If Sony can take their 'minis' to the next level, there's no reason why they can't introduce an XNA-competitor. It's a natural extension of it.

Plus Harmonix needs to fucking talk to Sony about expediting their RB DLC. There's NO REASON why after 2.5 STRAIGHT YEARS of CONSTANT DLC they still need a 2-3 week delay on approval. Sony can play favorites, Harmonix hasn't exerted the effort yet.

So, Mew3, are you saying it's not HMX that sucks, but Sony submissions/approvals that suck? Who sucks here?

Microsoft's submission times for the 360 are actually on par with the PS3. (Getting a 360 game back from MS Cert is pretty cool. Nice screenshots detailing everything they found.)

Except there's a certain trust that's in place for Rock Band since the content is consistent and fairly non-volatile compared to other DLC. In this case, Harmonix has that trust to get their shit published quicker. Possibly in relation to their 2-day earlier posting times. A few day exclusivity matters a lot. (Indie publishing on Direct2Drive is free if you give a 5-day exclusive away from GameSpy)

But Harmonix time and time again has shown they'd rather be passive with Sony's requirements than aggressive. They should actually open up a thread of communication. Hell, it wasn't until I was bitching at them on the forums that they found out that 3rd party devs had access to the Official Playstation Blog to post patch notes. I swear to god it's like they have no clue what Sony actually can provide for them.

Their games make use of the bare minimum to ship a game and do nothing extra in terms of programming or community specifically for Sony.

The voice chat is BROKEN. The rich presence doesn't exist. The message of the day is disabled due to confusion on a TRC. You can't uninstall individual songs. The Singstar microphones requires you to be on controller 1 ONLY as the singer. Those are little bugs that are easy to fix, but they don't. The Voice Chat output location is easily changed with a single function. You check for a headset. If it exists, bind the VoiceOutput() to that channel. I did this programming MYSELF ON A PS3. I know how fucking crappy they are. I'd apply there, but I'm not living on the east coast.

Sad such a great company inspires such rage when their PS3 programmers are poop.

Thanks for the thorough reply. Hopefully you'll get more satisfaction out of the next title:

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/ea-to-distribute-rock-band-3
Quote
EA to distribute Rock Band 3

After initial doubts about its involvement in future releases, Harmonix has confirmed that Electronic Arts is due to distribute MTV and Viacom's Rock Band 3 this Christmas.

Earlier in the year Viacom had said that it was still in negotiations over a future distribution deal for its Rock Band series, after slower than expected sales hit the franchise and its big Beatles tie-in failed to meet expectations.

"Harmonix is developing Rock Band 3 for worldwide release this holiday season," announced Harmonix on the game's official Facebook page. "The game, which will be published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts, will innovate and revolutionise the music genre once again, just as Harmonix did with the original Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band."

Electronic Arts had said that it intended to release less third-party titles through its EA Partners business due to low margins, although along with a new Rock Band deal it has just signed up digital titles from Hothead and Klei, and 38 Studios' RPG Project Mercury.

The music genre as a whole slumped in 2009, prompting Viacom to admit it would be more selective with the content it releases for future Rock Band games.

Both the Rock Band and the rival Guitar Hero series' are now focusing on selling digital downloads for the games, rather than new iterations of the expensive plastic peripherals that accompany the titles.

Green Day Rock Band info:

Comes out June 8
$60 with a $10 export fee
47 songs
The Green Day DLC works with the game and takes advantage of vocal harmonies (this gives me very high hopes for current DLC supporting harmonies in Rock Band 3)
Will (hopefully) flop

Yeah, I don't get Green Day as a choice. I could see Led Zeppelin, but they're supposed to be uberprotective of their master tapes. I could see Rolling Stones, but I heard their per-song royalties are stupid huge.

Did I already ask about a U2 Rock Band in this thread?

I would pay big money for Achtung Baby, but am not interested in almost anything else. But I can't figure out why they're not in any games. BONO HATES GAMES! We should all go out and save Africa instead.  :maf

Pre-order at GameStop and get free export token.
$70 for Green Day Plus, which includes export plus 6 DLC (Assuming it's the existing DLC, maybe not)

Either way, $10 for 6 songs is a deal, considering I'd by them anyway, so I'm going for that.

53 Green Day songs (More if there are combined songs) 59 if the DLC is new? Holy crap. SO MUCH GREEN DAY! YESSSSSSSS!

I mean, with that much, you know it'll be good.

Jesus of Suburbia, Basket Case, Hitchin' a Ride, SO MANY SONGS. I can't wait.

U2 wants their own game but released a statement they want it done like the Beatles, so you can guarantee Harmonix is chasing that. (They've had their music in Singstar and such, so they're not averse to all music games)

If anyone's ever heard of SC3, it's an arcade convention held in a backyard at this one house in California every 6 months.
The guy who USED to supply the Rock Band setup isn't involved this time, so I am.

Sadly he had 100% of DLC before and I don't. I'm closer to 40% maybe. Which means that my sense of being a nice guy I'm probably going to grab some popular stuff I haven't bought recently.

I'm figuring the Cartman Poker Face will be popular, as will this Hendrix. Any other ideas of recent packs I might need to touch on?

Bulls on Parade, Hair of the Dog, Rust in Peace, Nirvana, old Alice in Chains, maybe some Paul McCartney, Tom Petty. Queen Pack obviously, if you don't have that.

I don't know what else other people would consider "must have" since I mainly just like the 80's pop stuff that are easy to sing along to.

What time frame?  From 2010 I would suggest:

Band on the Run
Godzilla
Hangar 18
Panic Switch
Fell In Love With a Girl
Seven Nation Army
Poker Face
Just Dance
Bad Romance

I have Bulls on Parade, all the Nirvana, but none of the others, outside of the LRB export. I don't like buying songs not in packs because it's throwing away money, but I don't really need to buy ALL of Queen or Tom Petty.

http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/13955086/Rock-Band-Green-Day/Product.html#

Play.com splurged on GD:RB details.

Dookie and American Idiot have every track.
The way the DLC is worded, it seems it'll only be the 6 that are currently out there as DLC, and that'll also finish up the 21st Century Breakdown disc in it's entirety.
No new DLC.

So you can do the math and see what's left.

"Experience 47 Green Day songs, featuring a collection of greatest hits and two of the most iconic Green Day albums in their entirety"
That's not something you make up for a game.

So what?  There's a market for that, especially for how popular the game is.  Christian music is one of the most successful avenues in music today, whether you like it or not.

It'll get back to the usual next week.

The first RBN tracks are hitting PS3 tomorrow.

Flogging Molly - Drunken Lullabies (Live)
Jonathan Coulton - Code Monkey
The Shins - Australia
The Slip - Even Rats
Steve Vai - For the Love of God (Live)

Mr. Gundam will be pleased!  (I think he wanted that Shins song)

Hi Guys:

I just wanted to take a quick second to clarify how RBN tracks will be rolling out on the PS3. As HMXHenry just confirmed, we'll be launching 5 great tracks tomorrow from the RBN catalog in the PS3 RBN store. These tracks are awesome. Get excited.

Because of the way submissions work on PS3, we will only be able to release songs when we update the normal Rock Band DLC store (currently Thursdays). Furthermore, because of the way the submissions process works, we're currently capped at 5 songs per week. We're working hard to expand the number of songs we'll be able to do each week, but for now you can expect 5 songs a week, every week, plus your normal DLC releases.

We're using a few different criteria to pick these select tracks. The best selling tracks play into it, but we're also balancing that information with songs that we know are in demand from the core Rock Band users. Keep being (politely) vocal about what songs you want to bring over! We have a long lead time for submissions, but we'll continue to tweak what we bring over based on what we're hearing from you!

To be clear, the reason that we can update in real-time on Xbox 360 is because Rock Band Network on Xbox 360 is built on the XNA infrastructure that allows users to submit their own content, with the sales and distribution of those tracks managed by the XNA backend. That infrastructure doesn't exist on other platforms. We're looking into ways to bring as much stuff over as possible, but there are practical realities that aren't in our immediate control. We hope you understand.

I can only ask you to believe us when we say that we're limited in what we can currently do, but we want to bring as much music to you as possible. We're working on it and we hope you enjoy the songs we do bring in the meantime. We want your feedback, especially if the discussion is civil and informed.

Otherwise, Rock On!

I feel sorry for you PS3 guys, I do. Sony's "just DIY" attitude on services and backend have been a detriment to bringing a lot of perfectly cross-platform elements across.

I have been enjoying playing Conchords' Business Time and Coulton's Code Monkey, as well at MC Frontalot's Goth Girls.

Keyboards confirmed in Rock Band 3

This along with harmonies included means much more music that can become available!
I'm taking a trip out to LA for E3 and will get a chance to check out the game.  Very much looking forward to it.
