I really think the FF3 remake was a bit harder than this. I remember consistently being hit for 1/3 and 1/4 of my health. I have yet to grind so far and I haven't had any full party deaths yet. Then again, that might be because I heal to full after every battle though.  I'm only at Mt. Ordeals so far, so maybe it does get harder. It's definitely not a cakewalk though. Getting hit with Toad over and over and over and over and over and over again in the cave to the octo-whatever with Tellah was pretty annoying.

I am alright with the game being challenging, but some stuff is just cheap. When I first got Rydia she was a full 3 levels lower than Cecil and had very few hitpoints. Well, how about some grinding? That would be fine and fucking dandy but her defense and HP are so low that she dies if attacked more than once in a battle. I am fine with a little grinding and I even enjoyed the FF3 remake on DS, which required extensive grinding, but at least make it fucking possible. Stupid design imo.

Just keep battling until a boss or a situation where Cecil can ultrafuck the enemies.  Rydia will start to gain some levels.

That's what I did. But now I just got Edward and it's the same deal, except he is even comparatively lower than when I got Rydia. At least now there are 3 party members instead of just 2.

I've actually put a few enemies to sleep with his lullaby song, so he isn't completely useless. I just hate how the new characters that join your party are such a low level.

FF4 ds is entirely different. This game is fucking hard. There are enemies that will one hit kill you. Enemies petrify you RIGHT OUTSIDE OF BARON. At the Tower of Zot the difficulty really ramps up. On the original version, The Tower of Zot was easy as shit. Here, I fight Soldieresses that dish out 300-500 hp at my guys per hit, and I typically fight at least 3 of them at once. And those are just some of the random battles. There's a treasure chest with the Flame Sword in it, there's a fire dog in it, this fire dog casts a fire spell that can kill 3/4 party members except Cecil in one hit. There's another monster that's an ice variation of the same monster, it's not as powerful but just as deadly and it's NOT only included in a treasure chest, you fight it regularly here.

...

This is so awesome.

Go get Tellah at the cave. You'll have more backup, making leveling up Rydia easier and you can do it normally without having to grind.

Edward's NEVER useless. His success rate for putting enemies to sleep or confusing them is ridiculous, they hit all enemies, AND they don't cost mp.

Also, some bosses are so much easier with Life Song or whatever it is.

Edward rocks. Haters suck my hairy balls.

I don't see why not.  Both FIII DS and IVDS are pretty popular in Japan, and it's logical for them to.

I don't know if they'll do one for FFV though.  I'd like to see them do it.

it's definitely dated, but you can still have fun with it.  it uses the job system like FF3 and FFX-2, and has a fair amount of challenge.  everything outside of the battle system is pretty shit tho.

Is demi hating on FFIV DS because of the shitty 3D graphics? If so, that's understandable.

But if he's shitting on it because of the increased difficulty, which is AWESOME, then demi is a fagatron deluxe!

God damnit.  This game is ridiculously hard to the point I'm not even enjoying it anymore.  Every battle can wipe your party out and gil is hard as hell to come by....ugh.  Someone tell me there's some code that I can enter that'll set the difficulty level to "normal" instead of the otaku rpg god level it's currently at.

I'm with demi on this one.

ds 3d ain't bad.

What makes up for ds 3d, particularly with FFIV ds, is the quality of the animations. The animations, especially in the cutscenes, are really really good.

I just got to the cutscene where Anna dies. It was always one of my most favorite scenes in the entire game, but now that it's fully voiced and choreographed, it's even more emotional. I'm not sure whether to feel sorry for Edward or call him a pussy. One one hand, his mom and dad died, and his lover died. On the other, he gets owned by a little girl and Cecil bitchslaps him. Also, Tellah is pretty badass in this scene.

by the way,

Also, the word is that the US version has cut some of the cutscenes due to Square wanting to fit English/French/Spanish/etc on one cart to speed up international release, but not wanting to pay up for increasing the size of the cart.

Was this ever confirmed/denied? Would be a tragedy if true.

The random battle difficulty is a bit off, but the boss battles are not too tough if you go in with the right strategy. I'm surprised at how things I thought impossible work when you use a cocktail of buffs and debuffs and time things well.

Still, they should've given us a difficulty option.  I just want to play the game normally and not at some fucktard crazy hard setting.  I don't have the patience anymore for this kind of shit.

Good God, I hate the enemies that can singlehandedly wipe out your party in one hit. I just came to the enemy that King Baron turns into and he wiped out 3 of my party members before I could even select an action. I know some of you like difficult games, and I personally don't have a problem with them, but any game that requires you to die in order to develop a decent strategy is bad design, imo.

I have just confirmed how shitty the difficulty in this game is. I spent the last hour grinding my party up 3-5 levels to face that fucker Cagnazzo again. Not only that, but I make sure to cast Protect and Shell in the first 2 turns with Porom. The same bullshit happens again the first time I faced him. He spams tsunami and wipes out my entire party. It wouldn't be as bad if he had a cool down for that, but fuck no, he can cast it back to back almost immediately.

How can you guys go ZOMG over EO2 and then shit on this? Espeically with EO2's useless classes and fucked up bugs.

I'm enjoying it so far. The 3D doesn't always work and I definitely miss the sprites, but one thing: The camera work in the scripted cinemas is pretty great. It feels very cinematic instead of the Kevin Smith-esque "Point the camera at the people who are talking and wait" school of direction. There are some pretty dynamic sequences.

It is fucking hard as hell. I barely have the $$ for Eyedrops and every fucking enemy in that first cave blinds Cecil in like .5 nanoseconds. F that. Also, Blind is upped to like 100% miss.

I think it's the 2D art in EO2. Very classic. It just brings the love back. FF4 is just a big rape scene. The ruin of a classic. The end of an era. You don't want to get involved with that.

Classic? It's DS 3D with Animu under-age LOLI party members. The only classic thing is the gameplay.

I'm so psyched for the DQ remakes I can't believe it. Especially for DQ5, but I never got to play DQ4.
