Well, dude, you're seriously oversimplifying the usage scenario of a very, very complicated area of copyright law. It's not just a matter of what the artists want or what's good for the fans, or even what the game developer or publisher can afford to pay; making deals with the labels is like dealing with Satan or a nasty dragon. You can be sure of only a few things: it's not collaborative; they don't care about you, long-term viability, or growth; you're getting the short end of the deal.

Anyway, HAT's sarcasm was only mildly rude but entertaining, while invitations to ass-licking are exceedingly rude and unwelcome.

I agree with you that it's silly they can't get their own employees' bands to agree to bundle with the rest of the songs covered by the export feature, but there's likely something more to it than "Golly, the VP of HMX was really surprised when the employees didn't agree to have their work featured for free."

It is more troubling that RHCP's Bloodsugarsexmagik, a full album as DLC excepting the song "Give It Away" is not going to be a full album when played in RB3. It's not like they're removing the ability to play it in RB2, but still.

I didn't say it would be easy or even possible, I just said that what they should do because I'm a consumer and that's what I what I want, and fuck them if they can't do it, and fuck the labels and bands and the lawyers and everybody else. I just want my songs, dammit.

I love the SA Rock Band army on SomethingAwful, they spin anything negative about RB to be good and how it's "a lie to make you look better". Right.

Yeah, I'm a little pissed about losing Give It Away when I paid for Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

But evidently the Harmonix songs will be available for download for free at a later time.

http://rockbandaide.com/9308/rock-band-2-export-details/

Still, sucks that I lose licensing for two songs that are already on my damn hard drive.

The tablature they use for pro keys is so fucking stupid, and theres no way to look at a chart, because you can't pause the charts. Even in practice mode.

I wonder if that's due to those songs being on the European Rock Band 2 disc?

Archie please tell me you're seriously not going to pick up a real squire just to learn guitar through this "method". The tutorials are really really bad, even for keys. They never explain what you're learning, or it's appliance in real life. A keys example would be they teach you the major scale, but they don't tell you what the fuck to do with it.

I'm going to use RB3 to get my toes wet and go from there.  If it takes a vidya context to teach me the basics and put me in an environment that is less tedious than doing the Pentatic a hundred times in a row then it is probably worth it.

Sorry, wasn't being sarcastic. Not everyone is expecting RB3 to teach them how to play a guitar. I expect RB and GH to teach me how to play air-guitar, but not to prep me for an actual band audition. There's only so far they can go before it just becomes educational software.

I don't know if you know or not, but that video shows a mode of the game called "Pro" mode where they "teach" you how to play the song on a real guitar that can be hooked up to the game. My problem comes in it not showing that that actual song is tapped and you're not learning anything by not knowing.

I don't have you on Ignore yet, darling. I will say that you're being pretty bullheaded in this thread, after your antics in SA forums' RB thread apparently got you suspended there.

You're always free to make your own choices, voice things however you want, but if it's eliciting a negative reaction in the conversation's other participants, you can choose to charge on ahead and damn the consequences, or you can reconsider your tone and approach from a different angle.

I'm aware of the "Pro" mode in Rock Band, and I've seen it referred to as practically (n.b. not "literally") teaching players how to play the song, and that the controller for it can also be used as a real guitar. I believe the goal is to bring it closer to the experience of actually playing the instrument, just as the drum kit is practically the same as a real drum kit.

None of that flies in the face of what I stated earlier: RB allows me to be in a pretend band. This new controller and the new mode will get me closer to that feeling, sure. I might even learn some, er, fingering positions from playing on Pro. But I don't expect it to turn me into a guitarist.

I misread your first post, but you're mistaken about Pro mode. It's goal is to LITERALLY teach you how to play guitar/keys/drums. You can take the tablature and play it on a real instrument and it is the exact same as the musician plays it. I love the game otherwise, besides some bone headed decisions, my only problem is that they're not telling you how to correctly play something in the mode that they bill as doing so.

The Rock Band Facebook page says today's "the last day to download and play" some downloadable songs by The Doors, but I can't tell if that means they're just trial versions a la Rock Band Network or if it's really free DLC.

The RB1 and LRB songs automatically transfer over on the PS3. On the 360 though you have to redownload that export key or something.

For the RB2 songs, you enter the code on the back of your RB2 manual (same one that was used for the 20 free songs a couple years ago) at www.rockband.com.

this is so confusing!

I wish they'd show the entire keyboard layout on the screen even if it wasn't all used.  Just understanding the placement is difficult.  I dropped down to medium and I can get through parts of sister christian by looking at the screen, then down to the spot.

and to think those kids that would play Just a Friend on the school piano had talent, or dexterity, or a memory, or something.

and bohemian rhapsody sucks for this game because I want to toss the keyboard and pick up a guitar at one point.
