just beat alexi or however you spell it, tough fight, he has some reallly annoying grab attakcs but I pwnd him with the claws

in the next level you get a sickle+chain, its awesome

You get much more than just that.

Level 5 just keeps getting better for me. Cool new enemies, great level layout with good looking fight locations, light adventure elements, excellent music.  I'm at a speed bump though with the 3rd Valor. Too intense for me to complete tonight.  :(

Find the rod first and most of the portals should be out in the open (at least in the Warrior mode they are).

I don't think I got one until the second stage. There's another one in the stage after that and the third is in level 5.

Adjusting the camera speed helped me somewhat, but I find using the quick center button helps out a lot more in battle. They really need to unglue the up and down movements of the camera control or add some sort of lock on button. After all the grief that was given to NG's camera system I can't believe they didn't attempt to fix it here. They just made it worse.

What the fuck. The boss on level 4 is OBLITERATING me. His attacks are hard to dodge, he's too fast, and he's fucking blind because he has no eyes but he always knows where I am. Fuck.
That guy was easy. Just go for the hands when they're on the ground and when he's stunned go for the legs. Use the YYY combo with the Dragon Sword on his feet to deal some good damage. Now the real fourth level boss...wow. That was a tough battle.

Really? I kicked his ass on my first try. Weird.

Really? I kicked his ass on my first try. Weird.

I don't know why I had such a hard time with him. Most of the time he would catch me with a quick grab move that would drain most of my health. Sometimes he would pull off a tornado move that was a little difficult to dodge. In the end I just went on the offensive and used up my herbs and grains.

I noticed that a lot of the bosses have some rare moves that they sometimes do. For example there was one moment in the 3rd boss battle where it shot an enormous blue face at me. It was a pretty cool looking effect that I only saw once in the many times that I fought him.

And oh my god... dogs with knives

Exploding knives none of the less.

is it possible to go back to earlier levels

I think you unlock a stage select at some point. It's kinda necessary considering how easy it is to miss items.

I've never really been without healing items. You can only hold 3 maximum now, as opposed to 9, but the game makes sure you've got some healing items on you at all times I've noticed. If not on the dead ninjas you pass by, but Muramasa's got some healing stuff for cheap.

Probably extremely cheesy... should be entertaining

Also, be sure to download the Gamerpic for that weekend as well... for their little "achieve & win" thingy

Considering how worthless the story is, it's not really a requirement, but I WOULD recommend.  NG1 really comes into its own as you proceed.  It's a really good game and well worth playing.  Just play through it first.  It's not as if NGII really looks any better than Sigma, so that next-gen allure should bother you.  :P

The portals are for the Path of Valor (basically like that bloody palace in the original... it's a big room and a ton of enemies spawn until you clear them all out)

There is no level select, NG tards ownzored

That's where you get the Rod of Valor, which lets you access the portals, the first one is in Chapter 3

You get an achievement for beating them, and a Life of Thousand Gods

Life of thousand gods on the first one, but the second one you just get at on of yellow orbs.  The Tests of Valor are also really boring.

You don't have to play through it to understand the "story" or anything like that.  There are no big differences in gameplay either.  NG2 is only really different because it is more straight forward with less non-fighting time and you can now cut peoples arms off, but they won't be dead yet.  After being the first 4 chapters on Warrior, I think that NG1 is a better game so far.  Be sure to at least play it before or after NG2.

This game is seriously loose with those achievements.  You get one for running on walls, but then you need to beat the entire game with the claws to get another one.

After upgrading my dragon sword, I am sitting here with tons of yellow orb worried that if I waste them on one of these other weapons, I wont be able to upgrade good weapons later on.

The dual swords are pretty slow, but I think they get bet with a larger move set.  The claws are also awesome.
