Watched the DYRL blu-ray last night. Heellloooo 1980s! I haven't watched this in ages, I forgot just how much it screams 80s, and how much Hikaru looks like an elf.

Some scenes are absolutely gorgeous, while others are strangely blurry. The edits are not noticeable unless you've watched the movie a million times and are totally obsessed with it.

Any of you mugs watching Muv-Luv? It's been decent so far, though the budget isn't particularly great and fan service does make an appearance about once or twice an episode. It does, however, have male characters that are thankfully more interesting than cardboard and a few female characters that won't make you want to stab your own eyes out [although there are a few there that might]. The first couple of episodes are like an anime version of Starship Troopers with high school girls and the next three have some Top Gun action going on.

I am. Seems like a decent mecha-vs-aliens anime. The fan service is no surprise since Muv-Luv was originally a PC hentai game, hence the ridiculously-skin tight pilot suits. Total Eclipse is an alternate version of the game's story with aliens and violence and whatnot. Apparently most of the "real" Muv Luv cast isn't even in Total Eclipse.

The first two episodes have a completely different tone than what three and four have shown (haven't watch episode five yet). It's all high school girls GANBARE FOR GLORIOUS NIPPON (but serious) and gets pretty gory at the end.

Then the whole show switches gears with episode three and you get a different setting and cast, with the main character now being the male Yuuya Bridges.

There's also a scene in episode four that is ridiculously racist against the Japanese. I was watching it with my (Japanese) wife and we both just LOL'd because it was way, way too over the top.

Was surprised that nobody upload that scene to Youtube.

That's certainly true of Dragon Ball Z, but the original Dragon Ball is pretty much just an action-adventure/comedy.

It's not even a mainstream contrarian thing, it's just that both dragonball and dragonballz wasnt well done. Especially in the case of Z. I liked Yamcha in Dragonball going all wolf fang fist with his mulleted self, but everything else just grated on me.

Yes, I have read all of Dragonball. Watched Dragonball anime too, it was cute but nothing I'd hold up in my top lists. By the time I started with Dragonball Z(anime), I was already very familiar with Togashi so it just came off as B-tier by comparison.

EDIT: To be clear, I read all of Dragonball first (including the second half which would become the "z" chapters), then watched the Dragonball anime, then went on a heavy Togashi trip reading and watching YuYu and starting off with HxH then jumping back into the "Z" anime. By the time I saw "Z" animated it was already absolutely ethered by Togashi in my mind.

Binbougami Ga!- Is about a goddess of misfortune who is sent to earth to bestow bad luck on a girl with a massive amount of good fortune. Pretty much all wacky comedy...watched the first two episodes and enjoyed it. Especially liked that the good-luck girl trolls her jealous classmate,s instead of getting all stereotypically-down when they talk about her, and the gags related to other manga/anime.

Hagure Yuusha No Estecia- The plot is about a high school full of kids who gain magic abilities, travel to other dimensions, then come back and learn to use their powers. The main character is the strongest but the head of the student council is his rival and blah blah blah. Now brush that to the side and fill the show with various females and turn up the H-level to staggering proportions- lesbian chick fingering and fondling other girls? Check. Main dude trying to sleep-fuck the girl who girl who lives with him? Check. Three girls peeing themselves at the same time? Che-- WAIT WHAT THE FUCK? Yeah, it goes there. I was fuckin' speechless...made my wife start cracking up so I guess we got some entertainment out of it.

Bad news- Episode 7 is more like episode 6. But the fan service is way less if that helps. Pretty much all dialogue in the cave.

Episode eight looks like it's gonna be back to ALIEN KILLIN' though.

All the episodes are absolutely not good. The show is excellent till 27. The cat and mouse works really well as more elements get's introduced, it's just the last arc of the anime that ruins everything.
