Anyone?  Didn't Bebpo watch this?

Do I need to watch the original series to not miss anything in Aquarion Evo?

Don't watch Evol if you haven't seen Aquarion.  The entire selling point of the series is the connections to the previous series which ended on a sort of to be continued in 12,000 years.

Plus Aquarion so far, is 10x better of a show than Evol.

People, like Mr. Gundam, who think Aquarion (the original) is creepy never stuck with it.  It's a good show, especially if you like mecha.  It's a prime example of not judging a book by its cover.  The show has a lot of heart and humor.

I don't watch mecha for humor. It seems so incredibly out of place most of the time.

I watched the first episode (which I think is 1-2 combined) and definitely see the past connection.  The sexual linking-thing really came off as just WEIRD and out of place, but whatever...typical anime stuff in this day and age.  :p  If I can find Aquarion somewhere to watch I'll check it out.

It can, but not with subtitles, which makes it useless for anime in that respect.

Pretty much everything I want to watch is on Hulu or Crunchyroll, though, so I'm rocking out with some anime on TV.

Useless then.  I have a ton of older stuff I'd like to watch and streaming has failed me with so much stuff being in .MKV format.  Fortunately it's easy enough to remove the HDMI cable from the dusty Apple TV under the TV and hook up my laptop for that stuff.

Yes.

I normally don't watch Go Nagaii shows, but this one is pretty good.  The main characters are cool and the monsters are fun fights.  It's just enough violence to be dark but enough HERO to be happy and satisfying.  The OP is good too.

Zetman's an okay dark/fantasy/action series, but the plot does jump around a bit because of how they're adapting it from the manga.

It is nothing at all like something Go Nagai would do.   Zetman is by Masakazu Katsura...the guy who made Video Girl Ai, Shadow Lady, and DNA2.  If anything, Zetman looks more like a monster-fied Batman- Katsura is a huge fan of the character.  Zetman is also way, way more serious than all his previous panty-shot filled works.

Quote
The official website of the anime studio Kyoto Animation (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star, K-ON!) announced the results of the third Kyoto Animation Award program on Friday. However, the studio awarded no grand prizes or honorable mentions in the manga or novel categories.

The judges committee thanked creators for submitting their works but said they could select no winning works after reviewing the submissions. This year was the first time that the awards program did not include a scenario category. Kyoto Animation offered 500,000-yen (about US$6,200) grand prizes and 100,000-yen (US$1,200) honorable mention prizes in this year's awards.

I'm watching 8 shows now, which is probably the most anime I've followed weekly in 10 years.  6 are from this season.  My rankings after 3-4eps from each!

1. Eureka Seven AO
2. Tsuritama
3. Lupin the 3rd A Woman Named Fujiko
4. Kids on the Slope
5. Zetman
6. Gundam AGE
7. Aquarion Evol
8. Jormungand

Kind of surprised by Tsuritama.  At first was just kind of ok, but it's really good now.  Very fun show.  If E7 AO wasn't great, it'd be the best thing airing.  Kids on the Slope is a little disappointing I think.  It's very well done, but it's kind of typical Japanese school romance (and not on the Karekano caliber or anything) when it's not doing the jazz stuff; kind of an odd choice for Watanabe comeback tbh.  Jormungand is competent but I hate every character in every ep so far.  I dunno why I keep watching.  Will probably drop it after next weeks ep.  Zetman is good.

I also checked out Hyouka ep1 and it has ridiculously good movie quality animation as expected from KyoAni but I don't need another "kids in high school" anime right now.
