IDK about what that person was saying, but I get that there is sometimes use in making a broad argument about mass media. And other times, you might want to make a specific argument for specific reasons... Like that the that the New York Times has a history of supporting all sorts of military ventures. And all this is not to say that media in general is not useful. I'm not denying the possibility of EVER being able to extract useful information despite all sorts of confounding factors or even fundamental aspects of all different types of news mediums. We all have our own lenses to look at things.

I prefer your approach. You're targeting a specific outlet rather than just using "the media" as a boogeyman.

Good example. Colmes was on FNC to get shouted down by Hannity or other panelists. He didn't get his own show where he got to opine without being challenged or contradicted.

If the NYT had covered this via their news division or had their editorial board interview him like they did with the Dem presidential candidates (which produced this), they could have saved themselves all the backlash from their own staff.

I really hope he is OK. But this is the perfect storm of things to go wrong to send a message of police violence to every (white) American. An old white man, non-violent in broad daylight, 3 meters from any other protestor - may not even be a protestor really, just a curious lookie-loo - with 20 plus armed cops in sight. Gets pushed with a visible and instant traumatic head injury. An audible gasp and stop motion from the crowd. The cop who goes to help gets pushed forward by other cops to arrest another non-violent protestor. The cop is easily identifiable. And it was caught by a true news cameraman, not a cell phone.

And the Police are already admitting no wrongdoing and saying he just tripped.

I spent all of last year watching innocent people get shot in their own streets in other countries but it's completely different when it's your own government attacking your own people. It just makes you sick in a way you can't understand until it happens.
