yeah--keep in mind that I'm the weirdo minority on all this. Except Ryse, which look awful, everything else was solid, but not for me. If Sony's show has an equal amount of games of similar variety, then it'd disappoint me, but it could be cool for the mass audience.

I'd imagine the $500 XB1 price gave them hope that the PS3 would either mirror it or be $450, thus allowing them to relaunch the WiiU this holiday season. To be honest I'm still nervous about PS4. The PS3 has hour long updates. To view games on sale, I have to do a system update that takes 20 mins. That's right, I want to buy games from them, to give them money, and they want me to sit though a 20 min update to do that. That is the definition of a mess. Hopefully they get the software right with the PS4.

Don't get me wrong, I can see the benefits of PS+ and it's pretty much a good deal for anyone, but I don't like having basic online access behind a paywall. I don't. I did that with the OG X-box (when it was worth it) I did it with the 360 (stupidly because of my love for the OG X-box, so not really worth it in the end) but after playing online for free with the PS3 and the portables, I can't go down that route with Sony. I just can't justify the money for that. PS+ gives me 90% of what I own already for free so far, maybe that would change with the PS4 but given they give games out six months later, it's doubtful. So I don't really sub to it except on times like when X-com goes free. Putting the multiplayer behind a pay-wall would kill me.

The difference is like...here's all this free shit, tons of it, and okay, sorry, but online MP is in there to now. Whereas Gold is online MP primarily and you get to use netflix and get some discounts, week early demos. and now 2 free games a month...starting with 2 bullshit games.

The major issue Jay isn't power: It's the change from PPC (see Powermac G3's-Mac Mini first gens) back to x86 architecture (see: Macbook Pros-Mac Mini second gen on...)
The same thing MS is facing the PS3 is facing. While the Cell chip is expensive is also true there's too much "divide" for them to just carry that back to x86 and emulate it. At least that's to my knowledge?
I can't believe that Microsoft and Sony really went to IBM/PowerPC processors just because there was a very minor shift towards Macs in the PC market.....especially if they were experiencing diminishing returns and power consumption issues. Chances are that IBM just underbid Intel for the contracts.
The ps3 is still 299. Even discounting an overlap in parts, that would eat up the lead Sony wants on xbox. What we will see for BC is cloud based stuff where the game doesn't even run on your machine. It runs on ps3s and just transmits the video. Sony just bought that company a while back that does exactly this.

Well despite MS bungling their hardware, the two biggest issues can still be solved before launch.
Firmware update to remove the DRM and mandatory kinect. Then unbundle the kinect, and drop $100 off the price.
It might throw devs for a loop that expected every X1 to have kinect, but better to unbundle it before launch than be faced with a Wii U "tablet albatross".

Also PS4 has no power brick, it's an internal PSU and this is TBD for XBONE.
I'm not sure how the PS4 can be so small. It's also very light at 2.8kg or 6lbs. Compare that to launch PS3 at 7kg or 15lbs... PS4 is only 40% of PS3 weight.

Actually, it's hard to say. Niche stuff gets translated when people at SEGA have free time between important projects. That's why World Destruction and Valkyria Chronicles got released but 7th Dragon didn't. Miku is obviously niche, so very likely the same guys that normally would be doing RGG are working on that instead.
Chances would still be pretty low even in the absence of Miku, though. Almost anything is worth localizing ahead of RGG after Dead Souls performance.

Running around, not knowing what the hell anyone is talking about, with a FAQ telling you where to go and what do doesn't sound particularly exciting for a game like this.

Took the majority -but not all- of my American 360 games (and got away with throwing Biohazard 5 in there too...reversible RE5 cover FTW) and ended up doing the stupid Gamestop power card thing (it gave me a credit boost so why not) for about $399 in store credit. Picked up two PS3 games I wanted to replace the 360 versions and the remaining $295 went towards a PS4, plus $5 deposits on Watchdogs, Killzone 4, and CoD Ghosts. Might change all that up later.God damn't I'm doing this. I'd get about $500 alone on the games. And damn, I still have a launch 360, I should trade it in before it dies.
Didn't trade in the 360 yet since I'm going to do a system transfer to my older Japanese system, but they told me that I'd get about $150 for it, which will pay off the remaining amount on the PS4. I'm also going to get a 50% additional credit coupon from them in the next day or so which they said I could apply to the 360 trade in.

So why not just reign in development costs a bit? This guy isn't helping the "dumb polack" stereotype. :P
Reining in development costs (which the industry is going to *have* to do) involves firing a shit-ton of people. The industry basically did the ol' classic "expanding too much too quickly" thing and is now in a bit of a horrifying pinch. Cliffy doesn't want people fired.
of course, the obvious problem with that is that a lot of people will lose their jobs anyway when one of the projects theyre working on inevitably bombs.
Titanfall - probably one of the best things I saw, it's very fast paced and the transition between mechs + foot combat is very quick. The maps are a bit more vertical than most shooters, but still felt a little small after seeing Destiny.:phil
PS4 contoller - the handles are longer, and the new curved triggers are fantastic. But it still has "those" sticks. If it had the Xbox controller sticks, I think I'd like it better than the Xbox controller, it feels really comfortable and light.

It's pretty telling when Dark/Demon's Souls, a game from Japan is made by a team of... shit, I'm forgetting... 70(?) people and is acclaimed by the "hardcore" more than an Assassin's Creed/Resident Evil iteration made by a team of 700+ people. One laser focused their design documents and things they wanted to go for before doing it while the other bloated out and is a convoluted and buggy mess with a mish-mash of mission directive/mechanic changes all throughout the game.AC3 sold more than 10m copies.
