guy who said he wanted to enlist in Vietnam, but he dad wouldn't let him because the war was being mismanaged and fought wrong; his dad is still alive and a WWII vet. Anyway that point is basically McCain's big thing. The war was just...but it was fought wrong and we're in a bad position...but now we have a new strategy and everything's fine. Very nice way to cover one's ass

Error: yeah the lyrics were wrong. Noticed once I posted, but I can't edit so...
