https://www.thedailybeast.com/why-barely-legal-porn-is-so-dangerous?ref=author

I just read the article.  It's personal and reflective and it asks questions that should be addressed in porn.  But at no fucking point does it talk about why barely legal porn is "so" dangerous!

That stupid title was plastered on Daily Beast to get moralizing freaks like RedMercury interested, click the link without reading it and get a boner at the thought they could dish scorn at others.  And that dumb fuck sucked it up and is currently attempt to blast his indignity in that thread.  That's the fucking irony!

I don't know how you can reconcile a world view that sex work is a perfectly valid career choice and there is nothing shameful about it with the view that all porn is inherently misogynistic because stupid bitches have no personal agency and its mostly intended for the male gaze

Not in a checkmate atheists kind of way.
In an honest to god how do you handle the stress fractures of that much cognitive dissonance.

Frankly the fact that you boiled down a complex topic like what people are attracted to for their sexual fantasies to a binary choice and made the vote public comes across more as a disingenuous attempt to confirm your own bias. I don’t believe that you were ever interested in having an actual discussion of this topic.

Probs an unpopular opinion here but..

Was listening to Jon Ronson's Last Days of August which is a fantastic piece on August Ames death.  The porn industry is super fucking sleezy and unconscionable to even its biggest female performers in the most mainstream porn.   Anyone on Resetera who patronizes these sites but whines about leggings on 3D Mortal Kombat models needs a reality check.

I mean, sure. Parts of sex work are criminalized and there is a huge overlap between that and porn. Any industry that exists in such a gray area is going to be inherently sleazy.

Sure, that's a nuanced argument; I've seen a few documentaries like Sex: The Annabel Chong story that makes it seem like an extremely unpleasantly coercive environment that a lot of people go into and are mostly alone dealing with all sorts of pressures to do things they do not want to do, and people getting rich exploiting that.

But thats a discussion about the negative aspects of the industry itself, not an argument about the principle of that product existing, a la the Andrea Dworkin line of feminist thinking.

Its like the difference between being against videogames in general because they turn kids into murderers [citation needed] vs criticism of gaming industry practices like lack of residuals or crunch culture.

Anecdotal evidence for sure, but I saw a LOT of this around the first season of Stranger Things, where blogs that post primarily just "bear" porn suddenly started posting a lot of photos and gifs of Gaten Matarazzo because "he's so cute!" Like...you're not fooling anyone, we all know exactly what you're doing and why you're posting photos of a then-13/14 year old boy on your NSFW Tumblr.

I just kept running into this little boy jailbait porn, over and over again. It was so annoying!

The main problem is that geriatric porn normalizes cougar/MILF porn

And once the geriatric porn has moved you on to the harder drug of MILF porn, you fall down the rabbit hole of responsible adult porn

Then once the responsible adult porn no longer does it for you, it makes the 20-something porn seem more tantalizing

And once you've had your fill of the 20-something porn, you realize that you've been fully indoctrinated into the idea that barely-legal porn is ok

And the less said about where barely-legal leads, the better

Before long you've been normalized into watching microscope footage of sperms burying themselves face first into the ovum, and as you toss another load of crusty socks into the washer you start to get jonesin' for the geris again

They are boring, "functional" bodysuits or body armor, making them look completely dull compared to the male characters, who are allowed to have fantastical, out-there designs. I'd certainly prefer if they showed some booyah, but the women should be able to have both realistic, covered up designs and weird, slutty ninja outfits. Just like the guys.
This "functional" bullshit drove me up the wall on GAF.
People were bringing it up in Bayonetta threads, ffs.
Oh my God Bayonetta wears heels in battle! Nevermind the fact that she fucking flies and runs on walls, so probably a broken heel was not exactly a design concern during development.
2B jumping 300 meters and cutting a building-sized-crane-robot in two, with her magic Katana is fine, but landing on heels instead of comfy running shoes, is where i draw the line!

Meanwhile people in Dark Souls using scythes (you know, the farming tool) against full plated giant armored dragons wasn't anybody's concern, for some reason.

At this point it's just a meme bullet point people bring up without even thinking about it.
It's got nothing to do with "functionality", and all to do with sexual politics, and i don't even care if someone thinks nobody should ever be sexy, they can hold that opinion, but at least be honest about it.
Dark Souls did it right tho. It had cool women in full armor, and naked half-spider demon women.

But it's outright ridiculous they try to pull it off with Mortal Kombat, where being entertainingly childish and immature is the fun.

But shooting a guy who reaches for his waistband (if what the cop is claiming is true), after receiving a call like that is the opposite of being shit at your job.  That's what they're trained to do.  There are literally no options at that point.  And tbf, I'd be pissed at the cop too if this affected me.   Shitty situation.  That kid is truly a motherfucker.

Yeah, i have no issue with Dark Souls, i have issue with masking what is a socio-political position, under a "practicality" guise.
Practicality is a design choice that may or may not be relevant to the game's design rules.
So pointing out that heels aren't battle practical in Bayonetta is dumb, saying the same in Ghost Recon is not, but that is an argument that goes beyond sexual stuff: A big ass Berserk-like sword in Dark Souls makes (design) sense, in Kindome Come it'd look stupid and out of place.

But somehow this only came up when discussing sexy designs (on GAF and REE, that is).

TL;DR: If someone wants to make the argument that sexy designs are harmful, they should just say that, not try and justify that position with bullshit arguments about "functionality" or "practicality" of the design, when the game clearly isn't going for that vibe.

TBF, while I agree with you that practicality is often used in lieu of a societal argument, occasionally you do see realism-aiming games where the men are dressed practically and the women are not. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but over the years, I'm pretty sure I've seen some examples. But generally speaking, yeah, you're right that the practicality argument doesn't hold much water.

Vermillion, forgive them, for they know not what they do  :stahp

Nope, I know what I'm doing: Send nudes already, bb. If you're going to invite over posters that make the board more busy and terrible, I should at least get something from it. :doge

Let's dispel this fiction once and for all that TIMU doesn't know what he's doing. He knows exactly what he's doing; he's undergoing a systematic effort to change this forum and make Pogi send him dick pics.

TIMU liking everyone else's posts in retribution. A jealous lashing out.

It's okay, TIMU. If you get a RE account, I'll invite you, too.
