i dont recall ever saying it's a wii killer, i just said the technology is better.

I won't disagree with that, but its almost apples and oranges. It's a camera, not a controller.

I like you.

I'm just really skeptical of how responsive a camera like this can ultimately be.  Especially a multiplayer game where it has to interpret multiple bodies.  Menu navigation looks pretty sweet, but I dont want to be holding my arms out in midair to play a racing game.  At least with the Wii I have other effortless inputs to complement the waggle, but it seems the cam is practically limited to body+voice recognition.  I'd love a warioware game like this for sure (no not snapped).  Nintendo should steal this for Wii 2 :].

Just got done watching the conference and was surprised at how well done it was - MS hardly ever seems to have a good show, imo.  I was also surprised that fucking Forza 3 of all things had my attention.  I don't know which god Turn 10 sacrificed a virgin to but it worked.  Pretty amazing jump from Forza 2 to Forza 3 and that video editor looked like all sorts of awesome.  The Project Natal stuff can kiss my ass - I don't want that - but everything else from Modern Warfare 2 to Shadow Complex to Alan Wake all looked great, imo.

Forza 2 was a snooze-fest but I too am a little interested in Forza 3.  The visuals are indeed a pretty massive jump from the embarrassingly ordinary Forza 2.

Forza 2 to Forza 3 honestly seems like an Xbox 1 to Xbox 360 size jump to me.  I wasn't expecting Forza 3 to look that good considering how plain 2 looked, but it is probably the best looking racing game yet.  But I don't doubt that GT5 could look better, even if the Forza games always do play better.

If the pre-filmed video is to be believed, which I don't think it should be yet, the smallest type of detection it can make it whether you hand is open or closed.  I would be surprised if it can pick apart individual fingers.

Funny how we got to see Gran Turismo concepts and a demo from way back when Forza 2 was released and now Forza 3 is coming around the corner.

the biggest skeptics itt all own wiis

hmmmm
Well that does mean that we've seen proof that a new "intuitive" way to give inputs doesn't mean SHIT unless there's software to support it.  None of the demos they showed, even the one where they controlled the NXE, had enough substance to them to make me drool over this and preorder it and I bet most people here think the same.

What Nintendo tried (AND FAILED) to do by making the wiimote the standard controller on the wii was to force every developer to think about unique gaming concepts.  You don't need to own a wii to know how bad that failed.  It's been a few years and I can count the number of great Wii games I like on one hand.

What guarantee is there that any developer will give a morsel of shit about Natal?

And seeing how far Forza 3 has come, Polyphony Digital is going to have to really pull something out of their ass to make GT 5 something other than a day late and a dollar short.

I still thought the Forza 3 screens looked a bit flat and lifeless in the environments, but still an improvement.  Lighting on the vehicles is so much better it's not funny though.

What I take from Natal (Nadal? whatever) is that it takes the worst part of the Wii and makes it potentially interesting, but it ignored the good part of the Wii (IR).  I mean, Microsoft is pushing this "no controller" thing so much that they haven't considered games where characters, you know, move around.  Maybe we will walk in place or something.

Someone elsewhere suggested using gestures for movement.....like push your left hand forward to move forward, pull it back to back pedal, etc.  The problem is that I don't really want to play a game where my hand has to be stretched out in front of me for potentially hours at a time.  It's okay for arcade gun shooters that you won't play for more than an hour at a time, but you'd get sick of it pretty quick for long sessions.

Come on! the bit where she drew something on paper and handed it to him where he then identified the shapes were impressive, then there's the bit where he asked the woman to come closer to the lake to catch some fish. I was impressed by the reflection part as well. It could all be scripted of course, but still.

I'm not suggesting outright, premeditated deception, but there's probably a reason that demo was prerecorded and edited, rather than live.

As swaggaz said, the pointer is the best thing about the Wii and Microsoft totally missed it.

Admittedly, soccer moms will no doubt be thrilled with Natal so MS have probably achieved their goal.

They claimed that they would be demo'ing Milo for journalists behind closed doors, so it should be interesting to see how things there differed.  Though even in that setting I won't be convinced unless it's something they let journalists play and mess around with.  If it's just another scripted demo where they do a few things that they know will work, then it obviously wouldn't be as compelling.

IGN had some hands-on impressions of Natal after spending some time with it, they weren't of Milo, but two other demos that MS had for journalists:

To say that I'm anxious to see where Microsoft, and it's horde of third party developers, takes his next is an understatement.[/b]

anxious = eager
it's = its
his = this

And The subject of that sentence is 19 fuckin' words long, a length that can be reduced to one letter!

I'm very eager to see where Microsoft, along with its many third party developers, takes this technology.

I'm not going to lie: I don't like Natal at all.

As far as tech quirkiness goes, it does the job, but I could definitely see it being something that you do for a few minutes and then get tired of it.  Maybe little kids will get more mileage out of it but even then, if this is planned to be a Wii killer, I don't think it is going to come close.  I'm going to feel pretty awkward moving my body around to imitate a steering wheel.  I also don't see soccer moms and grandmas buying this en masse like the Wii.

Metal Gear Solid game will be multiplatform but that is another huge franchise that was once Sony exclusive (I'm not going to count the lol worthy Twin Snakes or the forgettable MGS2 port on Xbox), that franchise where fanboys were claiming that 360 sales would grind to a halt because the PS3 + MGS was the real deal.  The only two big things Sony has that won't go to the 360 are Gran Turismo and God of War.  How the mighty have fallen.

Forza 3 IMO was the real surprise.  It has come a long way since the 2nd.  I don't like the idea of buying games at full price but this might be an exception.  I hope GT5 is there in top form tomorrow because otherwise, people are going to start dogging it.

Anxious can also be a synonym of apprehensive/worried.

Many people use "anxious" interchangeably with "eager," but that doesn't mean they're correct. "Anxious" suggests worry and nervousness. The meaning of the word is clear and distinct, and it's only obscured by using it as a synonym for "eager."

If there were two people waiting to give a presentation, one nervous and the other enthusiastic, how would you finish the following sentence?
John was anxious before the presentation, but Tom was very anxious. Wouldn't the sentence be more clear if we replaced the second "anxious" with "eager" or "enthusiastic"?

you wouldn't use anxious twice in that sentence because it wouldn't work there.  I was just pointing out that his usage of anxious there wasn't wrong if he was feeling that way.  Then again, the sentence leading up to that could have been really positive causing a disconnect, but I will never willing read something IGN wrote unless it was a short blurb.

You're making my point for me: you have to read the preceding material to understand what he meant, a problem that wouldn't exist if he used "eager" or "enthusiastic."  The journalist is clearly enthusiastic about Natal, while Microsoft's competitors might be anxious.

Well? Someone better start working on that porn game. You have Peter's support.
What's the big deal?  Hasn't voice tone recognition software been around forever?

It's more impressive to me how Milo can recognize shapes and can say a few "dynamic" conversations but what exactly is Milo?  Is it a game or a character in a game or what?

I don't think they'd get Lionhead to program it and then have Moleyneux talk about it this much if they didn't plan to sell it or at least include it as part of the next update or something.
