I just found my new favorite manga: It's Not My Fault that I'm Not Popular [Watashi ga Motenai]. It's about the world's most socially-awkward girl and her attempts to not be so socially awkward, all of which invariably fail in the most embarrassing way popular.

Sounds like kimi ni todoke

Only in that both feature impossibly-awkward leads. In Kimi ni Todoke, Sawako only needs a makeover to do away with half her problems and very early on gets a boyfriend, while also having several close friends who help her along the way. Her awkwardness is lighthearted, often played for humor's sakes. In Watashi ga Motenai, Tomoko is cursed with impossibly-bad luck, is utterly wretched and loathsome while being simultaneously pitiable, and is the poster-child for Forever Alone. Her awkwardness is borderline unbearable, but also utterly hilarious.

Sounds like a good Ying to Kimi ni's Yang. I'll give it a read in the future

Some people don't think too highly of it, but I really liked it. Kinda steampunk-ish, with lots of airship battles and some plucky kids characters [that aren't quite as annoying as they could have been, see: Last Exile's sequel] going on adventures in-between wars and political intrigue. It also came out back when TV series still had pretty good budgets and back when Gonzo was at the top of their game.

I didn't care for the new characters and it felt like it indulged way too much in that girls club moe slice-of-life that the industry has been peddling more of since K-On came out. Of course, there were action scenes and political intrigue, but it didn't really engage me because I didn't about any of the stuff surrounding it. Maybe it gets better after the first six episodes but I'll probably never know.

Slice of life is fine, when its in its place. I don't want rampant slice of life in my action series, I want action in my action series. Maybe it would have been more tolerable if I liked the main characters more, of if the writing was better, but I didn't and it wasn't. So, again, watch the original and skip the sequel.

I'm not against the genre. Azumanga Daioh, Kamichu, Haibane Renmei, and Aria are all great, some of my favorite series, and I'd be all over a Yotsuba series if one ever got made, but there's also a lot of those shows that are just terrible, bland and boring or, worse, indulgent in fan-service in addition to being about nothing. But what I really dislike is when it bleeds over into other genres, that's just not something I have any patience for at all.

I really enjoy the whining of people who didnt get to see their pairings happening, even in the manga kobayashi gave a big fuck you to pairing tards. If you were watching it for the pairings, and not the comedy the pairings created you are doing it wrong. Besides it's pretty much heavy handedly hinted at who Harima(Kobayashi's) life partner is (no it's not who he ends up with in the manga).

since great rumbler suggested it,i've watched redline, the racing bits are cool, like really cool but i don't like the rest of the movie... it feels like they just stretched it so it would be the proper movie size, compare to dead leaves where it's always "BANGBANGBANGBOOOOOOOOOMMMMACTIONACTIONACTION"

also ending needed more

maybe he could have throw himself at the giant robo guy while screaming "POMPADOUR HEADBUTTTTTTTTTTTT"

i've also read "the crater" it's a bunch of short stories with a "twlight zone" twist by osamu tezuka, some are neat and some are stupid

spoiler (click to show/hide)
in one of them a bunch of aliens camouflage themselves as prison fugitive and take hostage a random family while trying to suck osamu tezuka brain as they believe osamu tezuka hold secrets on how to conquer the earth, they succed but as they return to their hideout, the police bust them......

....only to discover that the police wanted to bust the family they were holding hostage because they were actual real criminals on disguise, the story ends with the aliens turning into mangaka's since they now have osamu tezuka mentality

in another, there is a dumb kid who lives in a country town with his big brother, his big brother is telling him the fable of momotaro but then it turns out that aliens (i swear these two are the only stories with aliens in them!) have implanted a machine on his little brother so they could (again) extract info on how to attack the earth,so the dumb kid tells them momotaro tales like they are straight fact and the big brother discover this

the big brother at first thinks of calling the authorities but then decide it would just trigger the actual invasion,so instead he modify the tales of momotaro so that the demon of the fairytale are actualy the alien that are invading and momotaro treasure is a nuclear bomb that wiped them all,the alien gets scared and decide to retreat

SZS counts as slice of awesome. How do you folks regard Casshern Sins? I got a random episode of it the other night and it had a genuine actual style to its artwork and reading a bit about the plot makes it sound potentially worthwhile.

I think Casshern Sins is a top anime. I regard it very highly and it even sneaks into my Top 10 of all time lists when I am in the mood. The music is superb, the action scenes are well choreographed and tell a story themselves, the plot is a strange journey of depression and redemption in a pessimistic decaying world. The interplay between Dio and Casshern is fantastic. I just wish they fleshed out some of the chars more, but they all evolve very much throughout the show, Casshern the slowest for obvious reasons. They spend a lot of time touching on the Lore of the universe as well. And the music is out of this world great.

I really fell in love with Casshern when I was a kid, when I saw the opening for the first time it just rekindled that love

hunter x hunter episode 35 has some amazing animation

It's the only anime I watch at this point, just because I'm familiar with hunter x hunter.  the new anime on the whole is a downgrade from the first one.  This exact moment in the original anime is handled better too.  But it's still nice to see well animated fight choreography.

i've read pluto, one of the most famous story of astro boy is the one where an evil sheik decide to destroy the world seven most powerfull robot by building a robot called pluto, this reimagining is done by the 20th century boys artist and the art is like... really amazing, the whole thing has also been turned into some sort of noir story (one of the character introduced in this version is an hannibal the cannibal like robot :lol) and instead of having astroboy as the protagonist, the story is told by the point of view of gesicht,a robot detective that also suffers from amnesia

and it's really good at first when the plot is all about him and it's quite awesome to see such a cartoonish plot being turned into a more serious one,but then the plot turn stuuuuuuuupid with stuff like "MY HATE IS STRONGER THAN YOUR HATE" and the character are like "emotionemotionemotionemotionemotion" the funny thing is that you'd expect the original version of the story to be like that since that's the one that is more cartoonish but no! it's all stuff introduced in this version

so yeah i guess the artist is just incapable of writing endings or something
