What the fuck man. I was going to keep this game in its case so it wouldn't use up 4 spaces in my portfolio thing. Now I've gotta stick it in there.

Oh well, I'd need a new one anyway if the year of PS3 results in me buying games for that console.

It's fun depending on who is running what.  If you get stuck in a mediocre store under a mediocre Store Manager under a mediocre District Manager... it will be awful retail shenanigans.

I believe once the game is open, you have seven days to return it for the same, exact game.  30 days to return for cash back if it's sealed.  GameStop is pretty good about handling defective discs.  I mean, we took back all the Halo 3 CE discs for folks.

OK.

I bought a DVD there once and the disc was bouncing around inside it, I asked for a new one (he had a whole box of them), and he refused. He said it'd be fine. I said what if I get home and it doesn't work? He said then come back. So I said if I come back in an hour you'll let me do it? And he said only if I went home in that time.

Also, what's the official policy on the preorder bonus for this game? Was I supposed to get it when I preordered? The guy who gave me the preorder didn't even know what platform the game was on, and I forgot about the bonus. Do I have a fight ahead of me to get it back tomorrow?

You're supposed to pick it up when you pick up your copy of Lost Odyssey, but Microsoft has been bad in regards to sending enough swag for all the reserve customers for their products.  If I don't have enough swag, I'll hold it for folks that asked about it and regulars, first.

Honestly, if a Store Manager is going to argue with you on noticeable disc defects and you have a non-informed staff, I'd be tempted to just shop at another location run by a competent crew.  That's kind of whacky.  You hear the horror stories, but it's kind of crazy considering the amount of energy that myself and several Store Managers I know put into their individual stores.

Well, the store I described was at a mall further away, not the place I'll be going tomorrow.

The nearby place, though, is the one that wouldn't sell me AW:DoR without a pre-order with two dozen games sitting on the shelves. It came out the day after like 4,000 students moved into the dorms. Why the fuck would I preorder when I spent the last 5 weeks miles away? Cunts.

What is bullshit is the fact that they won't do anything for you if they don't have a replacement in stock.  That's why I stopped going to gamestop.

Where are you guys shopping?  If the product is not in stock and nobody can refund the purchase with cash due to the return policy, at the very least you can put the whole amount on a gift card and find said item at another location.  Or let you use the store credit to buy what you want.

Why did he make a big deal about the long loading times and poor framerates?  All the FF games have such problems and they still get 9s.

If I have a good amount of reserve copies left late into the release day, I'll begin to sell from those copies to walk-in customers.  Every GameStop manager worth their grain of salt knows they're likely to receive another shipment based on first-day sales within 24 to 48 hours.  Turning away customers to Target is stupid.

Yup. They had a ton of copies, I went back the very next day and they still had almost all of them (like 4 had been removed) and some other dude sold it to me with no complaints.

If I didn't have to spend 20-25 minutes in traffic and pay to park to go to BestBuy/Target then I wouldn't go to this place at all.

Genghis Cohen... that really sucks.  I don't know why any staff would let customer complaints go farther than the store, unless you could honestly not help that person (like someone returning an open game two months later!).  The return policy empowers managers to stop those problems before the spiral out of control.  I like knowing that if someone wants to take any return issue higher than me, that they'll get the same answer from corporate.

Oh well, I guess that's why my region rocks in overall customer service and sales.  And why I'm consistently in the top 8% of GameStop stores nationwide. :punch

Is it normal for Capcom to send more then you ask for? When I got DMC4 everyone and their mother got the book. Even non preorders.

Yeah, we got like forty books.

Your link doesn't work, but I am guessing you linked to one of the trailers. The game looks like it has an incredible soundtrack, and I hope Uematsu's work is consistent in quality.

i dunno theres been some pretty good RPGs this decade, Blue Dragon was cool (graphically amazing) but didnt really grab me... I got to the 2nd disc and threw it on the pile. I'll get back to it one day (with achievement guide handy so I dont miss the missable ones  :maf)

jRpgs out this decade that are better than Blue Dragon:

ummm

uhhh

Digital Devil Saga
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Baten Kaitos
Baten Kaitos Origins
Valkyrie Profile 2
Mother 3
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Eternal Sonata
[close]

I do understand why you'd call Eternal Sonata a shitty game, I think its fucking awesome. The characters and VA are fantastic

Yep when Viola joins your party her 'Heal Arrow' technique is indispensible and you dont need to use it as much becuase it heals the whole party, Chopins got a 'Sacred Signature'  heal technique also. Enemies repeating is lame but I delat with it ok.... later on in the game there is a little more variety, and the bosses are always impressive.
Yeah the dungeons are poor (super linear) but I kinda dug that to an extent, I could sit back and cabbage out on the game, good to play while drunk. The pictures and music are really nice and theres quite a few interesting conversations. the overall plot/story arc never gets very complex at all and is more of 'a game of ideas' if that makes sense

I just really enjoy the sense of action in the battle scenes, the Sakuraba music combined with all the rapid-fire quips from the characters (esp. Chopins) makes an immensely satisfying combination IMO, (but I did love Baten Kaitos Origins for that same reason, and becuase that game is awesome too ;))

for the eternal sonata achievements, is there anything you need to do the first time to set up some stuff the second time, or is it just a case of rushing through it once, and then play properly on the second run?

Encore makes enemies like 2x stronger, so do the Mysterious Unison the first time through and make sure you have the first 23 or so Score Pieces (use a guide)

This game is abysmal, you will regret doing it
