I hate you all. You're going to make me cave in and purchase Pan's Labyrinth on Blu-ray.

Is this premised on Blu-Rays all costing $200 after the format war ends or something? PL cost me $20 on HD-DVD, je ne regrette rien

I don't want to buy Pan's Labyrinth. As much as I enjoyed it in the theatre, I will never watch it. Ever. I don't need to blow $25 on it.

Sadly, impulse wins out over logic with me on purchases.

Hey, I own Knocked Up on HD-DVD, I'm all about impulse purchases. But Pan's Labyrinth is one of those movies that stays with me. Every time someone mentions it, I want to see it again. It's not an easy watch of course.

Blu-ray could win high-def battle
HD DVD backers could switch sides soon
By DIANE GARRETT, BEN FRITZ
The two remaining studios backing HD DVD could switch sides soon, ending the high-def format war instantly.

Daily Variety has confirmed that Universal's commitment to backing HD DVD exclusively has ended. And Paramount has an escape clause in its HD DVD contract allowing it to release pics on Blu-ray after Warner Bros.' decision to back that format exclusively.

Neither studio is ready to throw in the towel immediately, however. Universal is committed to a series of promotions for the high-def format in coming months, and Par has said its current plans are to keep supporting HD DVD, which it backed exclusively in August.
