it puts the lie to every re4 fanhomo that says cumbersome controls add to the "immersion"I actually must admit, I like the controls quite a bit. My faith in the Japanese way may be wavering :japancry
who were the haters? was Prole?
<_<
>_>
I still maintain that this is not survivor horror...its a 3rd person shooter / adventure with horror atmosphere. That IS survival horror.
YOU GUYS
YOU ARE MAKING ME WANT TO BUY THIS
omg tech trees for yer weapons and exoskeleton omg

patel you will adore this game i swear
EA is the gamer's game company. :bow EA :bow2
Damn I can't wait to play this game but I'm going on vacation :'( I've been looking forward to it since the first video I saw. I'll save it for Halloween I guess 8)I'm playing the PS3 version. Seems... perfect? I dunno.
I'm actually strongly considering getting the PS3 version... :o
Has Dark10x gotten his hands on it yet?
There has been a pretty big push at ea to invest in new ips instead of relying on licensed properties to pay the bills. This is mostly diue to the absolute bath they took on Superman. Dead Space is the result of team almost being liquidated being able to hold on long enough for theis new thinking to come to fruition.(http://thatgirlkate.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/039_19583lorenzo-lamas-posters.jpg)
I am in love with this game. It's absolutely brilliant.
I'm still in shock that this is from EA, though. What the hell happened? It's like EA sloughed off their crappiness into the dumpster that Activision happened to be diving in.
hmm, this is evilbore
i predict a hatred turnaround for this game at three months

It's not like EA hasn't pushed out more than its fair share of original, high quality titles for a while now. Burnout, SSX started life in the previous generation. Black wasn't a huge success, but it was a new game, and a fairly unique one at that. Their games also tend to enjoy ample levels of polish, which becomes easier to appreciate with companies like Ubiglitch around.
It's a huge producer of games, though, so there is going to be some crap.
demi you were always consistent in your hatred, yes
i'm not gonna shit up the dead space thread anymore, but c'mon, this place is as flippity-floppity as any other game messageboard with the love/hate swing
i could dig up those old threads, but i have suddenly ceased to care

Im the opposite. Ill either:
A.) Hate that shit right away, and always hate that shit.
B.) Hate that shit right away, then buy it secretly in a moment of weakness and try to hide my shame by not mentioning it ever again.
Didn't EA just buy Burnout from someone else?

Developed by Criterion (now EA), published by EA. A bit like Battlefield, by DICE, which is now EA. Just saying, EA has been pushing pretty decent stuff, much of it pretty out there when compared to the nearest competitor, along with the crap for some time.
As for flip-flopping, I tend to end up sort of enjoying Tom Clancy games for what they are, but will always hate that they are what they are.
I may end up buying Bioshock PS3 despite having played the PC version. I want to keep that one in some games library. Bought COD4 on three platforms. :-[

You flipflopped big time on Gundam DW.

Try Chaos Theory on your PC again. New Nvidia drivers allow AA to be turned on in Shader 3.0 mode. The game still looks quite beautiful because of the shadow and lighting.

lol, youre probably going to better off with the PC version

Sold that. I really don't get much out of PC gaming these days. I upgraded specifically for Bioshock, so I got to play it at the highest settings. I could play it on my 360, but I'm not building a games library for a system that I'm reluctant to even power up because it's so fucking loud, and has such a headache inducing UI.
What's the word on Dead Space so far, what are the differences? EA has been pretty good with multi-platform games, where does this one land?
:bow EA :bow2
:piss Activision destroying Blizzard :piss2
Im not playing it more till this weekend. I cant handle OMG SHIT before bed cause it gets me all crazy, like after ive watched McCain for 90 minutes.
Holy shit this is FUCK SCARY. I'm not sure if I should play this at night.

Play on Hard, doods
Play on Hard, doodsHow difficult is it? I hate repeated dying in games, but I like having a healthy challenge.

Shit, you guys are hyping this so much that I'm thinking of picking it up and then getting the PC version later. Is the 360 version 60fps?Neither version is 60fps.
okay so
PS3 or 360? any head-to-head?
I tried to pick this up last night but no stores had it in that were still open. imma get it this afternoon, lemme know which version
I prefer the 360 controller, but the PS3 is much quieter, so that and shorter load times will probably get me to go with the triple version.
edit: though I bet it'll scale to 1080i more nicely on the 360 :-\
Do you know if you have to uncheck 720p? My (brother's) oldish TV scales, but it looks like ass. I'm gonna be checking and unchecking like crazy for stupid LBP :mafI prefer the 360 controller, but the PS3 is much quieter, so that and shorter load times will probably get me to go with the triple version.

It scales to 1080i natively on the PS3.
So is this a cool third person shooter or a gay fps?
bought it for PS3 - the load times and quieter console pushed me to the Sonybox

The one thing I'm confused about is how the bench takes money. It says points, but am I to believe that to upgrade part of your suit you need 100 nodes? The points are referencing the stats you are upgrading. Confused me at first as well. So when it says "HP Upgrade 125 points", it's saying that you will now have 125 hit points. The only resource you spend at the bench is power nodes.
oh, so basically each upgrade costs one power node? I should probably start upgrading stuff.Kind of. Each point on the grid costs a node. Sometimes you have to take an empty point to get to the upgrade you want.
I cant afford to buy this right now. Would it make a sweet rental for a week or so? Im into achievements so I'd want the full 1000 pointsI don't think you could get the full 1,000 in a week. I mean I guess you could, if you played a LOT. One of the trophies is maxing out the stats on every gun. On my first playthrough, where I'm pretty sure I snagged all or damn near all available nodes, including spending all of my cash at the end on extra nodes, I only managed to max one gun, with a couple others getting maybe halfway. There's like 8 available guns. I think you are probably looking at at least 3 playthroughs to max out every weapon.
I said fuck it to suit upgrades and equipped the free Obsidian suit DLC.
What are the stats on the DLC suit? Full inventory and 20% armor? Because those are the stats on the Level 5 suit, which is the best suit you can get before beating the game.I said fuck it to suit upgrades and equipped the free Obsidian suit DLC.
Bad idea. You can't remove the suit at all during the game, and the later suits are superior.
Full inventory and 10% armorAh, tsk tsk.

Yeah, the game is amazing, but I'm not finding it scary at all. What difficulty are you playing on? It is about 10 times scarier on hard because you are more fragile and ammo is more scarce.
And the sawblade in this is like the wrench in Bioshock. It completely destroys enemies, you have almost limitless amounts of ammo, and you don't even need to aim with it. My entire safe is filled with boxes of ammo if I ever need some, and I never do.

I died on the first monster, lol. It's hard to get a shot on the limbsBe sure to upgrade the plasma cutter ASAP. You also get an achievement for beating the game with only that item. :o
Is there really any reason to use power nodes to open some of the doors? I used one at the very beginning of the game and all I got inside was a gold semiconductor, which I only sold for $3,000 :-\Some locked rooms have an absolutely hilarious amount of stuff in them. I say yes, open them all.

I just found out that beating it on Hard doesnt give you the Epic achievement... theres a 4th difficulty you get when you beat it. Doy.Seriously? I have made it to level 4 on hard, but have been contemplating starting a new game because of the dlc armor that I equipped right away and apparently can't change. Whoever thought that would be a good idea should be sterilized
Oh well, will do Hard anyway
How do you beat that giant monster in Chapter 4? The hulk looking one. I must have shot it 70 times in the back...
Oh well, gives me a reason to take a break
I have all those. Last one I found was the force gun and then nothing for all these chapters.
Run
They should have really made the telekinesis (i know its not psychic but) abilities more useful against enemies. I was at the part where the girl is hacking the door for you and you get attacked, but I was out of Plasma Cutter ammo (cant use any other guns for achievement), and all I had left was a little tentacle baby on the wall. Couldnt do anything with my Stasis and Kinesis abilities. I should be able to take my Kinesis and slam them against the wall.
QuotePlay-Asia says my copy of this will ship on November 4th.
wtf? there were like a BILLION copies in HK last week

You can throw other body parts at the enemies.
The PC version is out already but Gamestop only had opened copies. Hopefully, BB will have it tomorrow. I don't want to use Direct2Drive.
This game was awesome. I honestly think that if this game was Resident Evil 5: Space reviewers would have given it scores in the high 9s. There are hardly any flaws to the game and it is a standout game. EA :bow2

How the hell does Gamestop only have "opened" copies of a brand new game?
Found it for $50 with free shipping :hyper hopefully that doesn't mean that it will be slow ass shipping. :gloomy
spoiler (click to show/hide)After Nicole attacked Issac, it cut back to him taking off his helmet, making it look like he was crazy as shit. Only this time the orange screen thing wasn't up(then it cut to the logo). When I originally saw it she attacked him then it cut to the logo.
I'm trying to figure out if the second one was a crafty edit, or if there's an extended ending. Because I honestly don't want him to die. Ive already made a connection with Issac and hit motives for going on the mission, so I'm not looking forward to playing as someone else in the sequel.[close]
Side note: is anyone planning on picking up the movie? I was considering it since I'm interested in experiencing the full story but I want impressions first.
Less than 10 hours
spoiler (click to show/hide)Is that saw thing in the game? That looked pretty fucking sweet(though very dangerous). Oh and is Irons suspected of being the regenerator or was there someone else?[close]
Holy crap this game is bonkers good. I've just hit 11 hours and chapter 5 and I'm loving every second of it. My GOTY thus far by a mile.
In a sea of relative perfection, I agree the map could be improved by just allowing you to move it rather than pivot around a central point. During Chapter 4 it wasn't even centred on me the majority of the time.
But it's a tiny thing.
I love the atmosphere of survival horror games so my playthroughs are usually a lot longer than everyone else. I walk pretty much everywhere rather than run, look around a lot, backtrack to savepoints frequently to stow my newly found stuff and so on.
Yeah, I've got a boatload of medpacks and stasis recharge items stored that I intend to sell at the end of the first playthrough. I'm also skipping the third rig (and maybe fourth) in order to save the credits to buy power nodes instead. So I don't have a lot of inventory slots.
I've been selling all ammo except plasma until now, but I'm thinking maybe I should keep some ammo for the second playthrough when I'm getting the 30 kills with each gun achievement.
It's done really well on reviews - the majority are above 9 I believe, although there's a couple of lower ones I've read where the game didn't click with them.
Nothing against RE, but as someone else said, if this were called RE:Outer Space it'd be all in the high 9s.
arg, chapter 9. where am i supposed to stand behind these movable things to avoid getting caught on fire? sometimes when i think i'm safe, i'm not, and when i think i'm burnt, i'm safe. doesn't make any sense, and i'm sick of replaying this.
The game borrows liberally from Resident Evil 4, and it does it with little or no shame. Which is awesome because re4 is such a fucking good game that every console game should borrow from it.
Alright, so the game only gets more atmospheric, but what the fuck is up withspoiler (click to show/hide)the asteroid shooting? Felt like fucking Star Fox, or any token "shoot the things from this platform" shit mission in a platformer. Totally not in tone with anything else I've encountered.[close]
Just Started it. Its good, nut in no way is it scary.

You'll know
dont use the elite suit. you dont have it equipped by default, you have to buy it.
dont use the elite suit. you dont have it equipped by default, you have to buy it.
It was free on Xbox Marketplace, but apparently I'll have to stick with whatever suit I choose to buy in-game, right? It sounds like a pretty decent suit, no?
Woo, finished the third level. I have been playing for about 5.5 hours now - screw all you speed gamers :lol
You don't really 'upgrade' suits, you just get access to new suits throughout the game. You can only move to better suits, you can't move back once you've bought a new, better suit.
The game views the Elite as equal to the best suit you can get in-game, hence you can't buy any in-game suits once you've got the Elite. I guess it's a difficulty balancing issue - if you play with the Elite, the game is easier at the start compared to using in-game suits, but harder at the end.
Yeah, I went with the theory that I'd rather not have the necromorphs touch me in the first place, so I spent my cash on upgrading my plasma gun and stasis in priority to upgrading my suit or its health.
In going for the "max out everything" achievement I'll be able to get that sooner on my second playthrough on hard with the cash I saved not buying the Level 3 and 4 suits. Then I can move on to an impossible playthrough sooner.
But in Chapter 10 they start to hit really hard, so I bought the Level 5 suit. It becomes available around that time anyway.
YES! The asteroids have been owned by me.
That's enough Dead Space for tonight :-[
Finished last night. Good game, not great. Last level was a snoozer.
X-Com UFO Defense, Yoshi's Island, Ultima V etc. I love a lot of games, and Deadspace is definitely one of the best I have played this year. There was just some flat moments, and the mechanic of the last level was a big letdown. Last boss was awesome, if super easy. I actually enjoy games more when I criticize them, gives me a moment to figure out which parts I loved.
I'm liking this game so far (at Chapter 4) but the part where you have to shoot the asteroids I can't get past. I fucking hate it!
Oh :lol
I never noticed because I am using the cheat :-\
Are any of the doors worth opening? I remember cracking one open, getting like two things of plasma cutter ammo and two things of pulse rifle ammo, and being really pissed off.
Maybe you just suck, Eric
It's fairly long by current linear action game standards.
beat it
fun awesome last boss
i liked the game. i just don't think it's as good as many would claim it to be
if re5 isn't the better game of the two i'll probably cry

Pay up bitch.
Seriously, the whole fucking game is a fetch quest.
Get the fuck outta here, RE5 is better than Dead Space.Word up, and i loved dead space.
It's an 86 or so on Metacritic, didn't get any real awards recognition and sold a paltry million or so copies. Hardly the qualifier for overrated, unless you can't stand that (as Bildi so eloquently put it) it outdid Resident Evil at its own game.
I really liked both Dead Space and RE5...I'm a monster!
Yeah, in fairness any survival horror game that requires co-op to be awesome is automatically disqualified as being the best survival horror ever.
Which leaves Dead Space and RE4 to duke it out.
dead space just isn't as good as re5. now use some coping skills and deal with it
Cohen, I dare you to play Resident Evil 5 and disagree. If you do, its no wonder why all your Petz titles are so awful.i'm playing it, has its problems, JUST LIKE DEADSPACE.
How is the PC version of Dead Space?
Honestly, between KZ2/GTA IV and RE5 reviews, there is a growing suspicion in my mind that journos don't even play the games they review anymore. I don't want to start a duckman flamewar or anything so I am not going to comment on KZ2 suffice it to say that I did not care for it, but RE5 has been vastly underrated by most reviewers.
That's a very nthing thing for you to do, willco, falling back on "bububu the critics!!!"seriously
