Gentlemen, start your system wars! Sega announced today a final availability date for its promised Bayonetta demo. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners will have access to the download on October 8.
Sega says that the PS3 and Xbox 360 demos will offer different stages. The actual content list provided by Sega, however, suggests that the only difference is an extra stage for 360 owners.
The PS3 demo, clocking in at 1,196MB, will include a tutorial and The Angel's Metropolis stage. The Xbox 360 demo, at 770MB, will include the tutorial, The Angel's Metropolis stage, and the Falling Clock Tower prologue stage.
Both demos will provide options for camera, sound and display adjustments.
Nut up and go buy a new 360.
The 360 demo has more content, yet is smaller by nearly 400mb. How the hell does that work?
where is the talk of the clocktower stage running like shit on ps3 coming from?
More like Sega is a piece of shit.Sure, it's Sega's fault.
More like Sega is a piece of shit.Sure, it's Sega's fault.
You know they've been making games for like 30 years? If anyone could get code humming on the Piece of Shit 3, it would be Sega.
Wish my 360 wasn't broken, wish my first taste of the best action game of all time wasn't with the inferior version but alas that's life.

found it.
Even sprks, who wrote the originally 1up article that got everyone droned in line about the ps3 version sucking back tracked on his statements, ultimately saying he's still going to buy the ps3 version. If the man who fucking played both versions still says he wants to get the ps3 version over the 360 version, that should tell you something.
While the 360 version on display looked crisp and smooth, the PS3 version was very blurry and the framerate was all over the place. During one portion of the demo, a crazy scene where you are jumping off of falling parts of a giant clock tower, it was often hard to keep track of the action because of the graphical issues on PS3.
The kicker, and perhaps most ironic part of any of the console-war hubbub around all this: I personally plan on buying the PS3 version. Even if none of the problems I saw are ironed out (and to be fair, with the game not hitting in NA until early next year, who knows), I’ll take the Dual-Shock controls, thank you very much.

This is one game that will probably be a lot better on 360. First, there are several reports (not just that one posted) that it ran poorly compared the 360 version, then there is Platinum Games ignoring the existence of a PS3 version until a little while ago, and finally the fact that they aren't even doing the PS3 port.
With Bayonetta, we created the Xbox 360 version of the game first, and then handed off all the data and other assets to SEGA so they could begin the process of porting Bayonetta to the PS3, giving them advice regarding the porting process along the way and overseeing the progress to ensure that the PS3 version would be the best it could be.

So the 360 demo has an extra stage even though it's 400mbs smaller than the PS3's?

So he played versions of the game already and saw how the PS3 version was worse, it's a known fact that Platinum Games isn't making the PS3 version, he's got both consoles, and he's STILL buying the PS3 version? WHY? :lol

Buy a 360 so you don't have to be stuck with the inferior version.
Wanna buy me a 360? Unless The Bore steps up and gives me a free one, it's not happening. I spend too much on gaming as it is, another system would piss off the wife.
Ehh, it's not like Ps3 was released yesterday. Other devs are doing just fine with the Ps3 hardware.
Sony and Sega have one thing in common - they can't program for shit. Sony made their console a hell for untalented programmers.

Give wifey an ultimatum. No cock until you get a 360. In the meantime, we'll get you a fleshlight.

you know, i've got a lot of time for sporks but this makes no sense.
I think he has an X360
he has a PS3
one is substandard because it's [strike]on the ps3[/strike] been farmed out
the other is on the lead platform and runs fine
seems a crazy thing to do.
Perhaps PS3 fans should do the proper thing and wait for the superior-to-x360 Pc version so they can snort at the rest of us oiks as they mudwrestle some wenches whilst drinking chateaux de pape
Ehh, it's not like Ps3 was released yesterday. Other devs are doing just fine with the Ps3 hardware. It seems to be dependent more on cost than anything else, which is probably why big budget games are looking worse and why Activision was "threatening" to drop PS3 support entirely (they'd probably just give it to their B teams/lower budget instead). If the programmers need more man-hours to make the same game on a system with about the same amount of owners as the 360, then it's obvious that the profits would be lower. Game budgets are ultimately planned out by penny-pinchers who want to just maximize the return on investment which is why, as so very many people have said, having that particular architecture for the PS3 was not a good idea.
Sony and Sega have one thing in common - they can't program for shit. Sony made their console a hell for untalented programmers.
heyyyyyy
"We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that (developers) want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is, what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?" - sony
What's a UT?Urinary Tract Infection or Unreal Tournament.
-Game runs fine on PS3. It's not a perfect locked 60fps every second of the time but that's what the superior X360 version is for. Game is usually smooth and perfectly playable on the PS3 though.
It's definitely running over 30fps and that sure beats out most games on the PS3 and we don't call those "terrible" and "unplayable" and "broken".
-Main character and he moves are fucking embarrasing.
God of War 3...30-60 fps...omg best game ever
Bayonetta(PS3)...30-60 fps...broken,unplayable mess
I agree with Beppo, the problem here is that 360 version exists,it happened with lots of games.
I am sure that the game has its problems, but if 30-60 fps is unplayable then 99.9% of the games released this gen on consoles are nothing than a little faster slideshow.
If controls are greatly affected by that jojo fps...well that is an another story
-Has tearing all over the place.
-Has shit image quality in cinemas.
-Has blurry visuals.
-Has muddy textures.
-Has aliasing issues.
Its not a problem to say that PS3 version is gimped, like that is something new.
If i was mean i could say that every PS3 game is gimped because of PS3 :P
Why fps?
Because Bayonetta(30-60 fps)=unplayable
Sub 30 fps games=omg,soo good
That is all,graphical issues aside.
The 360 demo is up. Bayonetta-downloadin' Gold account is needed. :'(Save us, demi! :bawl
those look exactly the fucking same. The 360 version clearly had a much higher frame rate.
Downloading now, let's see how this fine PS3 port fares
I know one of the achievemens is gonna be like GET PLATINUM ON EVERYTHING and I'm gonna cry
can someone confirm or deny whether you can dl the demo with a usa xbl account
Are you guys passing around a 360 account? I'd like to get in on that. I've got a good connection, so it won't take forever.
Anyoned have a guide on setting up a PSN Japan account?
Just follow the steps of this tutorial. (http://bit.ly/4aTb3J)
not a single thank you amongs the crowd. ungrateful.I didn't get the info yet. :(
I have a japanese 360 account, but don't want to upgrade it to Gold. Can you hook me up, demi?

there are a few folks at b3d saying that the ps3 version is 720p
if that's true i would love to know what went wrong and made the IQ so piss poor
Is it, really? If it plays the same who gives a shit.
I haven't got the info yet (think it's on drew now) but thanks in advance demi.

Just got done with the PS3 demo. The 360 version must look incredible, cause I thought this looked good aside from very noticeable screen tearing.
???
Also interesting is that the 360 demo runs in English (or whatever language your system is set to), while the PS3 demo is in Japanese (although everyone speaks English and you can have English subtitles for cut scenes).
but the falling clock tower is about a 1000X better than that boss fight. 8)
but the falling clock tower is about a 1000X better than that boss fight. 8)
The PS3 version has longer boss fights on that train station stage, too. But it's dumb comparing what content is in one demo than the other. The end result will be the same...it's just that the 360 version is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the PS3 version.
bububububuububu it plays the same!
Tip if you dont want to use a dvd or cd for the demo if you have a HDD transfer cable. You can download "xport" or "explorer 360" then download the demo hook up your hdd to the computer and look for the content folder. Drop in the demo and your good to go.
Personally between the two its like night and day. It can't come out sooner on 360 for me and the misses.
Sorry Card Cheat, I guess it stopped yours when I got on. :(
I just got off, try again.

The PS3 version is significantly blurrier and the colors seem more washed out.

The 360 is definitely crisper. After all the doom and gloom I was expecting a total disaster going into the PS3 demo, and I got something that was far from it.

I saw a TON of screen tearing, but aside from that I never noticed drops in the frame rate discernable to the human eye. I tried to do everything I could in-game to kill the frame rate, but it wasn't happening. That, or I seriously can't tell the difference between 30 and 60 FPS.

Gawd it's losing vsync like crazy, the screen is tearing in places I didn't know the screen could tear beforeYeah, it's an absolute mess. It's a shame Platinum Games did not handle the port on their own, though I suppose the situation suggests that they would have had problems as well. This feels like the PS3 Orange Box situation or something. The PS3 version is not worthy of a retail release at this point. Seems like the team porting it was both at the mercy of Platinum and learning the PS3 hardware. What's more disappointing is the fact that the game doesn't even look as nice as DMC4. >_<
This game looks like it's falling apart on PS3
this game is too hectic, too much shit going on in the screen.
between sonic rings, the enemies and all the effects...
shit sux.
dmc4/ng2 > this turd.
Haters gonna hate.
cheeseburgers gonna snip they meat and two veg.
Oh Bayonetta is awesome, but it's just not as good as DMC4. DMC4 is the evolution of action games... this is like, the side-step version, a stopgap. A cheeseburger.
And why would I use a trainer? No skill ::)

It is well known, but it's annoying how upfront they are about it.

From the description, it's hard to tell if that's a new character or just a new costume, presumably for Kazuya. They say it's a new character, I think.
of course I'm getting FFXIII day 1, but man, everything about the art design screams "this is going to be the cheesiest shit ever."How can you say that about another game in a Bayonetta thread? :lol

God I hope Tekken has netcode that is at least on par with VF5. SC4 netcode was :yuck
SC4 netcode is fine if you're playing in absolutely optimal conditions (green bar in SF4 basically). It falls apart FAST on anything lower.
That's half the reason Killik was (is?) so popular. The king of lag tactics!
edit: I should say I haven't played it in a long time, so maybe the netcode was improved through patches.

The achievements are MUCH better than DMC4. There's one for earning 10 Platinums, and there's one for earning Platinum in Verse 1 and 2 on Chapter 14 (final level?)
The rest are collecting based it seems. There's also beat the game on Normal, Hard and ????? (it says ????? but its worth 100 pts)
I see DCharlie playing so I checked his achievements
Given the first-hand reports, Famitsu review scores, and general impressions coming out of this year's Tokyo Game Show, it's not exactly news that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Platinum Games' Bayonetta differ. But when our import copies of the game (which just released in Japan, and will be available in the U.S. on January 5th) arrived yesterday, I was determined to sort out the extent of that difference.
Over the past two days, I've spent about 12 hours split between the two versions, and I've ended up very disappointed the PS3 game. All the complaints you may have heard -- that it looks faded and blurry, and struggles through its framerate -- are true, and more significant than I've seen in any PS3/360 game in recent memory. The 360 version runs into occasional light framerate issues, but nothing that really affects the game. The PS3 version feels sluggish for the majority of the game -- at least, when put side-by-side with the 360 one.
You can check out our video comparison above, but I recommend checking out the larger downloadable versions on GameVideos, because these are the kinds of differences that are hard to spot in the Flash player (and in some ways are even hard to spot in the downloadable versions).
Since the stars lined up so spectacularly that the two versions don't ship in the U.S. until January 5th, but you can import the Japanese versions now, but only the Japanese PS3 version will work on U.S. consoles, I don't have an easy recommendation for the best way to play the game (unless you have enough cash to buy a Japanese 360). I've come to the conclusion, though, that the differences are significant enough that -- if you have the choice -- it's worth waiting until January to play the U.S. 360 game instead of importing the Japanese PS3 one now. If you only own a PS3 and don't plan to pick up a 360 at any point, the PS3 version is still a good game, but in my mind waiting a few months is worth the quality difference.
Of course, that's assuming that the only differences between the Japanese and U.S. versions will be their region lock. Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya told us at this year's Tokyo Game Show that he has no plans to add new content for the U.S. release, but that wasn't regarding the game's performance. It's possible that Sega will improve the PS3 version in the next few months. I've asked, but haven't heard anything back from them on the possibility.
Bayonetta = DMC KILLERDMC1 & 3 were the only decent ones the rest were garbage.
It has a lot more fun with itself than DMC ever did.
I really liked 3 though, this one tops it? Elaborate!
I wish that one day PS3 fans will realize that there's something inherently inferior about the PS3's hardware that's causing a vast majority of all multi-platform games to look better on the Xbox 360. Sure they can blame development effort but in reality that's just due to poor hardware infrastructure and middleware that's encouraging developers to not give a fuck because Sony clearly didn't.
his argument is the dualshock controller which he can get an adapter for it with ease online.
This is just further proof that some idiots (sprks) will cut off their noses to spite their faces. First of all, at this point there's NO REASON not to own a 360, even if you're a weeaboo. And if you do own one and want this game, apparently there's no question which version is superior. Stupid fucking s-tards.
There's no question about it. The only people I see buying this on the PS3 are casuals, the I-don't-care-about-graphics crowd, and crazy console-warriors who care enough about NPD to $60 on this shoddy port.
I'm getting a 360 when this game gets released (about friggin' time) but there's no way in hell am I getting this on the PS3. I don't want my named dragged through the mud and my family disowning me.
I wonder what resolution both version run at; if it's already sub-HD on the PS3 then that adds insult to injury, but if it's not I wonder had they decided to make it run at a lower res would that free enough resources to improve the framerate.
I finally tried the 360 demo and wow, the PS3 one is shit compared to this. But why isn't the boss fight in the 360 demo?
Based on their demos, what's gonna be the action game of '10, swaggaz: GoW or Bayonetta? :hyper
I hesitate to even call that encounter a "boss fight" after seeing what comes later. :)
WHAT

Now, if Mikami's new game is actually God Hand 2, then there would be some dispute about what the Action game of 2010 was. And I guess Itagaki has his thing and Team Ninja has Other M.
Eurogamer DF did the tech analysis of GOW 3 demo.....24-56 fps,it can't even reach 60 fps
36fps average... :lol
Bayonetta PS3 redux...but its exclusive so other version doesn't exist,no big deal, its more cinematic this way, they should lock it at 24fps for more cinematic experience
But not unexpected. I mean, it IS the Japanese 360 we're talking about here. 45,000 is amazing. :lol

Yes, it did more than expected because according to Kotaku it was sold out in a lot of places, so I guess that's the number Sega shipped.
What does the replayability look like at this stage? Are there rewards for multiple play-throughs?

how is this game getting lower reviews than Jade Empire? ???
Some quotes from EDGE:s 10/10 review.
Review calls the platinum brawler "flawless" and "the kind of game you dream of playing
- "From start to finish its intricate and intuitive fighting system is a masterclass, and it even finds time to reclaim vehicle levels. This is about as good as it gets," the magazine says."
- A thirdperson action game from the same school as Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta has just memorised the best bits and burned down the building, its combination of seamless animation, sensory cues and riotous imagination setting a new standard."
- Edge says the combat system "breaks new ground" and the story is "funny", but also finds time to be tender in places.
- It's a beautiful and graceful fighting game that lets imagination loose, and winks before slapping Dante, Kratos and every other hero back to the drawing board."

Changed my mind after doing it again. Originally I only played the clocktower stage and didn't know what the fuck was going on but after screwing around with the other section, I'm sold. Seems pretty awesome.
And holy fucking shit at the difference between the 360 and the PS3 versions. I had both running at the same time and I couldn't believe the gap was that big. It's like 2007 all over again. It'd be better to just forget the PS3 one even exists. Totally unacceptable.
I can't wait to play the full game over and over. I love how insane it is (the gameplay, that is. I don't really pay attention to the story/character design much.)
Could someone well versed in action games tell me what makes Bayonetta so great? I have limited exposure to the genre, but I played the demo and liked it
Going to go back tomorrow and finish the game, this time with a well-stocked item inventory. If it's still too much to handle, it's level grinding time. The fight before the last boss wasn't that special fight-wise (and was the only one in the entire game that was kind of dull), but had an awesome, awesome finish. The story took a turn for the serious, but I can forgive it since it was at the very end of the game.
The most important part of the game play is dodging. Timing is everything, and you need it to win. Getting witch time can really turn things in your favor-- I can't imagine how much harder things must be on the hardest unlockable difficulty...there's no witch time! :o
:rofl
Is that really what you got?
--Combat system (combos + dodges/witch time + weapon switching) is easy to learn, but deep enough to play forever. Seems like it's based more on reflexes/feel instead memorization of dial-a-combos.That's kind of what I gathered from the PS3 demo, and this is probably most important to me. Thanks for your impressions.
bayonetta kicks all sorts of ass. something about dmc4's controls didnt vibe well with me. bayonetta is fun right off the bat, over the top, and the dodging system gives you some breathing room when shit gets chaotic. i kinda wish there were more visual cues to when enemies attack because the angles feel pretty far at times. overall i will most likely day 1 this bitch.I actually started to go by audio cues, because the game is so hectic visually.
my girlfriend got all wet after watching me play the demo.
what about your girls, bore?

My girlfriend gave this gave this game some serious consideration after watching me play the demos, and her final verdict is it's cute and she'd enjoy watching me play it.
She doesn't get all the objections about objectifying women or focusing too much on sexuality. She just likes seeing a sexy female lead kick ass.
I think that's the trick: To not take this game seriously. Tongue in cheek for the win!
Because damn, I don't know how else to take those hilarious "lipstick smooches" the game uses for lock ons. :lol
Played both versions now, and the 360 one twice. The game is fun and the action vacillates between awesome and laugh-out-loud funny.
Consider it bought!
My girl didn't find this game offensive at all either btw, I do think this is more sensitive men than a problem with women.
The game is so much better than the demo. It's definitely making my best of 2009 list.
Read this thread! :lol
Everything just keeps getting crazier and more over the top. There's a shitload more moves and weapons you can use and more abilities you can get that aren't in the demo. Boss fights are INSANE in scale. Enemies fight more aggressively as you progress.
God of War III is going to look so lame after this :lol
Sure. Action/adventure as a genre is fine but it certainly covers a lot of ground. Say:
Zelda -------------------- God of War ----------------- Bayonetta/DMC/Ninja Gaiden
holy fucking boss fight:
http://zoome.jp/violet/diary/316/
I can't believe you'd put Kratos near Link like that.
...Then again, Kratos would have put a definitive end to Ganon.

NGB remains the definitive 3D action game.
I hope Bayonetta dethrones it, however.
PLayed the demo and the words 'button masher' comes to mind. This set of words was a detriment to GoW and other Playstation exclusives in the past 2 years.
Long story short, Pass. Can't believe I wasted time creating an email account to vote for Mike Pierce. :elephant

What a weird ass game. I don't know what the hell is happening all the time. Button mash heaven. But I like it more than DMC4 so far. But then again, DMC4 was very mediocre.
Installed it on the HDD. Loading is pretty fast.
someone still can't beat master ninja
tsk tsk tsk
I'm two hours in and having fun. But I don't know if I'll ever finish this. Not really my type of game. The gameplay is way too unfocused and chaotic for my tastes. I'm basically button bashing myself through all the fights. The action looks cool, though.
And wow at the v-sync issues. The worst I've ever seen in a game.
And wow at the v-sync issues. The worst I've ever seen in a game. You're playing on the PS3, right? My condolences.
No, the X360 version. And yes, I'm playing this on easy. You can only choose very easy, easy and normal when you start off a new game. I thought normal would be too hard, since there's no hard mode, so I went with easy mode.
I usually always play normal mode.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Start over on normal; play the real game. You get hard mode after you beat the game on normal. And you get an even harder difficulty after hard mode is cleared.

I'm almost 3 hours into the game now. Don't want to do it all over again. But yeah, the game has been reaaaaaaaaaaallly easy so far. Basically getting (super)platinum in all the battles. :lol
I wonder how easy the very easy mode should be.
This is not a game I would ever buy, though. I like the less "hardcore" games like GoW when it comes to this genre. This game is a bit too confusing and too fast for my tastes. But I can see why someone would love this game. It really plays great and it's very responsive, and some of the designs and concepts in the game are amazing.

After being pissed on and being called a Wii gamer, I adjusted the difficulty of the game.:lol
I will :bow when you go back and replay the levels you finished on the difficulty they were meant to be played on. :maf
Fortitudo....
HOLY FUCK THAT WAS AWESOME
The climax summons are so amazing. I just can't believe how awesome the boss battles are. Just when you think it can't get any more epic, a bigger boss appears.
I died quite a lot, though. Mostly thanks to those stupid QTE. They come up so unexpected on the screen. But the boss battles weren't that hard. Haven't gotten any platinum/pure platinum awards ever since I switched to normal mode. :'(
I didn't know you were playing the game, lyte edge. I got all the animal transformation already. Purchased them immediately when they were available.
Never had trouble beating any of the Devil May Cry titles. Never had trouble beating the Ninja Gaiden games.
Bayonetta is HARD. I understand the play mechanics and get what you need to do, but damn is it hard.

Yeah, that's not arguing, it's an emotional appeal; at which point, it becomes a fallacy. Or in GAF's case, a phallacy.Because it's big and bloated to some?
That's not even the reason usually given. The 360 pad isn't even oversized like the original Xbox controllers were. Its problem is its dpad, but that doesn't matter for Bayonetta. This is a game where one version is clearly superior to the other. You cannot argue otherwise. These guys with both systems whining and bitching over the PS3 version are distinguished mentally-challenged. Buy it for the 360, love the shit out of it, and forget about the PS3 fuck-up. Or buy the inferior version, deal with the shittier frame rate and ugly graphics. Just shut the fuck up about it already. That GAF thread is so tired and stupid I haven't bothered reading it for a week. Keeps going in circles.
These guys with both systems whining and bitching over the PS3 version are distinguished mentally-challenged.
So I finished the game on normal. Regarding some of the achievements, can I get them on easy and still have them count. There's a few that seem like they'd be kind of a pain in the ass on normal but would probably be fairly easy to do on easy.
QuoteWhat the fuck? The game has been out for a couple of months now. What is wrong with him and the other posters who keep holding out for this reason? Just buy the 360 version; jesus fuck why is THE CONTROLLER such a big deal to people?
that's what i don't get - if they are going to get the PS3 version of every thing and they don't REALLY like Halo, then SELL the damn X360s !
I mean, this is getting ridiculous - the game is clearly better on the X360 , it's NOT going to get patched by Sony's imaginary ninjas, and they ALREADY OWN AN X360. HELL, BUY THE 1000 yen controller adapter and you can solve your damn controller hang up too!
it's beyond insane. It's shocking that it's not just one person, it's a whole gang of people.
smfh.
The 360 controller isn't even bad, wtf. I mean, obviously not meant for fighting games, but then neither is the Sony pad.

Hard mode in Bayonetta is kicking my ass. Think I'm going to go back to normal mode and earn some halos so I can buy some of the accessories I suspect would make the going easier in hard mode.

I know what the hidden boss is. Pretty neat.
I forgot that DMC fans are only topped by Sonic fans in the "sad-worship-of-the-protagonist" category:The pink barrels on her gun are looking pretty distended and dubious. :'(

seems bayonetta will be co-opted by them too.
By the time I finished on normal, I was like "Well, I can probably handle at least the first few chapters of hard mode before things start getting rough." Well, I started getting my ass kicked in the prologue and the punishment just continued. I've been working on getting halos to get some of the better accessories (I didn't buy any in my normal playthru) because they're probably necessary to beat the game in hard mode.
Played the demo. It was alright. Seems offensive is more important than defense, yawn. Enjoyed the NGS2 demo more. Gonna rent.

You playing it on hard now?Yes i am playing it on hard.
I finished chapter 1, but I'm stuck in the opening battle of chapter 2 against Jeanne in which you don't have access to your regular equipment and accessories.
Now I'm trying to do all the Alfheim challenges to complete my witch hearts and magic pearls. Earning money at the same time (though I'm wasting it all on the extra costumes, hahah).

I'm not knocking Bayonetta.
I'm knocking Bayonetta's ps3 demo, which Lyte has confirmed to be a poor representation of the final game. The final game, however, is probably as good as he says it is (although I have my doubts).

I'd like to get the game but there is no way I can walk into a store and buy it.
yeah, you get ingredients from breaking stuff. there's 3 colors-- red, yellow, green. you use them to make health potions (green herbs), something that raises your strength, and another that raises your defense, I think. the last two are temporary.
I'm starting to get my ass seriously kicked, so I've been grinding to get all the techniques and stuff. A lot of the regular enemies are like bosses from other games...agni and rudra are regular enemies in this. :lol
Play other games while you're waiting for this because nothing else will ever be fun again. It's basically DMC4, if Kamiya had made it. DMC4 actually feels like more of a spin-off in retrospect compared to this game. And of course, the Bayonetta/Jeanne scenes are totally dante and virgil.
just fought the chapter 7 boss.
game of the gen.
I got all the techniques, but now I'm looking at these accessories, which look like they're going to make the combat even deeper. If you can equip 3 at once and each one has it's own technique/attribute, then you're basically making DMC styles out of the accessories (looks like there's about 20 you can buy.) In other words, it has a customizable style system. Jesus fucking christ :smug
better than ngb?
y/n
They are fucking hard, though they attack a lot, so it's easy to get witch time. the basic PKP combo decimates them pretty fast...you won't get a good grade for the fight, but you'll survive.
I think my favorite enemies are the chicks who are like Nicchae and Ishtaros from NG. It's cool that there are so many references to past action games! I hope this sells well so we get a sequel.

TAKE THAT KRANZ!
In fact, the game itself does stutter into life somewhat, interspersing short bursts of combat with overly-lengthy –though admittedly excellent – cutscenes. However, it doesn’t take long for that initial layer of fat to be trimmed and the fighting system begins to reveal its majesty.
Longest cut scene is like four minutes I think.
EDIT: Sorry, Kranz, no way the cut scenes are 15 minutes long, aside from the ones in the epilogue/ending!
People are always in agreement about video game stories sucking and being completely devoid of artistic value (no need to post, Mr. "but what about SOTC and ICO?" guy) then when I actually call some games to task, obvious offenders like Bayonetta, I get jumped on by like 100 people about how I'm wrong.

You get points docked for using items at the end of a chapter. There's no way to win platinum trophies if you use items during a level. It's the same as if you get killed and use continues, so you do get penalized.

Well, I still think its messed.
I played Chapter 2 the first time, and I fucked up the train achievement (oops). So I play the level, get an overall Bronze. Ok, I'll replay it.
Finish the 2nd go, and I wind up with a Silver. Yay! But for some reason I had a worse combo and time score, so it was actually worse. Why is this?
i only bought one witch heart, and that was after i had the beginning of a second bar
Maybe you found witch heart pieces in the stages prior? I think if you do all the Alfheim challenges, you should have enough pieces to have the beginning of a second bar by chapter 2.
You can still get Bronze even if you're one of the top players on the Leaderboard, really. Its just a bungled system I think.

Just finished this. Pretty great game overall. It's nice to finally have another action game that can hang with NG and DMC (even if it's derivative of DMC). Of course there was still plenty of stuff I didn't like:The scoring system is a nice concept but it's easily abusable just from taking a look at the leaderboards (9999999 scores everywhere). I think I know how they're pulling off scores like that, so hopefully Platinum will issue a patch to fix it and wipe the leaderboards afterward. Shouldn't be too hard to fix.spoiler (click to show/hide)motorcycle and missile surfing missions are garbage, turret section to kill a boss is garbage, QTE's are garbage, button mashing for climax moves is garbage, escorting little girls is garbage, vsync and framerate issues[close]
Now to go collect the rest of the stuff I missed and then on to Hard mode.

From what I've read, the sexually awkward are usually the ones who are offended by the game. Also, married couples whose wife have them by a leash.
If anything it's more like Kamiya's fanwank. Theres references to references and nothing but.
i never had a prob with her, she goes into a bubble when theres enemies around
i must be too fast, never had a problem with that either :smug
Also the shapeshifting moves are -annoying-Only because they don't allow you to keep mashing the dodge button. I can deal with that.
id really like to know what happened to my lifebar
It doesnt look like she affects the score at least. I feel rushed when I have to escort and fight enemies.
of course, every time i play it, i dont think theres anything that would LOWER your lifebar though, which is what happened to me
edit: in fact i remember exactly what i bought this morning, which was between the chapters where it happened, i bought one of those talisman of rebirth shot things that raise you from the dead automatically because i did really well in the mini game and it was the most expensive thing there

The only good equippable weapon are the staffs the angels drop, so you can do the stripper pole move. Huge AOE damage. Everything else feels clunky and slow.Nah, the bow and arrow weapon is cool too. I only got it twice so far. :'(

I'm up to chapter 12 now. How many chapters are there?
Oh ok. I might beat it tonight.
What do the perfumes in Rodin's store do? Also, are the weapons on sale better than the ones you originally have?
The perfumes are costume changes depending on what weapon you've got equipped.
(Actually, I restarted more times than I can count...)
i always wondered what that dodge offset cheev you guys all have is aboutAre you on my friends list? I got that achievement but I had no idea how until now.
just figured out that swirling the sticks and pressing the button theyre assigned to changes the durgas :dur:lol
Are you on my friends list? I got that achievement but I had no idea how until now.
The Temperentia fight could be considered the final boss fight of any game ever made before Bayonetta. Here it's just a boss fight.
Did you get the Rocket Launcher tonfas? No and I wanted those more than anything.
How would i miss fights? :'(
Did you get the Rocket Launcher tonfas?

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
HOW, OH MY GOD I HATE IT SO MUCH
reading the gaf thread for this is hilarious, sfags typing books explaining why their version isnt broken, i dont think they know what a joke is
:lolI knew I was in control, but for some reason I thought you had to destroy all the planets. :lol
That happened to me, too. I didn't catch on that I was in control until I hit the first planet and got the game over screen.
fuck i keep getting pulled into this damn vortex FUCKbeast form, noob
How the fuck do you dodge that cannon attack on Chapter 15? I tried
- dodging
- running away from him, behind a wall
I still get hit. Am I missing something painfully obvious?
And I fucking died on Jeanne with a QTE. No way I'm replaying that boring, horribly controlled, hard to see, shooting part just to reach that again. Shits bonkers.
FUCK
THIS
GAME
A game over at the VERY END because I didnt hit the sun? REALLY? REALLY?
You better believe I am FUMING at what I just experienced
Holy mother of God I want to break something
Holy shit, whats with this requirement stuff? 3 Torture Attacks in the Prologue? Jesus christ this gameglad i didn't buy this game.
Think I'll just grind Balder and get everything purchased / achievement cleanup first
Chapter 8 is perhaps the worst level I've ever seen in an action game.
HEY LET'S FIGHT 3 BLITZ'S THAT DISABLE WITCH TIME WHILE HAVING CARS SMASH YOU FROM OFF SCREEN LOL!
If an IS gets stuck in you from off screen in NG2 you can easily dodge it with the invincible frames with the dash or any number of ways. That section is more like playing the street stage in DoA4 with the camera spinning around so you can't see where the cars are coming from. It's not hard (it's actually a pretty easy game), it's just incredibly bad.

NG2 = fair and balanced
Bayonetta = broken/incredibly bad

kamiyafags are in full force i see.
kamiyafags are in full force i see.Pussy...
I beat it the first time using just sword and guns, no accessories. The accessories help but the only ones you really want are Selene's Light and Evil Rosary.
Moon of Maha Kala is just DMC4's Royal Guard and I could never use that any good.
The motorcycle stage is not bad, it's just too long. I love the missile stage though, probably because I played Space Harrier for the first time last month.
There's way too much trash littered throughout the game like that and it really brings it down. Everything about the combat is superb... it's just everything else that is abysmal.

The weapon you get for beating hard is disappointing.spoiler (click to show/hide)Yet another pallet swap :-\ at least it has lasers this time[close]
And protip: RT + Back during cutscenes to skip them quickly. Wish I knew this before!
edit: It even skips the startup to that stupid minigame between chapters!

have you even played chapter 8 on hard?
yes. you can extended witch time them with moon of maha kala counters and pretty much decimate them in one or two witch times with that. do lots of air combos to avoid the cars. ???
you guys do know that you can center the camera by pushing in the right stick...right?
yes. you can extended witch time them with moon of maha kala counters and pretty much decimate them in one or two witch times with that. do lots of air combos to avoid the cars. ???
and if the camera is not focused down the highway (which is very easy considering there's three blitz's and they can get behind you without much trouble) you can easily get clipped from off screen by a car. the real threat coming from the camera and the environment rather than the enemies = best action game ever, :bow kamiya-sama.
You can get Wicked Weave Master while not in battle, lol.
Just do - P K (hold K) - immediately RT - P
With the sword it does the giant swipe, which counts as a Weave.
so it's not a parry but you still press forward to parry their attack which activates witch time. gotcha.
i'm not sure what skills i've lied about ???
I'm starting to think Hard won't be as hard as I thought it would've been. I recently beat Chapter 5 and it wasn't that bad, even got a couple PPs. Sure I don't jinx it. And you know Grace and Glory aren't that bad once you calm the fuck down and pace/time yourself.
Not looking forward to later Jeanne fights at all.

I dont think the game is very hard at all. No witch time? No big deal, just spam RT and you'll make plenty of orbs that do ton of damage anyway.
Frustrating, but not hard (difference!)
I'm on the stage where you fight a bunch of enemies on moving vehicles. I slaughtered them all, but now i have no idea what to do. The highway doesn't end.
These torture attack alfheims are not fun. Is there a painfully obvious method of earning magic that I'm missing?use guns+breakdance a lot to build up but not kill
The idea of having to fight Grace and Glory without WT is frighting. I still don't know exactly how to turn a parry into WT, I've done it accidentally a couple of times but I don't know the exact timing for it.

:usavich Angel Slayer :usavich
I'm done with the game for now, taking break, a LONG BREAK. And this game is not easy what's with you people!?
Also, Jeanne's taunts are awesome. She curses, she even said motherfucker.
No doubt, but I'd put DMC4 and Bayonetta on the same level. Lots of small things that keep Bayonetta from being up top.
I sent my Penny Arcade submission in yesterday morning. Hope I win :hyper

Trying to decide between an 1/8 or this, but all the "poor design" comments have me leaning toward weed and just finishing up DMC for now

Pillow Talk (the lightsaber) is actually the strongest in the game, you have to charge it though.
What was in chapter 8 that sucked ???
Bazillions are pretty useful. Equip them to the hands and the charge makes them a laser beam, for far attacks. Will definitely use these on Climax mode.

The entire OST is pretty awesome actually.
This one thing in bayonetta really sucks
oh but wait it's useful for this other thing
when did I say this one thing in bayonetta sucks

You know one thing I'm actually disappointed with is the sex stuff. Before I got the game all I ever read was how sexual the game is/was going to be. And then I play and I'm like "That's it?" There's a couple of crotch shots and that's it. I actually wanted more to be honest.
:/
I figured out that you dont need to keep replaying each level (well, sort of).
The game saves before each verse's fight, so if you get hit (going for PP) you can just exit to title and hit continue. If I find myself getting my ass beat due to cheap hits, etc. I can just exit and reload and be back where I was. Your rank isnt affected either.
Obviously this wont help if you fuck up for Combo and Time
Yes I'm probably late on this
You can turn it off - go to File -> Umbran Arts -> Special Techniques
:lol
The QTEs seem to be the only truly bad design choice in the game. Otherwise quite perfect besides the motorcycle section running too long.
Wasn't there a game where there they didn't punish you for failing a QTE, but successfully pulling it off game you an advantage in the next part? More games should do that if they must have QTEs.
play ninja blade.
>Pure Platinum every verse in Chapter 3
>Get hit by fire at the end

Took me 29 hours. I'm burnt out and will 1000 the game later.
Whoa, you sure are some dedicated gamers. I beat it on normal and thought it was pretty hard. No chance in hell I'd replay this on a higher difficulty level. I'm not a machochist.
His achievements only have him past the prologue... I sent him a message (he's on my list) saying he should put more time into it. At least finish the game before saying its shit... really irks me when people do that.
Man, this is so Viewtiful Joe at times. Which is a good thing.
Anybody know how it's doing in the US, saleswise? I saw the US advertising on Youtube. It actually looks pretty cool. Plus, all the reviews have been great. I don't know if that will translate into sales, though.
Grace and Glory just relax and pepper them with bullets.
One (usually) will only come up to you, then do a downward claw swipe, which is easy to RT and activate witch time.
The AI is as smart as DMC4's, as long as the other isnt in camera focus, it wont attack.
Just got to some electro and fire boss dudes, how far in is that? Trying to figure out if I should just go ahead and buy it, or if I'll have to complete it in the rental period.
The second, you have to get them like... immediately before you get hit.Ah, so it's like the bat thing. The regular bounce back parry is much easier to do than I thought it would be. I love that it reflects back projectiles too.
if you dont understand the story you must have caught the stupidSo you're saying you ENJOYED the story?
So you're saying you ENJOYED the story?
So I beat the secret boss.spoiler (click to show/hide)That was really really fucking hard. Easily the hardest boss in th entire game plus the fight is in Non Stop Climax mode. FUCK HARD. I put on the Climax Bracelet because fighting him any other way is masochism. I almost beat him once with out getting hit, had half his health bar left and he does his near instant kill attack. Normally you can just turn into the panther and run away but it's like he warped to me. FUCKING INSTANT TRANSMISSION. I barely beat him many tries later. You get the final LP "Rodin" for beating him.[close]
Got a silver medal :pimp
You can buy all of the unlockable ones except the Sai Fung. You have to legit that one.
I just started ch. 14 on hard and noticed for the first time how she rubs her hand above her crotch when she says the thread title line. :lol
So does this mean you can get the LP achievement by just halo farming and getting all the unlockables using the phone cheat?
Ew... Normal? Cmon you can do Inf Climax
bat form, noob
You guys bitch way too much.
:piss Gracious and Glorious :piss2
"Hey guys, you know that gameplay technique that defines the entire combat system? Well we're getting rid of it for these enemies. No Witch-Time for you!"
Kamiya :piss2
How do you miss verses? Every time I complete a chapter there are a bunch of blank spaces in the row of medals at the end. I just replayed a chapter and got a Stone Award even though I got gold or better on every verse where I received a medal after completion. Where are the missing verses? Are there little optional side areas you're supposed to complete or something?
Is there any mode like bloody palace? One of the things I didn't like about the game was how the combat was always in small bites.I haven't unlocked it yet, but I heard that the lost chapter is like it. I think you have to beat all the alfheims to unlock it.
Bayonetta (demo)
Bayonetta you're mystery
Jerky cutscenes tell a bad story
The camera lags on the battlefield, I can't tell where you are
Bayonetta you're DMC
With your long hair and nudity
Your combos are long, witch time drags on, it's mashing, it's mashing
eriously, though...
I pretty much thought that Bayonetta would be like Devil May Cry 3 before I played it. But now that I played it, it's pretty much confirmed.
The gimmick to Bayonetta is Witch Time, which triggers when you dodge an enemy attack at the last moment. When it's triggered, enemies will move in slow-mo temporarily, allowing you to pummel them. The concept is good, and I always believe that the element of timing adds a bit of depth that this type of game typically lacks.
The only thing is, it's not really anything new. Devil May Cry 3 does a similar thing with the Royal Guard playstyle where you time a block at the moment of impact in order to do a counter. The difference is, Bayonetta is more of a manual counter. Witch time activates and gives you an opportunity to "counter" by unleashing whatever arsenal of attacks you want to. If you enjoy the combo process, Bayonetta's implementation of timing-based defense is better.
Another difference is that Devil May Cry 3 has a "free form" combo system in which every move more or less chains into another move if you time it correctly, so you can presumeably combo infinitely if you're good enough. By contrast, Bayonetta has preset combos. In execution, though, the two games are roughly the same. Bayonetta has preset combos but they are in such abundance that there's quite a lot of variety in what you can do.
So that brings us to the focal point - Bayonetta is a combo game. Bayonetta is a combo game just as DMC3 is a combo game. And I cannot stand them. I find the design of such a game, low-brow. Most people disagree, judging by DMC3's sales and popularity, and judging by DMC3 and Bayonetta's critical reception. But I absolutely believe that these games cater to smug individuals who get off on watching themselves kick ass. The problem is the game doesn't even require much attention to have you kick ass. You just mash a few buttons and that just translates to some awesome visuals on-screen. It's incredibly superficial. And to me, incredibly boring. I'm not saying that it requires no skill to maintain a combo. But juggle-based gameplay is not about the game challenging you with situations as much as it is you challenging yourself to sustain your erection longer.
The music is pretty awesome though.
:lol Translation: I am terrible at video gamesQuoteSo that brings us to the focal point - Bayonetta is a combo game. Bayonetta is a combo game just as DMC3 is a combo game. And I cannot stand them. Bayonetta IS a combo game though.
Does it have to be though? My main attack is PKP with the sword (you know that ends with the big horizontal sword swipe for major damage). I don't really do combos. I just mix up some small attacks and tiny strings while dodging.
Who is Tsubaki? The only Tsubaki I know from GAF off the top of my head is Sanjuro Tsubaki and this isn't him is it?
Bayonetta IS a combo game though. But I am curious to know what games he considers high-brow if combo games are low-brow. Personally I find skill-based games to be as high-brow as it gets.
The magic bar is only for torture attacks and some accessories (one of them allows you to activate it with magic and it will absorb some hits for you). You can only equip two accessories though; honestly I have no idea what that third slot is for. And the production models for weapons only allow you to equip them on both your hands and feet (very lame).
It doesn't NEED to be a combo game, just like DMC doesn't, but it's really how it's meant to be played in order to score well.
I want to find the guy who decided that Chapter 14 was a good idea and kick him in the crotch repeatedly until his balls are bluer than Malek's.
Hey Kamiya, if shitty on-rails shooters were my thing, I would buy a fucking Wii.
You definitely do not need Dodge Offset. Evil Rosary and you are set. This is true. I got lazy about learning dodge offset. Didn't use it once while playing through infinite climax. I'm guessing you might need to know it if you're trying to platinum infinite climax though.
today is the day I buy Bayonetta. I will spam this thread asking for tips from the pros here
god Im looking forward to playing something other than Peggle.
demi I double dog dare you to 200/200 Peggle XBLA
How is it? Does it feel cheap? I didn't bother sending in a pic.
Infinite Climax is the same thing as hard mode, except no witch time. Nothing is changed.
jokes on ichi, I actually Fed-Ex'ed him a KFC bucket full of horseshit :-*:lol
The tearing is only really bad on Chapter 2 or 3 - the village level
So what is the consensus on this game? Is it anywhere as good as NG or DMC3?
Is this your first time in this thread? :lol
Best action game since Ninja Gaiden.
Bebpo's ranking for Bay is horrible btw. Its combat destroys DMC's, especial 4.
DMC4 isn't better than anything, demi. And no DMC game is better than NG. NG2 is questionable thanks to rocket spamming and other lil cheap shit.
I just acquired the weapon Durga, how do I use the lightning version?
Edit: I can't believe I'm saying this, but I liked the game so much that I'm gonna play it again on hard. The way it was meant to be played. :rock
It sure is!It sold over a million. I know that's not great, but it may be enough to ensure a follow-up.
And was really well received by western critics, too. Lots of 9/10s. Shame it sold like poop :(
and now i am awarded with a dance sequence. OK.
i just want to apologize to himu-chan i shouldnt have doubted you :)
for what?KISS THE RING

The Alfheim missions are great until you realize you have to play them every single time you do a scoring run.
Want that glorious Pure Platinum? Jump on these enemies' heads for 5 minutes LOL!
