i just hope one meltdown inducing announcement is made this week
Getting year old games? THAT'S SONY'S FORTE!
I thought MGS4 was supposed to be the best game on PS3 (allegedly)? If it does end up on the 360, shouldn't they be really happy about that? It's like if PS3 got Halo.
Getting year old games? THAT'S SONY'S FORTE!
i didn't see Sony parading Bioshock PS3 port at E3 08 in their conference. and I doubt they'll do much for the NGII port either. that's the point. MS will probably walk it out and point and laugh like a bunch of snot nosed 12 year olds.
Xfags don't want MGS4 on the 360 to play it, they just want it so they can laugh at sony.
any blogs that will be giving updates? Cant watch live feeds at work.

The big news is Microsoft’s surprise guest who will kick off the conference. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but I will say the guest musical in nature – and is likely to “Help!” demo a hotly anticipated game from Harmonix.

pathetic.
Can't you just direct-download it from like IGN, Gametrailers, Gamespot like an hour or so after?

this conference does have a superficial Sony feel to it.

You guys really think that Milo thing is real?
This is Peter Molyneux
I don't understand the Twitter and Facebook additions.
Doesn't the X360 have a webbrowser?
A+ conference for laugh factor
-showed a ton of awesome games
-owned non-game stuff on consoles with netflix and 1080p streaming
-owned PS3 even more with next MGS on 360
-owned Wii with xaggle, potentially
-facebook and twitter shit that people will eat up
-created skynet, judgment day, etc
-joke against the Wii
-constantly knocked Gran Turismo 5
It was awesome. My sides hurt from laughing so hard.
The only thing that brought it down is that we will eventually all die because of what we've seen today, other than that, A++++++
where the fuck did you see that? it looked exactly like alone in the dark. no atmosphere whatsoever, he just shot things and lit flares in SLOW MOTION.
Alan Wake looks like the best parts of Resident Evil 4 and Silent Hill and Max Payne......can't wait to see better quality footage.
So they got the next Metal Gear
Nice.
conference sounded fun then
Metal Gear Solid: Raiden - SOOOOOOOO GOOD, owning sfags left & right
I wonder what happens if you show Milo a picture of you looking at a TV with Milo on it.goatse.
Probably kill himself.
So which of these games were confirmed for 2009?
Metal Gear Solid: Raiden - SOOOOOOOO GOOD, owning sfags left & right
PS3 still gets it, because if it were 360 exclusive they would've been going on an on about that fact. Also, this should finally put the MGS4 for 360 rumors to rest.

yeah, Alan Wake looked pretty boring. They should have picked a more exciting section to demo.

BTW, what happened with that EYEtoy app with the monkey thing? That looked awesome.
So wait. Is the Raiden game exclusive? Is it the same was the game coming to PS3 as well? Because that isn't MGS5. :\

If this game were exclusive, Microsoft would STILL be going on about that fact. Multiplatform, and I wouldn't be surprised with a PC version.
Also, it's called Lightning Bolt Action, it's not Tactical Espionage Action anymore....
Hilarious if it's three exclusive games. Big Boss adventures on PSP ( :hyper), MGS5 on PS3 ( :hyper) and shitty Ninja Raiden adventures on 360 ( :-\)

According to a Seattle Times blog entry
"Prices and timing weren't available, but it won't be available until 2010 at the earliest and will probably cost around $200. Microsoft has already given game developers tools to start building games that uses the device."
:lol :lol
Yup Wii killer alright.
fistfull is so butthurt, I love it.
Tomorrow is going to be hilarious. If Nintendo is lucky, they didn't plan the show around motion plus. If Sony is lucky, well, they aren't.

6:30 pm pst Ubisoft Press Conference -- Ubisoft always goes big at E3.
yep

Sony has had so many incredible/weird prototypes that you'd think they would have something ready to show if they wanted to show it. It is a cutting edge tech company, after all. We'll see tomorrow, but I sort of hope we don't see any more waggle/motion crap for a while. Games, and preferably ones coming out this year.

Realistically, this xaggle thing is what everyone expects when it comes to motion controls. Nothing short of an exact copy would top it.
The only way they can do a wii-like controller without seeming inferior is if they tried to advance the IR and not the waggle.
So far, a pretty awesome day for the gaming future IMO. :pimpexcept like no one is going to spend $200 on natal. It'll be forgotten very quickly.
Apparently the same tech was demoed at CES last year for a lot cheaper. Maybe it'll even be bundled with new 360's?According to a Seattle Times blog entrySeparate from the 360, so to get both you'd pay like $400? Brilliant..

SPeculation FTL. Let's wait on the deets before making conclusions. But I'll definatly buy it if some good stuff is bundled with it. Plus the dashboard navigation alone is worth it for my kids to not have to rely on me to get them where they want to be.
Plus, game shows man.

Will Natal sell a lot? I dunno... but what I do know is that it slaughters "waggle".I agree that it does seem to slaughter waggle and I would rather have this over waggle, but that is like saying that I would rather have AIDs than the plague :-\
People are living long lives with AIDS.
The plague? Not so much...
l4d2 just looks like a mod
plus the daytime setting kills part of the tension
The game will make use of AI Director 2.0, which Valve says will take the game's dynamic gameplay to the next level. That means the ability to procedurally change weather, world objects and pathways and "tailoring" enemy population, effects and sound.

changing pathways sounds pretty neat - "hey, this alley wasn't blocked off last time! we're fucked!"
but what I do know is that it slaughters "waggle".
Does it, though? At least with the Wiimote you have some physical feedback, with Netal you have to go off visuals alone. I can see it working for certain types of games [like Boom Blox], but I just don't see how it can work with something complex like an FPS or anything really fast-paced. And I see there being a much bigger problem with motions not registering properly, moreso than with the Wii, particularly in something fast-paced.
Will Natal sell a lot? I dunno... but what I do know is that it slaughters "waggle".I don't think so, using an accelerometer or a video camera for something like (competitive) driving, sports, or fighting games feels very clunky and is ALWAYS inaccurate. Especially if you're going for 1:1 recognition. That's why Wiimotes needed the IR sensors for everything other than broad, basic movements. Personally, I play a lot of FPS games on 360 but I still can aim a wiimote more accurately.

In regards to FPS... I'd much rather use a regular controller like the 360's or a mouse over the Wii remote, and I'm sure most of you feel the same way.

Also, the only real advantage of Natal gaming-wise is over waggle that it can detect individual limbs. But you have just your limbs to control with, no buttons.Uh, did you even watch the Natal segment? That's hardly the "only real advantage".

Relatively speaking, you probably have a lot more storage space for physical games as well. A few shelves can hold dozens of 360 games. The 360 hard drive can hold...1 game, maybe. Even with the 120gb hard drive you're looking at what 12-14 games at best?

Yeah, exactly. How is natal going to slaughter wii again?
Can someone explain how at all Microsoft expects wii moms and their ilk who actually are the ones scared of fancy controllers to buy a 360 and spend $200 for a natal? if you can't explain that than this "slaughtering" wii stuff is a joke.
Natal...is basically just EyeToy: Awesomer
Well, it was one of the few things presented live that went beyond eyetoy mini-games of swatting shit onscreen. They still have time to tighten things up though, or at least understand how to work within it's limitations(http://i40.tinypic.com/zvzcxi.gif)
Yeah, let's ignore the entirety of the presentation and just harp on two seconds of it that went wrong.

Wasn't this said like 10 times over the MS conference? It's a new MGS game (without Solid Snake) exclusive for 360.

1. I'm assuming you're referring to my post with the "slaughtering" quote, so I ask you to read it again. I didn't say it would slaughter the Wii on a sale-front.
2. The $200 number is complete speculation by the Seattle Times author that barely literate clowns like yourself latched onto without any attempt to read the source of the claim.
3. Waggle slaughtered
Nintendo also knew that in order to sell their concept of motion-control, they would have to take a risk and create a completely brand new system separate from the Gamecube, otherwise hardly anyone would buy a peripheral that doesn't even fit in with any of the already existing games on the system.
Microsoft (and Sony if they do it) should've waited for the next generation to introduce this.
Microsoft already did something similar with new xbox dash, so why not this?

Um, is Xbox dash referring to the free upgrade dashboard? You're not that stupid are you? It has no relevance to releasing a product. And once again, this isn't a redesign of a product. It's an entire new product. And its a peripheral. That's the only word you need to know with regards to this. Will this sell more XBox's? No. Will this run the Wii off the market or cut into its sales? No. Will it maybe be a niche product and compete along the lines of other similar peripherals? Sure. If that's the standard of success to sell a niche amount of products, and maybe test the technology out for future endeavors at the cost of profit and R&D costs, then fine. That bar of success is not too low. Anything else is laughable though.
2010 :lol

ok
I haven't seen the footage of Alan Wake. Have to go check it out.you're better off that way--it's easier to keep the hype alive.
Microsoft debuted the first details on Metal Gear Solid Rising at their E3 press conference this morning, but there's a reason Microsoft wasn't bragging about this Raiden-starring adventure being an Xbox 360 exclusive -- it isn't.
"You know, we didn't say that it was exclusive," clarified Xbox executive and corporate VP John Schappert (he was the guy hosting most of the event) during an interview with me immediately following the press conference.
"We said that the next Metal Gear will be coming [to Xbox 360]," he said.
"I couldn't be more excited about him [Kojima] working on that [Metal Gear Solid Rising] and having that be part of our show," said Schappert. "When I heard about that, I was pretty ecstatic and it was an honor to be able to be on stage with him and announcing his next Metal Gear, which will be on Xbox 360."

Ah, the advantage of being the first to hold a conference. You can sway people into believing that some games are exclusives while giving already announced multiplats the impression of belonging more to your platform.
Spin spin spin.

There's no reason to be hyped for Natal until there is some MUST HAVE software. It doesn't even have to be gaming related, but any games that are released for it better not be like the Wii _____ rehashed bullshit for the casuals. Until I see a lot of useful software and a decent price point, there's no real reason to be excited.
Is there an actual reason why Wii fans on gaf are hating on this thing so much? I can't really wrap my head around that one
I really like the concept of Natal, using it to navigate the NXE and play videos alone is worth it.
And let's not forget Milo! TVC will have a blast with that poor boy.
Is there an actual reason why Wii fans on gaf are hating on this thing so much? I can't really wrap my head around that one
Seriously, the potential of this thing is unimaginable! Peter sold me on it.
SCAN BEARD
scan flannel Girl.
scan Slave Girl.
Scan a pair of balls

Uhh, the breakout ball girl was live.
Breakout girl was embarrassing as well, sorry Chow.
Like I said before, I'm not that interested in devs approaching Natal the same way they're approaching Wii waggle. I want more concepts in the vein of Peter's presentation, not just Milo because I'm sure there's enough room for a more imaginative concept.
I'm not sure what your point is. I was responding to you saying "the only thing shown with it live spazzing was funny" comment. That's not true. The breakout ball girl was live.
The tech behind is amazing with its full 3D motion allowing depth movement in a real 3D plane.
I'm telling you, it's a great concept built for an HD capable system. I'm sold!
Breakout girl was embarrassing as well, sorry Chow.

I mean, I have little to no interest in motion controls and will quit gaming if next-gen's control method is almost entirely focused on motion controls.
The wiimote is at least fucking tangible, something I can hold onto.
i am guessing this tech can be combined with the use of a regular 360 controller in a multitude of ways
there's your tangible
So, uh, did microsoft shut down RARE?
you mean the girl who flailed around like she was playing a first generation wii shovelware title
I'm sorry, that post wasn't a reply to anyone lol, but I'll explain in case you haven't seen the whole MS conference.
Natal is of course the newly announced motion capture camera by MS.
Milo (a boy) is a proof of concept that Peter Molyneux used to show off some of his ideas for technology.
SCAN BEARD is something TeknoRobby was yelling when a bearded guy from the dev came to demonstrate Natal (which uses a "SCAN" voice command to scan several things, like your body) lol.
The wiimote is at least fucking tangible, something I can hold onto.
You can hold onto your 3-inch cock.
you mean the girl who flailed around like she was playing a first generation wii shovelware title
you act as though wii games have ever moved beyond that stage
Milo is the worst thing I've ever seen in a video game
fake pets weren't bad, but fake humans are dreadful
Come on! the bit where she drew something on paper and handed it to him where he then identified the shapes were impressive, then there's the bit where he asked the woman to come closer to the lake to catch some fish. I was impressed by the reflection part as well. It could all be scripted of course, but still.
Edit: Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean I don't find him, or the fact that it's the first thing Peter chose to show off (along with kids' photos hanged on the wall behind him lol) was CREEPY AS HELL.
There is just something so incredibly wrong about having a virtual boy you interact with.

That's a pretty creepy statement, dude.
You're all severely damaged and creepy individuals
DUDE!
Out of ALL the things he could've thought of, a boy? Why not a grown up?
And where are Milo's PARENTS? Why are they letting me talk to him and telling him to do his home work?
AGAIN CREEPY!

species, gender or age really doesn't matter to me.
:heartbeat nothing gets in da way of ~tru luv~ :heartbeat
The whole thing creeps me out, but the species, gender or age really doesn't matter to me. I think the whole concept of having controllable companions is messed up (and about as good for the evolution of our species as this thing with always having the choice of what we watch or experience at all times), but that goes for any entity that is presented as being sentient.
There's a big difference between "Hey, here's a pet like your kids always wanted, the fun part is that he won't mess your place" and "Hey, here's a boy/friend/child like you always wanted".
I love Milo and I also love having raunchy relations with young boys of Milo's age so it suits me perfectly. I am a pedophile.
Crushed, I want to blow my monster load inside of you and then watch it dribble down your thigh as you rush to the bathroom to clean-up.
I've bought pets before, both real and virtual, but I never bough boys.
because unlike the wii it's actually good technology. plus it's new so theres no software so they have to pick on the obvious tech demos
i dont recall ever saying it's a wii killer, i just said the technology is better.
i dont recall ever saying it's a wii killer, i just said the technology is better.
I won't disagree with that, but its almost apples and oranges. It's a camera, not a controller.
I've bought pets before, both real and virtual, but I never bough boys.
I thought that was legal over there.
:shh I was just trying to blend in with you folks and act civilized.
Milo is gonna be a hit here!
I'm just really skeptical of how responsive a camera like this can ultimately be. Especially a multiplayer game where it has to interpret multiple bodies. Menu navigation looks pretty sweet, but I dont want to be holding my arms out in midair to play a racing game. At least with the Wii I have other effortless inputs to complement the waggle, but it seems the cam is practically limited to body+voice recognition. I'd love a warioware game like this for sure (no not snapped). Nintendo should steal this for Wii 2 :].
the biggest skeptics itt all own wiisWell that does mean that we've seen proof that a new "intuitive" way to give inputs doesn't mean SHIT unless there's software to support it. None of the demos they showed, even the one where they controlled the NXE, had enough substance to them to make me drool over this and preorder it and I bet most people here think the same.
hmmmm
Funny how we got to see Gran Turismo concepts and a demo from way back when Forza 2 was released and now Forza 3 is coming around the corner.
What Nintendo tried (AND FAILED) to do by making the wiimote the standard controller on the wii was to force every developer to think about unique gaming concepts. You don't need to own a wii to know how bad that failed. It's been a few years and I can count the number of great Wii games I like on one hand.
That would be like judging a whore by how many guys she fucked.
What I take from Natal (Nadal? whatever) is that it takes the worst part of the Wii and makes it potentially interesting, but it ignored the good part of the Wii (IR). I mean, Microsoft is pushing this "no controller" thing so much that they haven't considered games where characters, you know, move around. Maybe we will walk in place or something.
Come on! the bit where she drew something on paper and handed it to him where he then identified the shapes were impressive, then there's the bit where he asked the woman to come closer to the lake to catch some fish. IGN had some hands-on impressions of Natal after spending some time with it, they weren't of Milo, but two other demos that MS had for journalists:Quote
To say that I'm anxious to see where Microsoft, and it's horde of third party developers, takes his next is an understatement.[/b]

anxious = eager
it's = its
his = this
and = along with (if he wants to modify the singular "Microsoft" and keep the singular verb "takes)
And The subject of that sentence is 19 fuckin' words long, a length that can be reduced to one letter!

Many people use "anxious" interchangeably with "eager," but that doesn't mean they're correct. "Anxious" suggests worry and nervousness. The meaning of the word is clear and distinct, and it's only obscured by using it as a synonym for "eager."
If there were two people waiting to give a presentation, one nervous and the other enthusiastic, how would you finish the following sentence?
John was anxious before the presentation, but Tom was very anxious. Wouldn't the sentence be more clear if we replaced the second "anxious" with "eager" or "enthusiastic"?

you wouldn't use anxious twice in that sentence because it wouldn't work there. I was just pointing out that his usage of anxious there wasn't wrong if he was feeling that way. Then again, the sentence leading up to that could have been really positive causing a disconnect, but I will never willing read something IGN wrote unless it was a short blurb.

You're making my point for me: you have to read the preceding material to understand what he meant, a problem that wouldn't exist if he used "eager" or "enthusiastic." The journalist is clearly enthusiastic about Natal, while Microsoft's competitors might be anxious.

Well? Someone better start working on that porn game. You have Peter's support.
It's more impressive to me how Milo can recognize shapes and can say a few "dynamic" conversations but what exactly is Milo? Is it a game or a character in a game or what?

Other Kitase tidbits include the fact that the Xbox 360 version is really, really early in development. He said that up until the Japanese demo, the efforts have been on the PlayStation 3 only. He gave a non-answer when asked about downloadable content, saying only that DLC is being considered. Considering his concern for gamers without hard drives, I wouldn't expect much (if the decision is up to him...which it might not be).
It was probably running on a PC and lol at the xbot damage control. :lol :lol :lol
Joy Ride looks a lot like Track Mania.
who cares about this stuffBecause if they couldn't get it running in two months than they can't get it running in two years. Seriously though, wasn't the "white engine" designed for both the 360 and PS3?
why would it bother anyone that a game was being shown on another system when it's still coming to the one you own

I like how that site acts like they're doing some big expose of a dark secret when Molyneux was pretty upfront about the limitations of what they're doing. The voice recognition tech just uses the same libraries that are in Windows 7.

"Science Fiction writers, film makers, they havent imagined what we are able to do today."
"What happened there is that Claire KNEW Milo so well, that she KNEW he was worried about something. The head was down, he wasnt looking at the camera so much... this is about you meeting a character, a person."
"This is true technology that Science Fiction hasnt even written about. And this works... today... now."
"What we've chosen to do with this technology is... create an experience where I believe you can meet a real character, that understands you, that understands your voices, your emotions, that is fascinated about your life."

Typical Molyneux Hyperbole?
I think people should know this by now.
Molyneux never delivers on anything ever.
Eurogamer: I'm trying to understand how much of this comes from Lionhead and how much comes from Microsoft...
Peter Molyneux: A lot of stuff, like the voice recognition stuff, is based on things like Windows 7 technology. We just went round and took all that stuff and fitted it together. The interesting thing is, a lot of that stuff existed without reason - and when you bring it all together with something like this, it kind of works.
Eurogamer: So what can Milo do?
Peter Molyneux: Milo can recognise the emotions on your face and the emotions in your voice. He can recognise certain words you say. You can have conversations with him, you can read stories to him. We're trying to bring all these things together. Some of them are tricks - I'll be absolutely honest with you - to make you believe Milo's real.
Eurogamer: You said he only understands certain words. So presumably you can't have a conversation about the situation in Palestine?
Peter Molyneux: The number of words he understands is built up over time. For Claire [the lady who demoed a conversation with Milo during Microsoft's conference], it's something like 500 words.
But we haven't cracked the real problem, which is him understanding the meaning of it all. He'll give you the illusion he does that. The interesting thing is you can only talk to him when the Talk icon appears at the bottom of the screen. That's when he's listening to you; the rest of the time, he's not. He's listening to you because there's a context in which you can talk to him.
One of the journalists who came in before you had obviously read up on the Turing test. He asked Milo one of the questions in the test - 'Do you remember when we met yesterday?' Well, of course, we haven't cracked the Turing test. If we had, then applying it to a computer game would be the last of the solutions we'd use it for.
And Molyneux told the entire fucking world this in an interview on June 2.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/e3-project-natals-molyneux-and-milo-interview (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/e3-project-natals-molyneux-and-milo-interview)
He lays it out that it's a combination of things to make you BELIEVE that he's real. The only smoke a mirrors here are the ones the gametrailers guy wants you to believe are there.
And anyone who believes saggle and xaggle will ever be used for anything more than a gimmick is delusional. Xaggle will be use for stuff like milo or that brick breaking game, but don't count on IW using it in mW2 or whatever.
