I mean the "captured heroes" them was ripped right from FFX...even the circular suspend cage bit.

You mean they ripped that off from EVERY RPG EVER.  In what RPG do you NOT get captured at some point?

Story: BD
Combat: LO
Systems: LO
Graphics: Preference really, but it does kind of make BD that much more impressive being a year old game
Music: BD

I personally like LO's music better so far, but they are different types of scores...

That's pretty surprising that anyone would think BD has a better story.  From what I've read and heard, BD seems to have a really simple plot.

LO already has a much deeper, more mature story and presentation

again that opinion posted is just what some jsexualgaffags said, no need to actually believe it for a second

LO was pretty mature until the kids :(

but yeah the story is loads better then BD's. You will notice that duckroll and bebpo put 999 hype into the game. Those of us who had reasonable expections, and went in expecting, at the very least, a good jrpg, have been pleasantly surprised.

LO definitely has better music than Blue Dragon.  It's a bit more subtle though and therefore less catchy and "memorable" so if "memorability" is all you care about, you might like BD better

is the world always so linear? will it open up and become non linear later? i mean when i got the ship it seemed like the world would open up a bit, but it didn't. it's still quite linear because you can't get past certain areas in the world.

lulz, sakaguchi ripped off FF1

"i got the boat!!! wait why am i only confined to this small area?"

never played FF1 but the same shit goes down in FF3  :'(

i guess that no one took the ship after getting it and went to the north western coastal area to fight super duper strong monsters that kill you in one hit right?

also, only allowing 5 people in the party is super gay.  someone tell me this changes later on in the game.

I have to say I find the soundtrack an overall disappointment.  It does show signs both of Uematsu starting to crawl out of the slump he's been in for the past nine or so years and of this creative team (with the arrangers Satoshi Henmi and Hiroyuki Nakayama) starting to develop its own interesting mature style, but I really don't think it quite gets there.  Probably still the best from Uematsu since FF8 though, maybe Cry On will be a further improvement (if LO's poor sales haven't sunk the project)

The only reason I'd suggest that BD has a better soundtrack is because it is largely arranged better-- mostly because Uematsu sticks to simple piano melodies. There's definitely some quirky arranging going on in some of the main themes, but I really really love the battle music.

The fanfare is actually really dissonant, I'm surprised he was happy with it.

Started it yesterday, put about 3 hours into it so far... still not even out of Uhra, the first big town... read a few of the stories and they have been really good. Music has been good as well... looking to spend the rest of the day playing the game.

They'd better explain why Ming has no memory. Seth and Kaim lost it because of Gongora fucking with them, but what about Ming? Doesn't seem likely that Gongora would nail her with it too, especially since she has no real power anyway to be worth targeting.

Or is the idea that all immortals' memories are iffy? I dunno, that seems stupid. I guess I'll see if that's the case when I run into Sarah.

LOL, yeah I went there. If you even managed to hit the monsters, you can only do 1 point of damage, and they have like 900HP and do insane damage. I guess that's spot's for late game leveling.

i wonder if my guys are strong enough to take those monsters out there yet.  if so i'm gonna try to power level since you get mad points for levelling with higher monsters in this game until you hit the plateau level that they are on.

does that last sentence make sense?

I'm not that far in the game.  Just got to the second boss at Grand Staff (good name, pft) and I haven't tried to beat him yet cause I was horribly injured HP wise and I had only like 3 healing medicines to use...I gave a ton of them to whatever the fuck that thing was in that vase at that little outpost before Grand Staff.  I'll give it another shot tomorrow.

Cool game so far.  Awesome awesome short story shit.  Don't know if I dig the battle system as much as you guys are though.  It's slow compared to FFX, which is fucking blistering fast.

The boss in the mountains right at the beginning was a total bitch, I missed the anti-poison accessory you get from getting the guy's helmet down from the lift at the beginning, only found out about that after glancing at the guide... went back, leveled up the anti-poison ability and gained another level and whooped the boss's ass. The next boss was pretty easy though... so how is the challenge level? I hear the first few bosses are pain in the asses but the rest of the game is cake from JGAF?

The stories are really incredible, too... I love the sense of history you get from the game, although it would be nice if you could "play" those scenes... I've seen about 7/32 so far... maybe you'll visit the scenes in a potential LO2.

Yeah this game is fucking FANTASTIC, this might be my favorite 360 game if it continues (BD is my current favorite), I didn't pick up the phone when a potential g/f called just to play this game :P

While it's slower, it's much more strategic. Status effects actually MATTER in this game, which is a genre rarity. Even NORMAL enemies can take you on if you don't strategize, because you're mages > fighters in this game.

it is the real final fantasy xi.

-characters are really good (aside from the boring Ming and Sarah and Gongora)
-amazing dungeons
-great battles
-tons of balance and variety
-each new area has new enemies to fight and require you to switch it up
-unlike blue dragon and other jrpgs the game isn't full of pallete swaps. in fact, i'm on disc 3 now and I don't recall a pallete swap YET.
- decent story that shows promise
- 1000 years of dreams = awesome
- amazing music
- great graphics
