People just need to put pitchforks away, all around. The ArenaNet woman screwed up in a way that could be fireable offense at a lot of companies, but she also didn't necessarily need to be fired. A reprimand would probably have been fine. But because there was a mob (not Gamergate before the firing, mind you, but a mob nonetheless), the company couldn't really afford to not fire her. But that mob didn't need to form. The attacked dude could have reported it to the company as an individual complaint, and the company could have handled it in a proportional way. But because thousands of people got offended on his behalf, firing her was the only reasonable solution.
Stop forming mobs, people. If someone wrongs someone else, let the wronged handle it. You don't need to rally behind that person like you were all attacked. Only that guy was.
