My gf loved it and she's no comic book junkie. It's the only movie she's looking forward to this summer.

Iron Man is an average cheesy comic film. It's not better than Batman Begins. It's not better than SM1 or SM2. It's a fun 7/10 flick, shitty dialogue included.

A fifth time, please.

Iron Man is a great comic film. Iti s better than Batman Begins. It is better than SM1 or SM2. It is a fun 9/10 flick, dialogue included.

Stunning argument both ways.

Batman peaked when he kicked all the people out of his house. after that it fell apart and got unfocused.  I liked Iron Man better.  It dragged a little at points, but I left very satisfied.

How did you guess? I give your retort a 9.32/10

I guess I can see this sentiment.  Iron Man as a whole was a bit better focused, I'll admit.  But I think everything in Begins prior to that moment was probably the best fucking origins story told in a comic movie, and that fact still makes it the best comic movie I've ever seen.

Spider-Man 2 was a well-made popcorn superhero movie, Iron Man is turning into the most over-hyped pile of shit sandwiches in 2008.

How can you say Iron Man was focused? Seriously, did you guys gloss over my previous post? THE ENTIRE ORIGIN STORY TO IRON MAN SUCKED BALLS. IT HAD A USELESS SIDEKICK THAT DIES, AND SETS UP FOR A VILLAIN WHO TURNS OUT ISN'T ACTUALLY THE VILLAIN.

On top of that, every theme in Iron Man clashed with each other. You have a sad attempt at Brit humor coming from Stark's Jeeves-Bot, cute humor coming from Stark's robot arm helpers, sarcasm from Stark himself, half-assed romance, an extremely half-assed villain. I mean, ffs.

Iron Man plays out like the second movie in a series. The first movie is supposed to establish direction, instead we get 10 minutes of useless origin story, a completely hollow villain, and about 5,000 different hints and nods at what might be in the sequel. It's like Favreau went "Okay Downey, just stand in front of the camera and ad-lib a ton of goofy shit, we're gonna spray you with a fire extinguisher, and then the rest is CGI and we can go home. You ready Bobby? ACTION!" and then they went into post.

I think the fact that Iron Man wasn't another origin-by-numbers is what makes it appeal to people

It's fun and it's breezy. It doesn't get bogged down in its own self-importance. It gives us a good character and just runs with it.

10 Minute origin story? The WHOLE thing was an origin story which should be the main complaint. A good part of it is made up of Stark coming up with the suit, developing the exoskeleton, testing it then finally actually using it (when we see Mark 3).

Everything may seem half ass but the movie is a set up for Iron Man 2. Why would you want to fully develop Starks love interest in this movie alone? Thats something that should be done over time (a la Spiderman).

The direction seemed clear to me too, Stark is going to use his company for the better of humankind and Amurrrrica. Its Iron Man!

And I agree with Patel. I think its the fact that it didn't take itself as serious as say Batman Begins that gets nerdlingers angry and yet its more enjoyable than other Movies like it.

All in all, its clear that this isn't a wholly a singular movie, its a movie setting up a series and a movie thats setting up something even bigger (The Avengers)

Of course.

I had fun watching the movie, pal, but I don't understand why people think it's a milestone in superhero movies. I can have fun watching even the shittiest movies. For the longest time, Total Recall was my favorite of movie of all time, and I had gone to see Fool's Gold in theaters, and I enjoyed it! I liked watching Iron Man, but that doesn't mean it was a great film. It was really, REALLY corny.

After the credits, yo. Sam L shows up to set up the sequel/spin-off.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Tony Stark gets home after his press conference, and his house is dark but you see Samuel L standing by the window and he's like "I am Iron Man, huh? You think you're the only superhero running around? You're stepping into a much larger world here." and Tony's like "Who are you?" and turns around and he's got the trademark eyepatch and he's like "I'm Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I'm here to talk to you about The Avengers Project."

Goddamnit, for the last time:

Iron Man was a fun movie, but that doesn't mean it was good by any definition. It was total drivel, but I enjoyed watching it, sure. It's just the kind of baseless love EB is jizzing all over the place for Iron Man is stupid and makes no sense, because I have to take shit from users here when I confess my love of a technically crappy film. But when EB does the same thing, as long as at least 5 people agree, I have to prepare to get filed in with all the other idiots aboard the TrollTrain.

Nobody is saying it's great or amazing.  Most of the reviews, especially with our established crowd, have given it numerical values like SEVEN-POINT-OH, which hardly qualifies as "jizzing".

I can't believe you think Iron Man even comes close to any of the Spider Man movies, let alone The Goddamn Batman "Christian Motherfucking Bale" Begins. Superman, okay, Spidey or Batman? Fuck no.
I personally think that Begins jerked around the fans too much by completely throwing out burton's style.  Nobody cares about the exposition or the fucking “origin” in a comic book movie.  the character is just a symbol so showing how he became a crime fighter could be interesting, but the way Nolan did it was way too full of exposition.  I'm simply a fan of the burton's style (the correct way) so I was let down by Begins.

The spiderman movies were just corny shit but I agree with you on superman's crappiness.

The Burton Batman movies fucking sucked. Michael Keaton was horrific, the costume sucked balls, and making the Joker the dude who killed Bruce's parents is the biggest heap of bullshit in the history of film. The only redeeming thing about Burton's two films was the score, done by the masterful Prince.

Slot me into the "good, but not great or especially memorable" camp. Its light and breezy and fun, but its so damn derivative. It goes everywhere you expect it to, and not in new or exciting ways. The direction is really poor, and the editing was rather shoddy too. The characters all feel so one dimensional, Stark included. And I am about the biggest RDJ fanboy you'll find, but I honestly dont think his performance was as charasmatic and engaging as its being made out to be. I felt his similar performance in KKBB was leagues better, and worth the price of admission for that film. Back to some final positives: the effects were great, there was some great humor, and RDJ's performance, while not the second coming as previously mentioned, is still the reason to see the movie. Ill see the sequel for sure, but its not something Ill be biting my nails in anticipation for.

Since this is the internet, and comparisons are what we do, Id slot this into the middle tier of superhero flicks. It shits all over the X3's, Punisher's, Fantastic Fours, and the Superman Returns' of the world, but I don't think it holds a candle to S-M2, BB, or even Sin City. For me, this is basically on the level of S-M1 and X2.

I think Keaton did a better job because he didn't try and change his voice as though he got a third testicle every time he slipped on the costume.  I understand that Bale was trying to make it look like his personality changes when he puts on latex but that's just throwing shit directly at the superhero's creators so I really got pissed off at it.  I didn't have a problem with either actor's acting besides that but Burton at least has a shred of originality in making a more fantasyish style and changing the story a little.  Making Joker a bad guy to bring out Batman's inner demons is actually pretty interesting.  I think that you just went into Nolan's movies with too much hype and are trying to thumb your nose at Burton's batmans because you watched it when you were 5.

Did you even read the fucking comics before you saw those movies? The Burton Batman movies took a fat shit all over the canon. Batman isn't some playboy that tells his secret identity to some bitch he feels like dicking that night, and making Joker the guy who kills Wayne's parents completely ruins the whole fucking point of why it was a simple crook.

Think of it this way, when you groaned after seeing the Spider-Man 3 trailer had spun it to where Sandman actually killed Ben, that's what I did when I saw that they made Joker the guy responsible for Batman existing. It's complete and utter shit.

Plus, I didn't watch Batman when I was 5 you fucking scrub, I watched all the Batman films for the first time (save for Batman and Robin, which I had seen as a child because of my obsession with Schwarzenegger at the time) a couple months before I went to see Begins.

Kill yourself.

you can not switch mediums (especially from comic book to film) without changing a shitload of the timeline.  I did watch the burton batmans when I was around 5, but I also read the comics at the same exact time.  I simply thought it was interesting how Burton made batman a vengeful guy.  you can't actually pull off a superhero storyline as well in a movie as in a comic book so the most I expected was that they would take gotham city and make a story loosely based on batman.  Burton made a very interesting movie.  If you didn't know anything about batman, you could be entertained by it.  That's why I think burton did a good job, because it was good as a movie and not because it followed the batman storyline written for a different medium.

But seriously, what the fuck was up with Bale's voice?

I'll agree that Bale laid it on a bit thick with the voice.

As far as Burton, you have to excuse my rampant hate, but at my school people don't shut the fuck up about amazing they think Tim Burton is, and it makes me want to kill myself. the Burton Batman movies are fine if you aren't into the comic books, but Batman isn't a camp fest like every other comic, which is why pretty much every Marvel fan I know admits that Batman is probably the only DC character they can bear, because he isn't a schoolboy. Batman never questions if what he's doing is right or wrong (at least not most times), he's stubborn as hell, he's basically a total bastard. Michael Keaton made Batman a quirky eccentric, rather than a brooding, morose fucker.

You can criticize Batman Begins up and down, it really doesn't matter, but when people tell me that Keaton was a better Batman than Bale, I facepalm so hard it causes a mini black hole. Every role Bale has ever gotten, he's a cold and brooding person, save for the insanity scenes in American Psycho, but even then he was still cold. Bale was made to play Bruce Wayne at some point in his career.

And I think you're wrong when you say that comic book movies have to change the timeline. Batman Begins kept alot of it faithful to canon, but twisted it, because instead of taking inspiration from one serial, Nolan took elements from many many different storylines and smashed them together. Batman and Returns just shat all over everything Batman had been in the comics, in the same way the Adam West TV show did. The Joker isn't some goofy fuck, he's fucking INSANE. Jack Nicholson is a great actor, but wasn't that great of a Joker.

Then again, I'm probably speaking for myself for most of this, because many Batman fans think the cartoon series did the comics justice. And while it maintained alot of the dark and moody tones the comics had, they were extremely tame and dumbed down for the kids way too much.

Bale is even cold and brooding when he's getting pounded in the ass by Ewan McGregor as a wild homo Iggy Pop.

Next gen Keanu Reeves.

AICN said Thor had a script so good that after writing up the review of how good the script was, that moriarty cut off his hands knowing that nothing he could ever write would even be worthy of working using the same concept of linguistics as such a fine piece of writing.

fixed to accurately reflect aicn hyperbole

I liked the first episode of Masters of Horror that Moriarity wrote.  It was the John Carpenter ep.
