Advance Wars: Days Of Ruin (or Dark Conflict in europe)

This is the fourth game in the english released advance war games, and the second for DS.

If you havent played this series, god help you its awesome fun. Its a 2d turn based tactics game of sorts.
You are the Commanding Officer of an army, you choose units to build on a gridmap, and duke it out with other warring countries while capturing cites along the way to buy new units for your war.

Heres the gameplay in a nutshell
Quote
The objective in Days of Ruin is for the player to defeat the enemy army with their own army. Except in certain single player missions with special objectives, there are two ways to defeat an opponent: destroy all of the enemy's units or capture their headquarters. The battle system is turn-based. Two to four armies, each headed by a commanding officer (CO), take turns building and commanding units on grid-based maps. Every turn, units, which consist of ground, sea and air units, can move across the different types of terrain and attack enemy units or perform other actions, such as submerging a submarine or resupplying friendly units. Fog of War, a phenomenon that prevents players from seeing enemy units other than those in the visual range of their units, various weather conditions (which change the terrain effects of the entire map), CO powers, and many other factors affect each battle.

THE STORY

also shamelessly stolen from wikipedia:
Quote
The plot of Advance Wars: Days of Ruin is considerably darker than the previous games in the series, and is unrelated to the previous series installments in terms of the storyline. Almost 90% of mankind has been killed off following a devastating meteor strike which has destroyed much of civilization and caused a massive dust cloud to blot out the sun. Scattered survivors pick through the wreckage, and the remnants of several military superpowers patrol the ravaged landscape, some factions protecting the innocent while the others prey upon them.[10]

The two rival world superpowers, Rubinelle and Lazuria, continue to fight among the ruins of their countries, the few surviving military leaders of each side carrying on the conflict begun before the catastrophe. In their wake, various warlords rise to power, seizing scarce food rations from the defenseless survivors and attempting to assert their dominance in the absence of law and order. Early on, the Rubinelle COs Will, Brenner, and Lin embark on a mission to rescue as many of the survivors as possible, with the help of the mysterious Isabella, an amnesiac girl who seems to know vital military secrets, and various other sympathetic factions.

In a departure from the previous games, which included five factions, Days of Ruin will only feature four: Rubinelle (Red), Lazuria (Blue), Yellow, and Black. The conflict between Rubinelle and Lazuria will play a prominent role in the early campaign missions, with the Yellow and Black factions being introduced later on.

NEW UNITS AND PROPERTIES CHANGES

Quote
Unit prices have been readjusted and several units renamed, as well as new ones introduced. Units can now level up in battle, increasing their capabilities. Units increase their level once for each enemy unit that they destroy. The level of each unit is identified as I, II, or Ace, with Ace being the highest level. While units with higher levels are more powerful than new units, they can still be defeated. Unit experience is not persistent, and the player begins each mission with new units.

SIX NEW UNITS not seen in previous games:
    New Ground Units:
    • The Motorbike - a highly mobile motorcycle unit that can capture properties
    • The Flare, a new tank-like unit that can light up 13-square areas affected by the Fog of War + it has machine guns
    • The Anti-Tank, an indirect-fire unit that is strong against tanks and can also counter-attack direct attacks
    • The War Tank, the strongest ground unit in the game
    Two new planes:
    • The Duster, which can attack both ground and air units
    • And the Ship Plane, which is produced by Carriers and has the same attack properties as the Duster.

Quote
New properties have also been introduced, including temporary properties that can be constructed by the Mobile Workshop unit. These properties, such as the Temporary Port, can only be used as stationary resupply bases, but also provide some defensive cover for units. As their name implies, temporary properties last for only a short time on the battlefield before they are removed.

New Units Breakdown (price, fuel, range, et cetera)

Found here: http://www.advancewarsnet.com/?g=awdor&a=articles/awdor/Units.html

this is all confirmed info and is uncomplete atm

THE FACTIONS & CO'S

This time around the factions of Advance wars are different from previous titles, out with the old kiddy crap, in with the post apocalyptic-gothic lolitas.

Quote
The entire cast of the previous games has been replaced with new characters. CO powers have been toned down, and no longer have the ability to instantly change the course of a battle. Tag powers, which allowed players to move twice in one turn, have been removed, emphasizing that tactics will be much more essential. Players will gain CO powers much later in the campaign than before, and they will have a much less significant role in overall gameplay. COs can ride with a specific unit, and automatically promote that unit to Ace level. If that unit is destroyed, the CO returns to the HQ, where they can be redeployed with another unit. CO powers can only be used when the CO is with a unit, and affect the entire battlefield. For each battle that the CO-equipped unit experiences, the CO's power meter fills slightly. When the meter is full, the CO can activate his power, which has various effects on allied or enemy units, such as refueling allied units or reducing the range of enemy units. Similar to CO powers, CO effects also influence combat on the battlefield. As the CO power gauge is filled, your CO's area of influence, or CO zone, grows larger. These effects generally provide minor advantages such as firepower boosts to a CO's units; the difference between CO powers and effects is that CO effects are constant and only benefit units within the CO zone.

even yet more stolen info
Quote
Rubinelle

Will

Will (Ed in the European version) is the main protagonist of Days of Ruin. He is introduced at the beginning of the game as a young cadet from the Rubinelle Military Academy. During the catastrophic meteor strike that devastates the world in Days of Ruin, Will is trapped in the Academy's mess hall. He survives on meager rations while he digs a way out of the mess hall, and meets Rubinelle COs Brenner and Lin after they defeat a roving band of outlaws led by The Beast. Will joins Brenner in his mission to rescue as many of the survivors as possible, setting the stage for the Days of Ruin Campaign plot. His CO power increases his ground unit's mobility.

Brenner

The leader of the remnant of Rubinelle's army, Brenner (O'Brian in the European version, Brown in the Japanese version) only wants to rescue the survivors of the meteor strike, but the rival army of Lazuria and several rising warlords will force him to lead his troops into battle many times in the future ahead. His CO power heals all his units.

Lin

A 1st Lieutenant in the Rubinelle Army, Lin (Ling in the European version) is also Brenner's second-in-command. Her CO power extends her units' vision by 2 spaces.

Isabella

Isabella is a mysterious young woman rescued by Will early in the plot. She is afflicted with amnesia, but seems to somehow be aware of vital military secrets. Her CO power increases her ranged units' mobility and attack range.

Lazuria

Tasha

Tasha is a Lazurian commander who still retains some of the hatred for Rubinelle from before when the meteors hit, seeing them as them 'killers'.

Yellow Faction

Grayfield

Acquainted with Brenner, Grayfield is a cold commander not limited by ideologies.

Waylon

Waylon is a CO that eventually becomes an ally of Rubinelle. He is referred to as a 'flyboy'.

Black Faction

The Beast

Always referring to himself as "The Beast", this CO leads a small group of outlaws seeking to take advantage of the downfall of the two main world superpowers, Rubinelle and Lazuria. He is encountered as the enemy in one of the early missions of the game.

I haven't played an Advance War since the first GBA game. The promise of online, plus the new story and art has me drooling at this game though.

MAF, I suck at strategy games, I can't even beat Starcraft 1 without cheating.  :lol

ds only supports up to wep encryption, your router is probably using wpa instead which is far more secure

but to use a ds online you will have to temporarily change to wep or nothing

I suggest temporarily because wep encryption can be cracked in minutes and some douche could leech your internet connection  if they are close enough

No its easy and they all include tutorials.  I hear some people complaining about the game but these people are usually unintelligent lowlifes, and should be ignored.

These people usually have a thing for hairy men.

cracking wep?

Its easiest using linux+aircrack far as I know

heres a windows tutorial: http://www.tazforum.thetazzone.com/viewtopic.php?t=2069.

if you mean change your router settings, that depends on the brand. basically the manual should have an IP and you type that in a web browser to change settings, it will most likely require a password also in the manual

try http://192.168.2.1/ or something similiar

anyone know the Japan release date?

....my internet didn't come with google

wikipedia says To Be Announced, but you could import, DS games are region free

Hmm with all the changes they are making hopefully the series starts to have more of an emphasis on percise strategy and less "flood the map with units" levels.

In this new world, a different breed of Commanding Officer emerges. Gone are series mainstays Max, Nell, Andy, Grit, Drake - all of them lost in the apocalypse. Instead of falling back on battle-changing Super CO Powers, this new generation of Commanding Officer must rely on pure military strategy and guile to overcome rogue enemies who have nothing left to lose.

I didn't think this took place in the same continuity as the previous advance wars. It's kind of funny they just killed off all those characters.
