that's a pretty impressive trailer. Only thing I don't like was the song to go with it but that's just personal preference I guess. They nailed Manhattan, thank god

I liked the idea behind the master plan, just not the plan itself.  If that makes any sense.

I read the book for the third or fourth time couple weeks ago, and I still hate Ozymandias's plan.

trailer looks hot though. i hope the tagline on the posters is "who watches the watchmen"

if i didn't own Absolute Watchmen already, I'd have bought it just after seeing that.

I actually just went and bought it.  And 2 volumes of Essential Doctor Strange.

Where'd you buy it?

Also, the trailer was pretty awesome. I've read through about 1/4 - 1/3 of the book at B&N.

the only essential books i bought were Dazzler and the first two Daredevils

i should get the Tomb of Dracula ones and also i'd like some of the X-Men ones simply for filthy nostalgia purposes

I dig the Essential books.  They're cheap!  I was curious about the Tomb of Dracula ones.  I don't know the comic.  Any good?

i enjoy them but i have a tolerance for 70s horror comics.

check out the first volume and see if it's your cup of joe.

Pretty much. I think that the idea behind the plan is more pertinent than ever; though the plan itself is a bit goofy.

EXTREME SPOILERS

spoiler (click to show/hide)
9/11 gave us unfortunate real-world proof of the unfeasibility of Ozymandias' plan. Catastrophic, terrible events that "change everything" and bring the world together as one usually only last 6-9 months before everyone goes back to being petty, sniping, backstabbing, selfish, well, people. Ozymandias is an idealist, but it's realism that wins out in the real world. You can scare people onto the straight and narrow for a little while, but they always wander off.

Also I feel bad bringing up 9/11 in a serious manner re: Watchmen while always giving Nolan shit for it. :'(

But in a sense Ozymandias knows it's a silly\stupid scenario but thinks it's the best way forward and so does Dr Manhattan in the 'short term'.

The trailer was hot but I guess hearing some dialog would be a good thing.

yeah, but i loved the book excerpts, and i know they gotta cut some things, and i get the feeling all that stuff is gone

there were rumors at the time (i bought watchmen off the shelf when it first came out) that alan moore and dave gibbons were going to do a minutemen series, and another rumor that moore was actually going to write an entire Under the Hood book

i would have bought both those in a flat second

There's absolute LXG?  What is it, the first two volumes?

there are two seperate ones

the first volume is long out of print and now sells for $300 +

the second volume, which is the one i have, contains in one oversized hardcover all  the issues, all the extras from the floppies (like the short story the papercraft, the boardgames and such) and then the second book in the slip case is the script book, which is really why i purchased it.

I found mine on ebay for like $65 shipped

here's one for $60 plus $9 shipping

They've recolored it to bring it up to date with modern coloring standards.  It looks smoother, I guess is the best way to put it.  It's subtle and not overdone or anything like that.

Absolute LXG Vol 2.

the slip case art.

the books themselves

endpapers

The back endpapers are the hybrid animals from the cabin

the pages are the good glossy kind.  not the odd paper kind like in abso watchmen.

the script book is awesome because not only does it include pencils and roughs, but also, each page that the script is for is reprinted in soft gray tones underneath.  it's subtle, but it's a neat effect.

i have all three of them

DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED BY THE FIRST ONE

i was a bit upset because beyond the recoloring they didn't do much else with what they had.  the extras were skimpy, the intro was kind of lame and i was really glad i hadn't spent MSRP to get it.

the second volume, however, is totally fuck awesome reprinting the entire Sandman Month sept 1991 promo stuff including commissioned but unpublished posters, pictures of some of the merch they did like the death watch, the first t-shirt, the making of the first sandman statue (weird inclusion, but neat), it also reprints the ENTIRETY of the pin up book Visions of Dream which were comic artist interpretations of Dream and co and finally contains the script and roughs for chapter 2 of Seasons of the Mists.

volume three raises the ante even more

collects the never collected predecessors to the pin up comics, promo Endless art, more merch (endless pewter figures?  ren fest exclusives or something?), the cain and able book ends and the concept sketches for them, the follow up to Visions of Dream the Endless Gallery (another collection of pin ups), an entire section on The Little Endless by Jill Thompson, the script notes and roughs of issue 50; Ramadan, and P Craig Russel's statuary design and it reprints the end notes from the original trades.

I can't wait to see what's in store for the fourth and final volume of Absolute Sandman

This is present in the original book as well - there's some subplotting about the changes that Dr. Manhattan's intelligence and research has brought to the world - in addition to realtering the geopolitical atmosphere, he's given us 8-legged turkeys and almost unlimited energy through cheap cold fusion. All of Gibbons' artwork reflects this - cars have fuel cells but don't have mufflers, etc. I'd imagine this detail has just been given slightly more emphasis, but since it's in the original comic, I'm not offended.

much as i love the watchmen, i can't help but think about the interviews with moore i read years later where he sort of laments ever writing it, due to the morose overly grim shift in tone superhero comics took in the decade after watchmen and dark knight

that's not even out yet but i will probably break down and buy it because it's supposed to be out and out balls to the wall black dossier

and i am the only person i know who enjoyed black dossier for what it was, which was essentially just a world guide

but then as a kid i would buy obscure indie rpgs just to read about the worlds with no intention of ever playing the games.

but for recent works, there don't seem to be any

Recent work

Moore plotted the six issue mini-series Albion for the Wildstorm imprint of DC Comics. The series is written by his daughter Leah Moore and her husband John Reppion.

With Steve Moore he is writing The Moon and Serpent Bumper Book of Magic which is set to be published by Top Shelf at some point in 2010.[24]

It has also been recently announced that Avatar Press will be publishing a short graphic novel called Light of thy Countenance at the start of 2009 (which is based on a short story Moore wrote, originally published in 1995) and a horror comic series called Neonomicon.[25]

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Vol. III): Century [the third installment of Moore's Victorian-sleuthing comic, due out in April 2009] certainly stokes the imagination. Why make it span three different eras — 1910, 1968, and the present?

that's not even out yet but i will probably break down and buy it because it's supposed to be out and out balls to the wall black dossier

and i am the only person i know who enjoyed black dossier for what it was, which was essentially just a world guide

but then as a kid i would buy obscure indie rpgs just to read about the worlds with no intention of ever playing the games.

I dunno.  I think Black Dossier is more of a disappointment than it is a failure.  There was such a huge span of time between II and BD that expectations were pretty high.
