I'm on the 3rd Chapter right now and while I really like a lot of the changes made to the combat system the level design so far really took a hit for the worst. The two levels I've finished go on for far too long and you are constantly fighting the same groups of enemies over and over. No more is the tightly woven design of the first game or the pacing of enemies change ups. Maybe it will improve but at the moment I'm not feeling it. Even the 3rd Chapter doesn't seem much different in design than the last two. It's probably because all the stages so far take place during the night and all have a similar color scheme to them. The variety feels very thin right now.

Also the camera does seem worse than the first game. In the first game the only time I really had a problem with the camera was the first chapter. In this one I seem to be fighting it all the time, especially since the amount of enemies attacking you at once has increased and all of them are throwing projectiles at you. The camera angle is a bit too low from Ryu and they don't give you much freedom to change it with the right stick.

Already have Devil May Cry 4 and that game wasn't the shining example of perfection either. Ninja Gaiden 2's combat is far more more intricate than DMC4's, but DMC4's level design is way more appealling than what I've seen so far in NG2 (that is until you reach the halfway point and you start going backwards through the same stages and bosses). At the moment NG2 does seem to have more flaws than DMC4 did.

I'm stuck on the boss of the 3rd chapter.  :-\

Anyway, i don't know, personally, i think people are full of shit. Yeah there's some tough situations with the archers, and sometimes you have to consider the camera as part of the gameplay, but i've seen nothing so far that passes as broken, and not as challenge.

3rd chapters in, and i've had more fun with NG2 than i did with the whole of DMc4.

what are you talking about. The first two chapters of Ninja Gaiden you're mostly fighting the same people. In the first chapter, you're fighting ninjas in green or whatever. The second chapter, you really only fight Black Spider Clan ninjas, and the guys on horses halfway through the chapter. If anything, NG2's first two chapters are far more varied in terms of enemies; in the first chapter you fight black spider ninjas who use traditional ninja melee, and ninjas who use ninpo, AND archers. In the second chapter, you fight those guys, ninja dogs, AND the boss from the first chapter who comes with his own minions.

Further more, the level design is probably better in the first two chapters in NG2 than the first two in NG1. NG2's first chapter isn't mostly easy if you're an NG vet, but it has everything you really need in an NG level: little to no puzzle solving, occasional platforming, teaching the players the ropes of all the skills they've acquired thus far, and just plain being a good ol blood bath. The second chapter increases all of this ten fold, and is way harder than NG1's second chapter. The mid boss alone makes it better.

So basically, what the hell are you talking about?

At least I remember Ninja Gaiden 1 giving me more trouble than I am having with NG2.  After NG2 I might replay some of NG1 and see if I am now super great at it.

Man, this game is like pornographically violent.  Limbs flying everywhere, torsos getting cut in half.  Blood everywhere.

So far, I'm lovin' it.  While I'm still bummed about it being more linear, it plays that much faster that I really don't mind.  I dig the visuals, and the slowdown doesn't bug me (although if a key battle is burdened with slowdown, I could change my tune quickly).  I am kinda shocked that they somehow managed to make the camera even worse.  I wish I could set it so it would auto recenter on block.

So far, it's exactly what I wanted in a sequel!

I popped in NG: Black last night and breezed through 6 chapters like it was nothing. Before, when I played it years ago, I struggled a bit. But this can be quite hectic.

So basically, what the hell are you talking about?

It's more of an issue with how the game is paced and how dull the early environments are. in NG you fight about 7 enemy types and 2 very different bosses in the first two levels. Unlike NG2 those two levels last about 10 minutes a piece and then switches up the enemies again for the next stage.

in NG2 the first four levels are considerably longer but very drab and straightforward in design. In the first stage alone think I think I fought the same group of spider ninjas at least 20 times. Couple of hours later in stage four I'm still fighting those same ninjas again. Yes, the combat is amazing but I was starting to suffer from a bit of enemy fatigue. Even the first game knew when to put an enemy to rest or how to space them out.

Chapter Five however, that's the bloody sex I've been waiting for.

The cutscenes rock. The intro in level 3 was fucking amazing. RYU SHOOTS A FIEND WITH A ARROW THROUGH THE NECK, JUMPS ON ITS BACK, AND RIDES IT TO THE SURFACE USING THE ARROW AS A STEERING WHEEL, AND WHEN HE GETS TO THE GROUND HE JUST CHOPS ITS HEAD OFF

They pulled it off quite nicely.  Looks better than Sigma, though I've only played chapters 1 and 2, which are both very dark.  It's never a whole eyeful of polygon sex like TN's games last gen, but the subtle lighting, backgrounds, and things like that are all great.

DoA2 engine is invincible.

That guy was easy. Just go for the hands when they're on the ground and when he's stunned go for the legs. Use the YYY combo with the Dragon Sword on his feet to deal some good damage. Now the real fourth level boss...wow. That was a tough battle.
