Also, borys :punch :punch was right about the loading times as they're really not intrusive thus far and come at points where you want a break after what you've just witnessed.

haha 'after what you've just witnessed'

jesus

Its a horrible way to phrase it but appropriate for fans! I'm such a cigarillo for this franchise despite my best efforts not to be.

I'm always right :pimp

Have any screenshots of you being right?  :-\

no one ever said they were intrusive in the game, they exist between game segments. I cry out against the fact that the same situation in any other game would have people shitting their poo poo pants. Im glad MGS fans are enjoying the new MGS game, but lets be real.

I believe its out in the open in the mission briefing before act 4. Possibly the act 1 briefing as well according to someone on GAF

hmm I think you can get a camera by using the mk2 during the briefing

it might be upstairs where sonny is or maybe behind the computer desk by otakons right

Cool beans.  Is there a trick to getting up the steps?  IIRC, I couldn't get the MkII to go up then.

wait, stealth in the shitter? RAMBO TIME? color me interested.

Drinky, there are so many fucking weapons and grenades and trap bombs in this game its ridiculous. It allows for so much strategy. The Octocamo allows you to go all out stealth or you can pull out the M4 and go, as stated, Rambo on everything.

I love how Kojima retained the camo system but made it adaptive. Remedied the whole "going into the menu screen to change your camo" dilema.

Also, I finished Act 1 yesterday and was going into Act 2 and I agree with TVC. I feel that the story is probably going to be a slow burner but I'm fully expecting the story to be nonsensical like MGS2. Why? We're dealing with The Patriots here and whats possibly going to be a plot about the nature of reality (speculation by me). We'll see what happens.

Oh and did you fug around with the ingame iPod, TVC? Fucken rocks, I would imagine that custom music could possibly be supported down the line.

I'm not even sure if it's possible to play the game in a fully stealth manner.  Like TVC said, the gameplay elements are still somewhat broken.

The stealth gameplay is highly dependent on which directions the enemies are looking but the camera just won't let you see that consistently.

But if you just want to be Rambo, then the new controls make it easier than ever to do so.  The FPS controls are a bit more sluggish than most FPSes but the enemies

move around slowly enough that it doesn't matter most of the time.  It's kinda like FPS for noobs.

I'd definitely give it a try.  All the story stuff is skipable and there are tons of weapon customizing which you'll probably enjoy.

Also, it's probably the best looking PS3 game yet, despite the SD resolution.

It's completely capable of being played in fully stealth mode.  I went through one of the bigger battles in full stealth because I was tired of all the alerts going Rambo style.  It just takes patience.

If your trying to go stealth, its important to stay crouched down or lieing down. Make use of any weapons with a silencer. The Tranq gun is perfect simply because if another guard stumbles on the sleeping guard, they'll just nudge them awake. If the same  guard came upon a "Dead" guard, well, they'll phone HQ and they'll go in Alert mode.

The beaut of this game is that there are so many different pathways to get to point A to point B. Make use of Night Vision even during the day, you 'll be able to see low air ducts that you can crawl through. I've even used tight alleyways (you have to press against a wall and go in sideways).

Make use of the Solid Eye too (more specifically, the radar). You can see your zone thats perceptable to the enemy. The higher your camo rating, the smaller that zone gets.

Like I said before, the biggest problem with the camera/radar is not being able to see where your enemies are looking.

That makes it really tedious to play stealthily in some areas.

That is true but I think it requires you to be more aware of your surroundings in conjunction with the radar. Theres a couple of times where I was lieing down prone, trying to see where the blips on the radar were. Its like a reference guide but not as specific as MGS2 radar. Though I can see how thats kind of funky considering how MGS2s radar could be considered more advanced since you can see where the enemy is looking :lol

like we said, just go slow.  when doing snakes little ground hump, you have to be REALLY fucking close to the enemy for them to see you and by then you can see where they are looking.  hell, use the binocular vision for the solid eye and you can see even further away.  it just seems like stealth isn't your cup of tea, so go Rambo.  But it's not broken.

I HAVE IT, I HAVE IT, I HAVE IT, I HAVE IT, I HAVE IT, I HAVE IT

So because of the strike the gamespot dudes were all like "Next week" i was all like "what? >:(" and i might not even get one because they would only have 40 units nation wide. Fuck that.

So i hear some dude talk to another dude yesterday night, and he's all like "Tomorrow, etc Mgs4 fnac", when i woke up this morning i thought i maybe wrong, i was so drunk last night and my head is hurting like shit, maybe i imagined it.

So i go to Fnac, and talk to this clerk, apparently it's coming in today, and they are going to be selling MGs4 collectors edition despite gamespot telling me they would be the only ones having it. So i'm all like "When it comes, put one aside, on the low low, you got me? Cmon", the dude was awesome, he was all like, fuck the pre orders.

Get home, dude is already calling, i get on the subway back to fnac, and here i am now, 99euros later (Well, 104, i had to pay 5$ for the pre order at gamestop), i'm here, typing this shit, instead of opening the damn box, what the fuck, smh.

Maybe i'll post pics later, European Edition.

One mo post.

Oh please, it was an announced 10, there's nothing credible about the ilk at Ign. Those dudes were so eager to just be able to post a 10/10 score for MGs4 that it looked like they were nerdgasming.

It got 10s at everything, i mean seriously? SERIOUSLY? Get the fuck out of here.

The PS3 channel has seemed a bit less "OMG 10"-happy than the other channels, but I guess they rated the previous games in the series pretty high too. Sort of typical of the network; if they like it, it's a 10 or at least close to it.

After Act I, so far I am kind of "meh" about it. For reference, MGS1 and 2 are amongst my favorite games ever (both would make a top 10 list for me), but I thought MGS3 was incredibly disappointing. The problem with MGS4 so far for me is that its frankly been a little boring - something that a MGS game should never be. The graphics are ace, it runs well enough, the production values are great (aside from Hayter's ever worsening Snake portrayels), and the gameplay/controls, while taking some getting used to, are quite good. So it nails all those areas. But after the first act, its the plot/story that is letting me down. The middle east isnt exactly the most enthralling locale, either.

NG2's 3+ second loading during fights IS obnoxious, but equally so is repetitive 2+ minute loading!

MGS1 and 2 are my favs as well, while 3 was a decent game, the camo and injury system was clunky and the pacing in the beginning parts was slow as balls.  Its finale was epic and some of the boss battles were the best in series.

This game has some sick visual presentation. The production values are sky high, the gameplay feels better than in MGO, maybe because it works better in a SP controlled situation i guess.

A question though. In trailers i saw Snake with a mask, and i'm at the statue part of the trailers, and i don't have a mask :(

I want a mask....

MGS blew me away when it came out. From the deom on, I was frothing for the game. I loved everything about it. It was perfect. The production values, and amount of story/dialogue, the characters, the bosses, the music...awesome.

MGS2 - Like everyone else, I was totally hyped. I didn't even mind the Raiden bait and switch that much. It had awesome gameplay, nice attention to detail (melting ice cubes!), and pretty graphics for the time, but the narrative was just bleck. lalilulelol.

For some reason, I didn't get 3 until about six months after it came out. I went in with low expectations, and once I got past the menu management, it was fantastic (especially the last few hours).

So far, 4 is exceeding expectations, but I've tried my best to keep them down. Seems to work better that way.

You'll find out soon enough (in Act 2) but one thing I've noticed, when Snake is holding his back, that means hes having back pains. Relieve this by using a compressor. That'll drop the stress level down :p

Mine is like a hair dryer, specially during cut scenes. I guess it's because it's in a semi closed space and MGS4 is really pushing the system. Seriously, this was going way beyond 360 absurd levels.

I'm gonna move the system. I'm sure that will do it.

What's going on?  Travelling?

Today -- Mariners game, then going out afterwards.
Saturday -- Building a patio during the day, then going to see Avenue Q in the evening.
Sunday -- Working on the patio in the morning, and then going out with my parents for Father's Day.
Monday -- I won't get home from work until 6pm, and then I'm working on the patio until I go to bed.
Tuesday -- See above
Wednesday -- See above
Thursday -- See above, but I also have minigolf at 7pm
Friday -- Going to Canada for the weekend with the wife.
Saturday -- See above
Sunday -- See above

So, it looks like the first day I'll be able to spend any real amount of time with MGS4 is Monday, June 23rd. AWESOME!

I had to pause the game cause I need to relax for a bit. I know I love to exaggerate, this is no exaggeration, the last few hours have been the most engaging, breathtaking, mindblowing hours of gaming I think I have ever experienced. I am not lying, I had goosebumps, I had shivers down my spine, I was almost shaking from the excitement. I almost wanted to cry from seeing how its all coming together. Act 3 has a cutscene well if you have seen it you know. The megaton bombs start to drop, everything about the whole series comes together at this one point and its perfect. I don't recall any game having this impact on me, its the feeling I get when I watch my favorite movie, or see a stellar season finale of one of my favorite shows. Its not just the story telling, the cinematic aspect comes together with the gameplay in a way that no game has ever achieved. This is what I expected from next gen.

With all my favorite games there comes a moment where you feel it, you get that sensation that you know its one of the best games you have ever played in your life. I had that moment just now. I experienced stuff in the middle of the game that makes the end of MGS3 seem tame. I cannot believe I still have more to go, I almost want to stop and analyze this game, break it down to examine its brilliance, but there is still more. Unbelievable.

Wow. I am finally not alone! My PS3 is louder than my relatively quiet 360 90% of the time. Which seems so odd to me, as people always complain about how loud their 360's are, and praise how quiet their PS3's are. My 360 maintains a constant level of noise, which isnt really intrusive. My PS3 boots up quiet as death, but without fail, after its on for 10 minutes or so, the fans (or whatever makes all the noise) start kicking in and it gets really noisy. Neither my 360 nor PS3 are in even remotely closed spaces, and I position both upright.

I'll post either elated joy or crumpled dreams later on on the weekend after I've had some time with it.

I can just imagine some neckbearded man in a Shinkawa artwork T-shirt typing that out with tender loving care, as he rests in his $300 chair with some speakers shoved into it.

The ending is kind of....
I dunno.
It's definitely a case of my expectation not exactly jiving with what the game maker came up with.

At the same time I'm completely satisfied by it. The final scene was very emotional and it worked.

I'm going to start a second run through, take my time, watch the cutscenes that are important more closely, and not kill as many people.

Something Parish said on the 1up Show today is kind of exactly how I feel. MGS3 is still my favorite MGS game, but the peaks in MGS4 are better than anything any MGS game have ever achieved. MGS4 would be just a small step below 3 and a few steps ahead of 1 and 2.

holy fuck you guys are all being huge bleeding cunts in this thread.

"take your sales faggotry elsewhere!"

"don't discuss the graphixs cocksucker!"

sorry but when someone makes a sweeping statement saying that a game is the best looking EVAR his ass should be expecting an argument and it shouldn't be allowed to go unchallenged.
