Classic show and im legit kinda upset they couldn't get the film re-make off the ground. It's in that adapation sweet spot where not only is the material kinda dated, it's also not super popular enough to really ruffle anyone's feathers. They could have done something really cool and special.

Dororo is another where idk how we haven't had any sort of adaptation of it outside of a live action movie and a ps2 video game in the mid to late aughts.

Reclaiming your body parts makes for a really good gimmick at the beginning (you play in b&w until you reclaim your eyes), but it becomes monotonous. There's loot, kind of? And the last boss is a total pain. That's all I remember.

Finally got around to finishing Godzilla Anime movie #2. Was about as zzz as the first. Don't have a lot of hope for the 3rd one at this point. They're not terrible movies, but they're terribly uninteresting movies that do nothing with Godzilla other than have it sit for like 90% of the movie and then walk a few steps and shoot a few blasts.

I'd never seen Aldnoah Zero, so until now I was like it can't be bad, Urobochi stories are fucked up and interesting! But now I'm like, fuck I hope Aldnoah Zero isn't boring like Godzilla movies

To be fair, the best part of Godzilla Movie #2 were the mecha designs of the Vulture units. Looked pretty cool flying around.

It says a lot about the product when they're focusing on who is making it as opposed to what the story, which sounds bland and cliche as fuck, is. I also like the studio head acting like this being hand-drawn means something when that still applies to most cartoons.

Started exploring some of the Anime on Amazon Prime.
Started The 12 Kingdoms. I read like 3 of the books like 10 years ago. I thought they were fun. Don't remember much about the books but I dig the early 2000s aesthetic.

Also started Rage of Bahamut. We'll see if that's any good. Only one episode in, but it's wonderfully animated.

Batman TAS is the first thing I think of. Also Real Adventures if Johnny Quest.

So I’m trying to see if there’s a market for the animation I want to make. Batman TAS was a resounding success but Real Adventures iirc, bombed and was cancelled. But that was over 20 years ago. So tough to tell.

There's definitely a market for mature animation in America, but there really doesn't seem to be much interest from any major animation studio to make it themselves. Seems like the best you could reasonably hope for would be finding a few other people who want to make that kind of stuff and trying to get something going on Kickstarter or Patreon.

I was saying to a buddy recently how I think both western animation and comic books are in a great place right now. I feel like we're just now getting out of "make it look like anime" and have finally arrived at place where its more influenced. The source material being properly digested now. All that and a lot of ppl have gone back to re-appreciate just what disney and stuff like the 40s superman cartoon have done for animation.
