Read on GAF that you have to play MGO for 20 hours before you can form a clan. Is that true?

i would say Assassin's Creed but knowing you AA and your hate for Ubi, i dare not to.

but seriously, it's not about picking one game, there are many, many games with better graphics than MGS4, uncharted, gears, cod4, AC, lost planet...etc.

and i am talking about graphics not fucking artstyle or fucking cutscenes (which MGS4 excels at both no doubt.)

blah blah blah "better graphics."  I try to look at it past the "16-bit videogame commercial" level, kid.  Art style has every thing to do with visual prowess, which is what technical graphics also fall under.  It's wholly subjective (and embarrassing when people quantify it.)

having played your choices maxed on my PC (besides Uncharted), I still stand by my choice.  I'd rather not get into a nerd battle about it.

My friend was going to purchase it and let me borrow his ps3 afterwards but he decided not to buy it. I'm seriously considering buying a ps3, but am having a hard time justifying it since I'm only interested in this and maybe 2 or 3 upcoming games. This sucks.

Hey, I've explained the Haze ordeal quite a few times. It'd take a stupid person to even attempt to use that "against me" at this point. This fucking argument though, you just don't fucking get it. It might be your necrophiliac leanings that causes this, I don't know. You are not only trying to tell someone that he's wrong in saying that he thinks the game is the best looking game of this generation, but you're actually trying to write the rules on judgment here. Artistic direction and value, what does that have to do with graphics quality, right? Especially when you're talking about subjective appreciation of visual presentation, yeah? The dude even mentioned it in his post.

Take a break, look it over. If your argument still seems reasonable to you, then by all means, keep puttering along in stupid bliss.

press start.

it'll pause them and the option to skip is actually in the pause menu.  the first time i saw the x and l1 pop up i was afraid to press them because i didn't want to skip.

30 mins into the game, MGS4 is pretty much what I expected.

Although the camera feels great compared to the original MGS3, stealth stills feels more like a chore.  I'll probably start Ramboing my way through the game pretty soon.

In terms of graphics, it's really stunning for a SD game.  But ROFLMAO at distinguished mentally-challenged Sfags that think MGS4 even comes close to the amazing technical achievements of UE3 and GOW.

4 hours in and i'm kind of bored.  I've been doing a combo of stealth and rambo, and while the sneaking is okay (but difficult), run-n-gun kinda sucks.  The camera moves way to slow, even with the sensitivity turned up.  And I REALLY wish there was a way to lock the game in first-person view.  Holding down L1 just feels even more janky now that you can walk around in FPV.

Oh and fuck me for thinking MGS3 had shown that Kojima had learned some lessons.  This game is chock full of overly long descriptions of objectives and gear, and SHUT UP with the talk about PMCs taking over the world.  How many times are they going to explain the same thing?  In spite of this, I think the game's still alright, but I'm just waiting for it to click.

Well I don't really play games anymore except whatever Harmonix puts out and MLB 08 (for the PSP...MLB 2k8 sucks dix on xbox, so the PS3 version of 08 was a huge draw), along with like Uncharted. Other than those, Sony has no intention of bringing my favorite PS2 series to the PS3 so :(.

I figured I should atleast wait until E3 and pay off the debt so :(.

I dunno yet Thanks for the help guys :)

The gameplay in the first few sections is weird.  Seems like you could just Rambo it completely, but then stealth is encouraged.  But why would you need stealth in the first place if the PMCs are just mindless soldiers?  Although it's extremely fun from a gameplay standpoint, it also seems a bit arbitrary to have to use stealth.

For everyone complaining about the overly long codecs, you can skip or fast foward the codec message. I find the Fast Foward function useful when Otacon is re explaining himself for the fith time within the same message.

Also, I was using the M4 alot at first but I've reverted to using the Silenced Tranq Gun. It feels way more fullfilling to take on things more stealthily.

I adjust the camera with the right analog thumb thingy. NO problems here with the camera.

As far as the 'Price of War' goes... in my mind, the more PMC you kill = higher price  whereas using the stun knife to eliminate a threat doesn't kill them.

It's pretty good.  It's really nice looking.  Maybe not the nicest from a fidelity level, but the detail is especially astounding, moreso in act 1 than in 2 (which is as far as I am now).

Gameplay is better than it's ever been, though it still has a janky feel to it.  The story, well, hasn't fared so well.  It feels like it goes between pure fanservice and MGS2-style incoherence.  I am sure the usual suspects will try to spin the story as being great, but it's really messier than it's ever been.

So far, so good, though.  Gotta say I appreciate the codec being downplayed.

10 HOURS TODAY WOOOOO

Just finished Act 2 and I'm liking it a bit more.  The areas in Act 1 felt much more cramped to me.  Everything in Act 2 seems larger.  Plus we finally get a boss fight and some cutscenes with action instead of jibber-jabber.  Also jesus christ at this part in Act 2:

And TVC is right, it feels like there's a story tucked inbetween segments that are meant to cover the previous games' plotholes/dangling threads.  Pretty lame.

Stop spinning TVC and tear this bitch apart, be a good xfag now.

I'm something of an MG fanboy.  Metal Gear was one of the first NES games I got as a tyke, and for the next decade I wished they'd make a sequel.

So far, I love the gameplay in this one, but the story is kinda ehhhh so far.  Keep in mind I'm not very far in but. . .

spoiler (click to show/hide)
So far having blast from the past appearances by Naomi and Meryl feels very fanservicey.  In both cases, there's really little to no reason why these specific characters had to come back, other than to give fan boners.  It just felt, I dunno, forced.  And the general "The Patriots are bad but Ocelot is AGAINST them but we have to kill Ocelot" storyline is so obvious.  No matter how many layers of good/bad/war rhetoric it's rapped on, it's still not as "deep" as it presents itself as.

I'm early enough in that I reserve full rights to do a 180 on my opinion of the storyline, btw.  For the record, I didn't like MGS3's, either.  This, however, is the first MGS game since the original that is legitimately fun to play, so far.  The first game was novel at the time, making it easy to see passed the clunky controls.  In this, for the first time we can throw stealth to the shitter and go ape shit Rambo effectively.

Keep in mind I'm not very far in but. . .

I'm a MGS taco as well and it's nice to see the gameplay is good.

story isn't a deal breaker for me.

Also, borys :punch :punch was right about the loading times as they're really not intrusive thus far and come at points where you want a break after what you've just witnessed.

Liquid Ocelot broke Naomi out of jail and forced her to do research in a lab in South Africa. I think it was mentioned in the message decoded by Sunny.

I'd like to know about the Sunny thing myself, though.

Basically a genius of a child that grew up on the internet hence her inability to cook properly let alone speak correctly. She seems most comfortable behind a keyboard. I think otacon is jealous of how smart she is.
