I voted today. I'm a 33 year old, white criminal defense lawyer in southwest Kansas. The early voting is at the courthouse. I arrive to find 12 old white people occupying all the voting machines. I wait. A machine opens up. The 80 something white male who had been using the machine is now up at the front table asking if he can vote again. The lady running the table says "no, one person, one vote." He replies, "well, I just want to make sure we don't have some terrorist running the country."

This obviously catches my attention so I look at the old man. Our eyes meet. He points a bony finger at me and says, "Don't let it happen." Thinking this old man could one day kill someone and need my services, I don't say anything and proceed to vote.

As I'm leaving the voting room, the young black janitor is in the hallway in front of the room with his cleaning cart. "Did you do the right thing?" he asks me. "You know it." I say and we exchange a terrorist fist jab.

Obama's first task when he gets elected needs to be to reform the healthcare system... because, upon his victory, lots of old fogey conservatives are gonna have heart attacks.

Obama needs to raise this guy's taxes.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Merrill Lynch & Co's (MER.N) head of strategy will likely leave the bank with as much as $25 million in compensation, while three other top executives are set to stay at the firm once it combines with Bank of America Corp (BAC.N), according to media reports.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that Merrill's global strategy head, former Goldman Sachs executive Peter Kraus, will not stay on. Instead, he will pick up a paycheck worth $10 million to $25 million, the newspaper said.

Three other senior executives will be given positions at Bank of America, CNBC reported.

Greg Fleming, president and chief operating officer at Merrill, will be named head of corporate and investment banking, while Tom Montag, head of global sales and trading at Merrill, will take a similar role at Bank of America, according to CNBC.

Bob McCann, Merrill's vice chairman and president responsible for global wealth management, will head the wealth management business at Bank of America, the network said.

A Merrill Lynch spokeswoman was not immediately available for comment.

Shame on Bank of America/Merrill Lynch. Merrill Lynch went belly up. No. Golden. Parachutes.

Its a very Cheney-esque way of looking at the VP role. Whats funny is during the VP debate she thanked our founding fathers for creating a system where the VP has so much influence and its like uhhh, didnt you at least watch the HBO John Adams mini-series?

Cheney-esque in that she believes the VP gets to do shit aside from break tie votes in senate and wait as backup for Prez. Most VPs realize that at most they will be close council for the president.

The Republican National Committee appears to have spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August.

According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.

The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September.

The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August.

I thought that the VP essentially was in control of the Senate, but it was largely a ceremonial position and the pro-tempore did most of the actual legwork.

That doesn't strike you as fairly obviously sexist?  I would expect the budget for male candidates' wardrobe to be that high as well.  But when Palin spends that much, the implication is "Haha, just like a woman -- she went out and blew too much money on clothes!"

Also -- $4000 on makeup?  Lipstick for pigs sure is expensive!

Democrats' Gloom Deepens

http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20081022/pl_politico/14800

excerpt:

Quote
The McCain campaign cannot possibly be as hapless as it looks, party leaders feel. It is lulling the Democrats into complacency. The Republicans have to have an October surprise, because the Republicans always have an October surprise.

Besides, the robocalls could work. Never underestimate the power of the robocalls. Because people really like getting robocalls, right?

You are at home, it is dinnertime (which is when they call you because they figure you are at home then), and you are either trying to relax or get the kids fed, and the phone rings and it is this recorded voice saying: “I’m calling for John McCain and the RNC because you need to know that Barack Obama has worked with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers.”

And does that make you feel more or less positive about John McCain? Does it persuade you that McCain has a plan to save the economy? Or to help you pay your mortgage? Or that he has a steady hand on the tiller?

For the robocalls to be effective, the Republicans would need Bill Ayers to plant bombs today and not when Barack Obama was 8 years old. They need Ayers to plant bombs in key states right now with stickers on them that say: “I am Barack Obama, and I endorse this bomb.”

But McCain may have found his October surprise after all. In Bensalem, Pa., on Tuesday, McCain said: “Now, I’m not dumb enough to get mixed up in a World Series between swing states. But I think I may have detected a little pattern with Sen. Obama. It’s pretty simple, really. When he’s campaigning in Philadelphia, he roots for the Phillies, and when he’s campaigning in Tampa Bay, he ‘shows love’ to the Rays.”

And rumors are now flying that McCain has proof that when Obama was in the second grade he once ate paste.

Oh well, Obama/Biden had a nice run. Hillary, you're up in 2012.

Early voting favors republicans in Florida and Colorado right now. Not surprising I guess (lots of old people in Florida, and dems don't have a registration advantage over republicans in Colorado)

Colorado is going to go blue. Dunno about Florida, despite the positive polls so far

Well, it took me less than 24 hours to get banned from the Political Section of Rapture-Ready.  All my posts were deleted as well.  I thought I could skirt by as a compassionate Christian in favor of extending health care to the less fortunate, but I was immediately called a socialist, then a Marxist, then a communist.  My presumption was that mild dissent was okay so long as I wasn't combative, abrasive, or openly supportive of Obama.  Bad assumption :lol In retrospect I probably should not have engaged an admin in any discussion whatsoever, but oh well.  Anyone else hoping to post there should probably stay further under the radar.  They run a tight ship over there.

All in all, it was an interesting learning experience that I wish had gone on longer.  I didn't realize that all the "One World Government" quackery was so popular with mega-Christians.  Is such a thing predicted in Revelation?

I dunno why anyone is predicting stuff in this thread, we're all wrong most of the time.

Keep in mind that Chuck Todd has theorized that because of the Nevada Colorado situation even IF Obama loses both Ohio and Florida, he still wins. Even in his most generous projection McCain can only pull off a tie, and there's no way he's winning popular vote.
